  1. Depends on what you want out of life. OG/CC or Airline Pilot

You will quickly (2 yrs or so) be an IP in the C-21, and quickly log IP hours. If you find it quicker to make IP in your current MWS, then I would stay.

Airlines care about IP hours, the AF cares about MWS IP hours.

    Your call.

  2. 1. Would I trade a $100K civilian job for the experiences, bro's, etc that I have the opportunity to encounter?

    ABSOLUTELY

    2. Would I leave my $100K military pilot job for a $40K civilian job TODAY?

    ABSOLUETLY

    3. Would I join the AF as a non-pilot?

    ABSOLUTELY NOT

Bottom line, guys in our line of work are not after the money -- we want a quality of life and job satisfaction. As those things fade (as evident in the 2000+ posts mentioned above), guys will leave and seek greener pastures. Most of us have been in this game for 15+ years and have the Balad Hard Rock cafe t-shirts already.

  3. Hey, I'm not apologizing for him. What I'm saying is that I've seen horrible Commanders and I've seen really good Commanders... Cox was a great Commander. If you can meet anyone who worked for or with him that disagrees I'd be shocked. As jacked up as this whole deal has been there have been plenty of folks on here defending Welsh (rightfully so)... Cox is cut from the same cloth. I'll trash the current managers wearing Stars as much as the next guy, but I'm willing to say from personal experience that Cox is a real leader and I wish we had more like him.

Posted from the NEW Baseops.net App!

So your saying that you like cocks?

  4. The Air Force has not budgeted for officer TERA or VSP in 2015, suggesting the service does not expect to offer these programs again next year to officers."

That's a poor suggestion. I'm sure it means that they want to clarify/finish FY14. I'll speculate that the programs will continue to be open for the next 3-4 years, but the AF will manage their numbers more efficiently than what has gone on here.

  5. I'd do both. GI Bill for the kids (huge benefit beyond just the tuition) AND a separate college fund for the kids. Will it be around in 15 years? No way to know for sure, but I'm willing to bet it will be, at least for those of us that have already earned it.

Agree, there is no legal way that I can see that if you have served your 4 yr ADSC that it can be pulled.....

Judge Wapner would have a field day.

  6. I would recommend that you simply point them to the bantering on this forum (specifically the "What's Wrong with the AF" and the "2014 Force Management" as well as a few TC publishings.) From what I am taking away from my peers -- most CC's now days are staff conformist.I think the writing is already on the wall....we have senior leaders that some of our officers have little to no faith in giving leadership advice to pending OG/CC's. I think it's great perspective and I would love to be a fly on the wall.

I would focus on the following:

    1. People - obvioulsy our most prized interest. Take care of them, from the bottom to the top, and they will take care of you. Be vested in their concerns before you vest in your own. Understand that not everyone cares to be an O-6.

    2. Process - what are we doing that can be done smarter. This reminds me of the flightsuit post that Tony made. No need to spell out the obvious.

    3. Product - what is the end result? If your goal as an OG is to make an "excellent" on the UCI, then go fuck off. The end product should be tailored to the vision of the CSAF and that of the taxpayers.

  7. Guys,

    Here is my $.02.....

    1. Do NOT use the GI Bill to get your ATP -- unless you ABSOLUTELY have to. Try to save it for the family if you can eat the 4 yr ADSC.

    2. For the entire training program, examiner fee, etc -- if you are quoted ANYTHING over $1800, then you are getting a raw deal. (see my previous post about using the guy in Memphis where I did the entire program for under $1500.). Throw in plane tickets and a hotel you are most likely still going to be under any program cost out there. see #4.

    3. In fact, the way the GI Bill works is you fork over the money first, then you get reimbursed.

    4. if you use the GI Bill, you MUST have a Class I flying physical (ranges around $125). If you don't use the VA, then your current 1042 will work.

    5. The post 9-11 GI Bill will cover 100% of an ATP as long as it is part 141 certified (structured). if you go over the cap, then you pay that portion out of pocket.

Once you read that, then try this:

** Make sure you click the middle drop down menu to "Flight" -- then go from there.

For example, this pulled up for Downtown Aviation in Memphis:

Address: Institution Name: DOWNTOWN AVIATION Abbreviated Name: DA Street: 2787 North Second Street City: Memphis State: TN Zip Code: 38127 Country: USA Phone: (901)353-9151 Web Address: List of Officials: Official Name Official Title Malcolm Jay King Certifying Official for Programs Mark Emmert Certifying Official for Programs Morris Ray Certifying Official for Programs

This here is for Higher Power:

Institution Name: HIGHER POWER AVIATION INC FLT Abbreviated Name: Street: 4001 AIRPORT FREEWAY STE 200 City: BEDFORD State: TX Zip Code: 76021 Country: USA Phone: (817)445-7000 Web Address: List of Officials: Official Name Official Title CAROLYN M ARMSTRONG Certifying Official for Programs JOE S POORE Certifying Official for Programs MARK A STERNS Certifying Official for Programs WAYNE SPARKS Certifying Official for Programs
  8. I agree, but that goes both ways.

That's not what he's getting at, per se. He eluded to airmanship and situational awareness, both of which are attributes in the CAF and MAF world - but needed more quickly in the more demanding CAF world.

The time and effort it would take to go from MAF to CAF isn't worth the risk of failure. Likewise, take a CAF guy and in minimal time in any MAF airframe you can get him spun up with very little risk of failure.

You cannot take a C-17 EP and train him in 1 year how to effectively employ a Mudhen. Likewise, I could take Hacker and he could *easily* be an IP in the C-17 within a year.

  9. Why anyone would pay nearly $3000 for that "experience" is beyond words. This is about the 10th person telling me that AA at KGTR does business this way.

I understand the "need" to get it down, but geez -there are much better options out there folks both in price and in quality of program!
