  1. MAFFS Hercs were initially used during the Deepwater Horizon mess to spray dispersant.

That was MASS (Modular Aerial Spray System) not MAFFS (Modular Airborne Firefighting System). Different system & mission flown by different units.

Target altitude for MAFFS is 150' AGL. This allows the retardant to stop forward travel prior to impact while minimizing drift and spread.

  2. I can guarantee you that any man that sees a bare tit is going to be sexually aroused.

    Really? What about these?

    Sorry

  3. It's memorial day and there are guys and gals in uniform flying around the country receiving well deserved praise on their flights

Well deserved on Memorial Day? I don't get it - were they dead? People seem to be confusing Memorial Day with Veterans' Day.

  4. In my squadron I expect every single person on flight status who shows up to be prepared to fly. We wear flight suits every day, inlcuding Mondays. I may require you on a moment's notice to go out to the flightline because it's your J.O.B. You better be dressed appropriately, and no I will not wait for you to go to the locker room and change.

  5. So, it's really a false argument to say that because she may have been a terrible pilot, she was unfit to be a commander or candidate for Congress, as is her claim that a great pilot translates to a great leader.

    I disagree.

    1. If you fly single seat fighters and you are "a terrible pilot", I believe that does indeed make you unfit to be a commander (at least of that type fighter squadron). Being a decent leader, and being a decent leader in a particular position/culture are not necessarily synonymous. This culture historically requires credibility in the jet to lead with credibility as the CC. I can think of no examples of dudes (or chicks) who suck at flying yet are great squadron commanders. Bottom line - it matters.

    2. I don't doubt you can be "a terrible pilot" and be a good congressional leader. I bet almost all (with a very few notable exceptions) of the great congressional leaders in history suck at flying. The difference in this case is she is using the idea that she didn't suck at flying as a campaign issue. In that case, fight's on and all the critiques are legit arguing points.

  6. but it is still not legal

Where'd some of you get the idea it's illegal for the government to offer more when someone pays more for something? Are you a socialist or something? I pay the US Postal service more to deliver my package overnite. I pay extra to have my passport processed faster when I realize it is about to expire before my "business" trip to Thailand.

Most people would be pissed if they made a luxury car lane on the highway, but they paid more for it, so they should get special treatment, right?

    You mean like this...

  7. Here's what you're missing - these folks are were hired and trained (some of them pretty extensively - SMSgt on the guitar) by tax payers to do a military job not play in a band. I don't care if the song is the best in the history of the world or the message is so amazing it makes me cum in my pants, it's still a waste of resources intended (and appropriated) for a different purpose. There are plenty of civilian bands who can and do create great music (to inlcude great military support messages), and it's the commercial artists who should be doing it -- not the military.

  8. Again, this was not politicians. This was ANGB bullshit.

I'm not sure you can actually seperate NGB from politicians. The working reality is that pretty much 100% of the O-6 and above bubbas at NGB are political lobbyists. Although not tied as closely to state political leadership, AFRC units have political advocates that also will have say (e.g., Niagara and Hillary last time around).

I'll believe it when I see it.

Me too, but I believe I'll see it. I think Llyod's point is that this is likely not the final list. Emotion and sense of justice aside, I think he's probably correct. If this list were left intact it would likely be the first time that BRAC type decisions sailed through without political influence resulting in changes.

  9. It CAN go away. The people on this board are mainly composed of the future leadership of the USAF.

While I agree this board consists of mainly [potential] future leaders, I can confirm this particular thread has been seen by some current leaders at a pretty high level. Word gets out. Keep hope alive.

  10. This used to be SOP back in the day. When I was a tyke my dad's (F-4 pilot) first command was a maintenance squadron. They used to like having ops cycle in. Currently it's not completely uncommon in the ANG. I know a couple pilot MXG/CCs. These were basically dudes who got promoted to O-6 but the ops side was plugged up. When I was in AFSOC long ago we did some down-sizing, and a coupe navs went to mx. I think it's a good option if you're looking to not fly.

  11. He's fvckin with ya. Most people find a replacement unit or (check this out) you're released from your commitment.

SOP for my unit. If a dude wants to walk I never say a thing. It's not that common, but it's usually mutually beneficial. They usually fall into a category of 1) too many civilian job commitments 2) wife's a bitch 3) balls are too small and they get scared. Regardless of the category, why would I want to force a guy to do what he doesn't want to and a 100 guys out there who would cut off an arm to take his place? If you think it's wasting millions of tax payer money consider the cost of putting the iron into the ground because you've lost your will to stay aloft.

  12. Am I reading her bio right? She has NEVER been a commander. I didn't know there were career fields out there where you could make O-6 (not to mention 4 star) having never been a CC of any kind. Wow. I wonder if her first command will be a MAJCOM. Good for her I guess - I'm just surprised it's an option.
