Uhhhh I would not describe the ROK as pacifist. Having worked closely with them I think there were more times we had to pull them off then fence than the other way around.
Also, this is not neccessarily a good thing. It's certainly better than full on hostilities but if you've seen the discussion on what would happen if nK internally collapsed you would know the global security crises it's likely to generate is going to be massive.

A NK collapse would be a complete clusterfuck for multiple reasons (mass refugee/humanitarian crisis, high potential of loose/missing WMD, high potential for rapid Chinese involvement with uncertain end states, possibility of long term guerrilla warfare in very challenging terrain). There’s also a sizable subset of the ROK that doesn’t want to reunification due to the huge impact/drag that the reconstruction of NK would cause on the ROK economy (think East and West Germany). Let alone this occurring in the middle of COVID-19, with the possible spread on a malnourished, vulnerable population with a basically non-functional healthcare system. We would probably spend years unfucking a situation like this and probably have little to show for it.
If it’s true, I’m glad that fat bastard is dead, but I hope whoever replaces him manages to hold the place together.

I'm not normally one for government getting into the private sector... but if we're basically admitting our acquisition strategy is "dump money into the giant hole until it's full", maybe we should just buy Boeing Defense and run it ourselves. Could it be worse?
Would you describe AFNET or VPN as unbridled success stories?....

All,
Just a general info note, but with so many people out of work due to the COVID situation, food banks are getting overwhelmed by the vast increase in unemployed people needing food. Most of the regulars on here (including me) are pretty lucky to have stable government employment/paychecks. Great way to help out your local community is donating to your local food bank if you’re able.

My longtime friend and neighbor is a vice cop for a medium sized city. Yesterday, his Chief told him to stop taking vacation days, and simply not come to work. He doesn't want any of his guys pursuing those types of crimes then showing up at the station to do the admin processes.
So long as you keep that purchase of Hos under 10 it’s party time!! Unlike the quote/guidance from Full Metal Jacket, don’t bang the ones that cough.

Betting average Texans are better armed and better shots than average Californians.
But this brings up an interesting not quite so philosophical question as it once was:
If the military is activated to quell domestic disturbance(s), will it? Would you if still in uniform and/or a Guardsman under state orders?
Setting up field hospitals, running logistics and the like, sure.
Knocking on doors for 'trespassers' or ultimately firing on fellow Americans who don't take much to having their Constitutional rights infringed upon for very long?
Define 'lawful' order under those circumstances.
And to those coming to Texas, welcome! But why, oh why would you then start voting to make it exactly like where you fled from? Where you gonna go when you f it up here?
History doesn’t give much reason for optimism. Trail of Tears, NY Draft Riots, Wounded Knee (understand that many would consider this one a battle in a war), forcible Bonus Army dispersement, Japanese Internment in WW2, Kent State shooting etc. probably some I can’t think of off the top of my head.
FWIW, I think it’s pretty sad that, unlike the national unity following 9-11, there’s undercurrents of resentment towards some of the states that are currently hardest hit by this pandemic. My wife’s a nurse dealing with this shit, nobody in her clinic asks what state a patient claims residency in when they come in coughing their lungs out, they just treat them.
I’m truly hoping that we as a country come out of this stronger and maybe in the short term a little more unified. Every time I think that I’m also reminded of a prior Sq/CC I had who’d always say “hope is not a tactic”.

What? No, you scared of someone else having fun at work? We're trying to do a heritage bar as well...also not fliers. Do you have a problem with our bar?
I don't know where you sit inside this Sq the chief's in...assistant to the Flt CC or something else...but if you think he's that bad, man up and say it. I'm sure it can only come to good results and he'll thank you kindly for the heads up.
You guys all know that this LaneHBO guy is the previous HarleyQuinn/Shazaam/2Ex guy again right? He just changed his name again, same bizarre posts.

Yeah pretty sure it’s him (previous Shazam too). He’s over in the Promotion thread posting his awesome strats and wondering why he didn’t get picked up for O-5. Any over/under on how long it takes before he goes full retard again and gets banned?

I think the thing that's most shocking about this is the collective "meh" that's coming from the breaking of this story. It doesn't seem like anyone in government, military, civilian etc really cares. We'll just keep spending money and lives in a war that we know is unwinnable because we can't bring ourselves to admit that we've lost.

I'm not in the hiring business and have no idea what the airlines might want to know. I had numerous events (worse week was a T-38 engine fire, rapid decompression, and major electrical failure over three days) and didn't list any since nothing required an investigation. They made good topics for a lot of interview questions, however.
I would guess if you were personally listed as the cause of the event due to neglect, error, etc., you might want to mention it. The person I mentioned was directly responsible for the incident, actually multiple incidents, through his actions showing wanton disregard for rules and the safe operation of his aircraft. Very blatant and hard to overlook or justify by any measure by any rational aviator.
Thanks much, response was helpful. Knock on wood, so far I haven’t had my name on any investigations so hopefully I can keep that up these last 4 years.

Holy thread resurrection...but I UTFSF to find something applicable.
I've got an assignment as an ROTC instructor at Indiana University. Curious if other folks have done similar gigs. My biggest questions are about how to do the admin stuff when I'm not stationed at a base. I figure I'll have to make the 3-hour drive to Wright-Patt once a year for a flight physical. Just curious if anyone knows how stuff like finance inprocessing works, who is the servicing TMO office for the move, where do my flight records go while I'm not stationed at a base...
Once I have university approval for the assignment, I'll contact the Det/CC directly. Just hoping some folks here have done the GSU thing before and have some insight.
I just got done with a staff gig where I was GSU. There should be an MOA with the closest AF base for stuff like maintaining your flight records, flight physical, PCS actions, TMO, etc. Whatever your closest AF base is should pay for your yearly TDY for your flight physical (I’d highly advise you take advantage of this versus trying to have civilian docs piece one together, there’s a good chance something will get fucked up). Your dental can be done local by a dentist that accepts Tricare, there’s a single form you fill out and then send to your base dental. Hope this helps, PM me with any other questions.

I know of a guy who made himself persona non grata at his Reserve unit and got hired by a major airline. Most assumed he failed to "List any accident/incident you have been involved in" on his application and someone dropped a dime on him. Sure enough, he had failed to list an incident..or two.. and was shown the door. So, be a douche nozzle and piss people off might be one way to not get hired.
Curious about this, do they have a definition of an “incident”? I’ve had enough emergencies in the Talon that I’ve lost count. Do they want you to list battle damage under this? I have every intention of being open kimono on my apps but I don’t want to unintentionally leave something out and then get called on it. Appreciate any info you have.

At least our great ally Saudi Arabia, whose military prowess has been key to stopping ISIS, rapidly defeating the Houthis, and directly confronting Iranian aggression, will be well protected.....

Ironically, they figured that out the hard way. C-17? Add power to flare. F-18? Hit the 3-wire with AB ready. Neither habit pattern translates well to managing the tight constraints of landing the MD. I've been told that FedEx has since gone away from those two backgrounds for the MD. But yeah, they were recruiting those specifically for a period. The KC-10 bubbas are obviously the best background for it.
That's not a knock on 17/18 dudes either. As an IP in a couple different heavy military aircraft, I'm very familiar with negative transfer myself. I've murdered a lot of penguins trying to break habit patterns and just be normal in a new airplane. Takes me a few reps before I can get it down...I'm no Chuck Yeager.
Honestly curious, what makes the MD-11/KC-10 so finicky to land?

This is kinda how Red Storm Rising kicked off. Maybe we’ll get that movie after all!
Except the Saudi’s have consistently shown themselves to be one of the most incompetent fighting forces in the history of warfare (billions of dollars in some of the best US military hardware hasn’t doesn’t mean anything when you’re unwilling to maintain it or learn how to employ it effectively). They’re not gonna go after Iran on their own, they’re barely holding their own against the Houthis.
I’d highly encourage anyone interested in what’s unfolding in the Gulf right now to read Andrew Bacevich’s America’s War for the Greater Middle East. It’s a fairly depressing read; there’s a lot of historical parallels going on right now (understanding that it’s not direct ie history doesn’t repeat itself but it does rhyme).

Thanks for the help. Cheers. 🤙

Cost of owning a plane
in General Discussion
Anyone on this forum have any personal experience with ownership of a Piper Cherokee or Archer? Am giving serious thought to buying my 1st airplane next spring, am kinda partial to Pipers and was curious if anyone had any good/bad/general info?
