  1. they didn't show it to us officially which is sad - in fact - we got guidance from multiple instructors that we weren't aloud to watch any movies at all when we asked to show it. I just put it up on my computer in the flight room when they were gone. 🤙 We had so much freaking down time here.
  2. Not "latest movie" but definitely a greatest: Just made my flight watch 12 O'clock High as a part of mandatory fun before graduation at OTS and they really enjoyed it. Had to keep the tradition going. Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me, til I come marching home!
  3. At TFOT now and we graduate Oct 17. A few have begun to drop UPT dates in my class this is what I have so far: 6 T-1 track dudes have gotten dates between June and August of next year. 3 T-38 track dudes have been getting dates in February and March.
  4. @Yeeyee yes. In the guard you can go back to your civilian job between OTS and UPT... if you have one. I got laid off due to covid before TFOT so I will need to find a new gig, especially if the gap is going to be longer than 3 months. I might try to find a way to go to SERE school before UPT if the gap is long enough. edit for buffoonery
  5. Been a while - anyone have a current gauge on Guard/fighter track timelines from graduation of TFOT to start of UPT? Some of the Guard/Heavy track dude's I've talked to recently are saying their gaps between graduation of TFOT and start of UPT are close to 7 months.
  6. The end of the fiscal year for the military is September 30th. I would expect that most units have hired for the year and will receive more slots at the beginning of the new fiscal year after October 1st and then schedule their boards when it's convenient to them.
  7. I find it hard to believe that the units who are receiving 150-200 applications have had 150-200 visitors in preparation of the board. The unit that hired me didn't look at apps under PCSM of 80 and STRONGLY recommended a visit. So that has to eliminate a huge chunk right off the bat. Then remove all those apps over an 80 PCSM for folks who didn't visit unless they have some sort of crazy life experience and had a 4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering at MIT (or something) or are prior service. There was only 1 or 2 guys on my board who interviewed out of 20 that didn't visit prior to the board and one of them was a prior enlisted that worked at Edward's in flight test in some capacity. Pair all of that with the fact that probably 6% to 9% of the apps are folks who love the idea of becoming a military pilot and haven't even started the process or don't have a degree or have no life experience. Go visit. Make connections. Fix your short comings. It took me 3 years to get hired by the unit of my dreams. I visited 4 times over 2 years and they were located across the county for me. I spent thousands of dollars of dollars i DIDNT have so i could know the pilots at my unit. I changed my life to make this happen - if you want it bad enough you can too. The ones who don't get hired are the ones who quit - and if they quit applying for a slot they probably would have probably quit UPT too. Cheers guys and best of luck! I hope this helps.
  8. Thank you! @InTheBreak I decided the best option is to move on and use it as a huge learning experience. Right now I'm focusing on doing well in OTS and getting my dates. My unit has been super helpful and I'm thankful that they've got my back.
  9. @SocialD @Guardian I didn't know about this and will look into it further. Thank you!
  10. I was hired w the Guard in March of '19. No dates yet. I haven't done anything yet other than attend Guard weekends and I spent that official time on duty making corn for the guys which I've found to be critical to the mission. You're right though@rancormac - there really isn't anything to work with and it would be a waste of time if I pursued anything against the company. I didn't know how USERRA really worked at the time of the OP and wrote it in the immediate aftermath of getting let go - was rattled this has happened to me twice. Their loss. I will without a doubt be making a run at full time when I get back to my unit - if they'll have me! In the meantime - I am going to crush the PT test now that I'm running/working out for 6 hours a day. Thank you for the advice and insight. Been on this forum for 6 years and appreciate all who contribute!
  11. Thanks @Desk Jobs Suck and @Erthwerm. I'm just going to move on (again) and going to see if I can somehow get put on orders with my unit. I'll also look at some other civilian opportunities in the meantime. If I thought I would be getting in to a TFOT class within the next 6 months I'd just coast from here but at this point who knows. Cheers and thanks for the advice! mighty
  12. I rec'd a pilot slot in March of '19 and since then I have gone through a civilian job change while waiting for training dates (I still don't have any). The reason I left my first employer was because they were not supportive and made my life hell when I told them I was going to join the Guard. I didn't fight it - and moved on to a different company. I was up front to my new employer about my military commitment as well - they were supportive - and I was hired in September '19. I stood out over my peers on the company performance measures and worked more hours then the rest of my colleagues - but the decision was made yesterday that I would be included in their company releases due to COVID-19. What has bothered me is that newer colleagues with less experience and lower performance were kept over me. I was told performance was not a factor and I even offered to take a pay cut in order to stay with the company. They could not give me any reason other than "COVID-19" as to why I was chosen over my other colleagues who were all lower performers. I have a top performance record with the company, and I have evidence to show that. I never cut corners, followed the rules, never was disciplined. I pride myself on good hard work. I've been up front about all of my military commitments - and I think that's the reason I was chosen to be released. I hate being 'that guy' - but this is the second time I've gotten screwed with my civilian employer because of my pilot slot. I am so pumped to get to training but in the meantime while I continue to wait - I'm 27 and like many others have student loans, a car payment, and flight training loans that I need to pay off. In these tough times I am curious if I have a case here to reach out to USERRA. If my ego is getting the best of me here let me have it. If I need to get over it and I'm acting like a millennial then fine. I really don't have any experience with this and just wondering if it's normal to be treated like sh*t when you're in the Guard and have a civilian employer. Best, mighty
  13. I would assume that also includes TFOT dates as well? My packet is up at NGB.
  14. Can confirm it will be prior-service only. I believe the board is next month.
  15. We are submitting forms to the Guard Bureau this week for training dates. Anyone have a recent timeline for Guard Bureau to TFOT and TFOT to UPT? Any suggestions for speeding up the process given where I am? Guard/Fighter - Non-Prior Hired: March '19 MEPS/Enlistment: June '19 FC1: October '19 (Failed) FC1 Re-Test: December '19 (Passed) FC1 Stamped Approved: December '19 FC1 Received by Unit: January '19 TFOT: UPT: SERE:
  16. It took me two years, 16 fighter boards (applied to some twice, one of them three times), and quite a few visits to get hired. A couple of things from my personal experience: Make friends with the other applicants you meet I only got interviews from places I had visited at least twice I never got an interview from a place I didn't visit When I was tight on money I skipped the hotel and did a same day round trip to visit the unit, especially if the unit only did a "during the day meet and greet." Another option is the good ole' 20$/night air bnb's you can find almost anywhere. In Fresno - my 20$ airbnb was a bedroom next to their kids room in the ghetto - it was weird - but I had a place to sleep. I had about the same scores as you for AFOQT but you had a better GPA than me (2.6 in Marketing) I can't say if you will get hired or not - but I can tell you the ones who don't get hired are the ones who quit.
  17. Cleared hot! I got a re-test and passed my FC1 yesterday without a waiver and without glasses. I wouldnt have had the opportunity to do this again without the help and advice of folks on this forum, the docs at Wright Pat, and the flight docs at the 104th FW, 143rd AW, and 56th MDG. My situation was a little strange, but if anyone has any questions or runs into this issue please DM me and reach out!
  18. A bud just got his dates: FC1 done in Sept/Oct Package sent to NGB in October OCS date he got yesterday is for June
  19. So heres the deal: I didnt pass my FC1 today. The docs in Dayton worked with me as much as they could. Gave me glasses. Kept me 3 extra days. Tried to get me a waiver. But I couldnt pass the damn tests. I've been doing the magic eye tests and I can do them fine. My problem is stereopsis at a distance. I've been at this now for four years and I'm definitely not going to stop - if anyone has some advice or tips other than what's been shared on this forum already it would be awesome. Cheers, -mm
  20. I just went through Day 1 of my FC1 and failed DP Line A with the terrible circles. I couldnt believe it when she said it because I went through MEPs no problem - all the way through the chart. I went slow and took my time and I've never had issues with this. I've heard that there are additional tests they will do - but what do those other tests involve? Trying to get ahead of this for tomorrow. -mm
