  1. One more: what the f*ck is a SURF? -2Lt
  2. Those of us that were in that class with Maj Knowlan were basically ordered not to talk about the circumstances of the accident, so I doubt you'll hear anything about the boat until the accident investigation report is released (as quietly and late as the press release of his death was). All I can say is that it's a f*cking tragedy. I knew him very little -- only from those 3 days of training -- but he was an awesome dude. His wife and two sons were with him in Pensacola. There is an obituary here which gives info about the Memorial Fund: http://www.semissour...ry/1904453.html
  3. Does anyone have any info about the F-22 pipeline? What to expect at lead-in, length of B-course, culture, syllabus, advice?
  4. ENJJPT 12-08 AD studs, from a very intoxicated memory: 1xT-38 1xB-52 3xMC-12 1xC-17 1xF-15E 1xA-10 1xF-22 (me!) 2xF-16
  5. In the Track Assignments thread, someone mentioned the rumor that F-22s have the lowest retention rate in the AF. Does anyone actually know if this is true or not? If so, why would dudes be wanting to get out of the 22? I don't buy that everyone is afraid of hypoxia. Is it a quality of life thing?
  6. Affirm on the F-22. It was the first plane dropped. Also my count was 3xF16 and 4xF15E. There were 16 assignables with 11 flighters, plus 2xMC-12, 2xFaip and the ac-130. No matter the numbers, kick-ass drop for sure.
  7. This thread seems to suggest all U-28s are at Hurlburt, but I've heard just from word of mouth that either that is no longer true, or shortly will not be true. Can anyone clarify this situation for me? Specifically, I'm wondering where the studs dropping U-28s out of UPT are ending up.
  8. FWIW, I have learned more flying with that Captain than from any other IP. He's the best in the squadron as far as I'm concerned. I had no idea he was in the CGOC, so I guess he keeps a pretty low profile in the local "chapter" or whatever they call it.
  9. I worked as a professional engineer for several years. I saw emails and powerpoints come across my desk all the time from guys who were qualified to build the world's most advanced space systems that -- except for the technical jargon -- were written at around a 6th or 7th grade level.
  10. Is there any precedent for flyers taking Naltrexone? AFI 148-123 gets no hits.
  11. "I tell you what, I am holding back a lot of nature right now. There's a lot of nature outside this truck and there's a lot of nature inside me. ... wait, why do I not have 3G?!"
  12. I read this whole f*ing thread again to see what the new conversation was. Fail.
  13. Has MFS fully moved to Wright-Patt or are they still doing it at Brooks?
  14. I'm at OTS right now and just got my assignment rip. It's showing MFS at Brooks on Apr 20th. Anyone know how I should interpret this? Will I actually be going to TX for MFS or is this an error that will actually be Wright-Patt?
  15. Anyone got any more recent info about the base housing situation for AF UPT types? Just got my orders to Whiting and have mixed emotions about it. I'm curious what the living situation will be like.
  16. I'm at OTS right now and trying to start getting my ENJJPT package together. I haven't received any specific guidance on what forms/materials I need to put my package together, and I haven't gone to the OTS meeting that gets called for those interested in ENJJPT. But my Flt/CC has instructed me to start getting stuff together. Can anyone offer any guidance or point me to a location where I can find application materials, or info about the memo I need to write? If you were an ENJJPT select from OTS, I'd really appreciate a PM too.
  17. I have retained hardware (titanium plate and screws) in my wrist, 4-5 yo injury, and completed my FC1, but not MFS at Brooks. Not sure if that's what you're talking about here. But as for your question, I went back to my old surgeon and got copies of all the x-rays, surgery notes, and notes from follow-up visits. I did not speak to my old surgeon or get a letter or anything like that. Now, did this stuff help? I kind of doubt it. It seemed to me that they barely looked at it all, and ordered their own X-rays anyway. But if I were you I'd get all the records you can. It can't hurt and it can help, and it shouldn't be that hard, so why wouldn't you? A rec from the doc on an old surgery like that is IMO less useful.
  18. I get the same errors, with very high frequency. (Including when I tried to post this) It is not the same line number every time, and it doesn't depend on which forum I try to enter. If I keep clicking or wait long enough, eventually I can get past it. So it seems to be random somehow.
  19. You're totally misreading these news reports. The guys were freed without charge because there was nothing to charge them with! They didn't commit any crimes. It's not illegal to fly with duct tape and cell phones, and you can't just slap together a case for conspiracy off that flimsy evidence. That does not imply that these guys were not up to no good. OBVIOUSLY there is some shady sh!t going on here. I can't even fantasize in my mind how far my head would have to be up my a$$ to think that a couple guys flying with cell phones taped to plastic bottles and changing their flights at the last second to get their luggage diverted is some sort of "coincidence."
  20. THIS. WTF. That was one of my favorite threads ever.
  21. I was reading all the old stuff in this thread. Is it still the case that the AF pays you for being fluent in a foreign language, even if you don't use it for any reason? You just have to pass some proficiency test? I'm reasonably fluent in Spanish; if I'm going to get paid $100/mo for that... that's awesome.
  22. It's really strange, because I'm not really connected to the military community yet. But a guy that was supposed to play poker with me canceled last night because he had just learned one of his best friends from HS was killed in a downed helicopter in Afghanistan. I remembered this thread and came back to look to see if it was the same incident. It is. 1st Lt. Joel C. Gentz, 25, of Grass Lake, Mich. Thoughts and prayers be with the families.
  23. Two years and therapy for premeditated attempted murder?? This trial had to have been in France.
  24. Ok, first of all, I seriously searched for "dog" and looked at EVERY thread that came up. So I don't know how the hell I didn't find this one. During OTS the dog will stay at my parents' large house in Texas where he/she will have a black lab and a shepherd/collie mix to keep him company, and my highly competent parents to care for him. Now, as for casual and UPT. I was under the impression that one could always opt to live off-base. I would choose some place with a yard and retain the services of a dog-sitter or local kid in the summer to take him out and walk him mid-day. If this assumption is wrong, and there is a period of time in which I am mandated to live in dorms (besides OTS), I perhaps need to recalculate. However, that kind of doesn't make sense to me. This thread has lots of examples of people that have multiple pets and seem to deal with it OK. Also, what happens if I show up at UPT with a dog? They tell me get rid of it, or you can't fly? I know the military does not operate along the rules of reason or empathy, but even by military standards that sounds fairly improbable. There must be a solution for a single person with a pet at UPT. Finally, it has been my experience that a girlfriend is considerably more expense and effort than a dog, and on top of that nearly impossible to crate-train.
