  1. Seems like a trend.. buddy of mine was passed over last year (for O5) and AFPC said it was likely because he didn't have any FGO awards. Interesting world we live in.
  2. Yea, 10% rule is strong with that one. Why did the dude not call his Sq/CC immediately to get the Wg/CC to call AU directly and hash it out.. If the wing king already signed the waiver, they felt strongly about sending the guy so would certainly make a case for him to stay. But hey, it's a facebook post and here I am expecting logic and rational thinking to apply.... silly me.
  3. Hopefully you'll find some solace making twice as much on the outside doing the same thing.. well, except not working as hard :D (RPA buddy of mine got passed over for O5, is out now, couldn't be happier, and makes substantially more than his O4 pay)
  4. I've noticed this. Tony's articles (are sometimes) written at a higher reading level with some complex ideas. I've read other articles that honestly sound like a poorly educated airman just bitching about the AF with no discernible point, supporting ideas, etc. Harvard Law after retirement.. His FB profile says Amazon manager (or something similar) which seems like an odd move post-Harvard law. It may or may not be accurate. I don't particularly care to talk to him, otherwise I'd just ask what he's up to.
  5. This is what I don't get with him.. He was my sq/cc and a fairly balanced guy in person. For being Harvard-educated and a previous (successful) leader in the military, I'm surprised how closed minded he is to new information. I've occasionally talked to people "in the know" on various bits he's written who have said they contacted him privately to say he was railing on the wrong guy/girl/office, but he wasn't interested in changing his tone or narrative.
  6. Probably because the pay bump for 14 year guys will be less than a typical yearly bump in pay due to inflation, and likely no better for the 6 year level. I mean, I'll take it, but $160 bump is a fancy dinner somewhere.
  7. Truth.. Last time I was at Altus a few years ago my EP kept checking his phone during full stops. I finally asked him about it and he was waiting to hear if his VSP was approved. Apparently they had 15 or 20 guys apply in the 58th. The AF lost some true talent from that pool of IPs.
  8. I always valued the medical, but going on two weeks of specialized inpatient care with my 3yr old after a terrible accident has put it in a different perspective.. it is one aspect of mil retirement that is pushing me to stay in.
  9. 1:30 to 3:00 One of these people speaking get it, the other does not. Goldfein's stance of "I know what's good for you" is absolutely infuriating. As a senior major and having been a (real) flight CC in charge of 60 people, I can absolutely say I never want to lead a group again. It was good, I enjoyed it, learned a lot from the E2-E8s under me, and respect the career field i led greatly, but all I want to do is what I said I wanted 13 years ago when I signed up, to be a damned pilot. F you dude.
  10. As an 04 guy, that blows. Curious if it's budget or manpower related.
  11. Jebus man.. as an 11M (no patch) in a shit staff job, that's not good to hear.
  12. Can someone point me to the actual list? I feel like a dumbazz.. it's not front page on my.af.mil (why aren't officer promotions ever posted there, yet E's always are?) and I can't seem to find it on mypers.
  13. Anyone taking bets on whether Goldfein will address his pilot corps on the what/why before he goes to the airlines and makes a deal with the devil?
  14. http://federalnewsradio.com/air-force/2017/03/air-force-meeting-airlines-pilot-shortage-may/ Or as Michael Scott would say, "Now this situation is a what I like to call a Win-Win-Lose", where the airlines win, the air force wins, and our pilots lose. Because eff them. But Grosso isn't going to say that, of course. Funny.. I just left a squadron whose commander was adamant that the Air Force's goal is to produce leaders, not pilots. On a local we discussed the topic at length, and he told me "If you want to just fly, great.. get out and go join the guard or reserves. The Air Force wants leaders, not technicians." Trying to provide evidence to the contrary was a losing position, we found very quickly. It would seem that AF leadership is now giving a different message and being forced to acknowledge that not all of us will be, or want to be, leaders. As someone who went to UPT late and is more or less stuck in till 20, I am curious and scared to see how this unfolds.
