  1. Make them tell you no (like the guy above me said, they will tell you why). Only thing I would recommend is to retake that AFOQT. You can get the pilot score in the 90's if you study hard, and that will bring your PCSM up. In the meantime keep applying to every unit you can. Good luck!

  2. Personal opinion: If your 201+ column is in the high 80's and above, and everything else is solid, you should be good to go. I wouldn't retake with a 96 PCSM in the 201+ column quite yet. Keep visiting and applying, and ask for feedback. If the feedback is consistently "your PCSM is too low"... then consider retaking the TBAS.

I think it's fun seeing guys from the forums here having success in getting interviews/slots. There have been plenty of boards so far, so I'd imagine there should be some.

I got hired by a fighter unit recently--my dream for as long as I can remember. I visited the unit prior to applying and showed genuine interest in the unit, the area, the current pilots' histories and end goals, etc. I was social, but drank without making an ass out of myself. I'm a happy dude, so drinking and hanging out with people who are very accomplished at something I've cared about being successful at my entire life was awesome. I didn't kiss ass, and I wasn't a dick to the other guys interviewing/rushing. As far as the interview goes, I'm pretty sure I gave some good answers because I got some laughs and some nods, but I think it all came down to showing them who you are and what your approach to getting through pilot training is. They want your answer, so don't try to be someone you're not or someone you think they want. Use good judgment, STFU, and all that stuff you've heard before.

Getting the phone call was awesome! Getting hired is by far the greatest accomplishment of my life. I'm incredibly honored that a bunch of awesome guys got together and said "Yeah, we like this guy enough to include him in our inner circle. We think he comes from good stock, we think he can go the distance, and he just fits in with who/what we are." With all that said, I'm still blown away that I have the opportunity to pursue my dream job, but now I've switched my focus to kicking ass during training and getting through the pipeline as quickly as possible so I can be useful to my unit.

Anyway, sorry for the long read, but I hope it gives you guys/gals something to look forward to. Stay positive, and feel free to PM me so we don't further derail the thread.

I retook it at the beginning of this month and my score was available the next day. They've also updated my score within 1 or 2 days every time I've submitted flight hour updates. The PCSM office is really fast.

I've always wondered: Is it exactly identical to the "projected" score you see when you pull your PCSM result?

Does anyone know if, as a civilian who has just been scheduled for an FC1, I am eligible to only do the MFS portion if I have a recent IFS? I had the full IFS done at Tyndall a few weeks ago, not eager for another day of achingly dilated eyes and stress.

I know the answer may well be "shut up and color," but I figured I'd ask.

Get your paperwork from the IFS. It should say something like "only MFS required" or something like that if I remember correctly.

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2017/05/17/deportations-under-president-trump-undocumented-immigrants/101786264/

    Highlights:
    -Arrests up 38%
-Arrests of those with immigration violations tripled (a couple months under Trump compared against a couple months under Obama, possibly taken to look Trump look better)
-"Under Obama, undocumented immigrants had to be a gang member, convicted of a felony, or convicted of several misdemeanors to be deemed a deportation priority"... Trump actually calls crossing the border illegally what it is... A crime. No more "noncriminal" illegal border crossers (exactly as stupid as it sounds)
-"Under Obama, ICE agents who were conducting raids or seeking specific individuals could generally not arrest other undocumented immigrants they encountered along the way." Again, Trump doesn't care about Obama's PC fine print.
-Deportations are 12% less than Obamas, primarily because illegal border crossings (easy and fast deportations) have dropped 67%

I think Mueller is a great pick, but I disagree with the premise. A witch hunt against the political outsider is supposed to restore my faith in the government institutions? I have no doubt that if they could do it over, the party Republicans would reinstate the super delegates' ability to vote against their state (maybe throw in some coin flips) and rig the primaries like the Dems did so it could be Bush vs. Clinton, the ultimate showdown of the politically entitled.

Just pointing out the irony in accusing Trump of outing Israel, while simultaneously being the first source I personally noticed mentioning Israel... The leaks to undermine Trump on this one seem more damaging than the information itself.

And no, I don't think the NYT deserves retribution.

It's truly a sight to behold - any poster that writes anything but blind trust in and allegiance to Trump is immediately and permanently banned.

Nah, I'm not interested in a far-right internet gang. Look at @Sean_Spicier on Twitter, though... What's funnier than the parody tweets are the people that think it's actually Sean Spicer.

I guess I still don't understand, but whatever. It kind of seems like people just find things on the internet to make them believe that whatever side they are on is right.

Here's the Wall Street Journal saying that Trump revealed classified information received from Israel:

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/intelligence-trump-shared-with-russia-was-from-israel-officials-say-1494960259

So if you're a Trump supporter, either this is him playing 4D chess, or "fake news." If you're not a Trump supporter, this is yet another example of him being irresponsible and you still want him impeached. If a person hasn't changed his mind by this point, nothing will. I think Trump could murder a child on TV, and his polling numbers wouldn't change.

I think the opposite is true as well. Trump could end world hunger or cure cancer and he'd be blamed with destroying healthcare and agriculture jobs (not technically wrong, but you see the bias). Highly polarized news... Same shit, different day.

I think WSJ is a pretty good source in most cases. I'm still not sure if I see an issue, though. All of the news articles now seem to hint at Trump warning Russia about ISIS technology that could harm those fighting them. Russia is fighting ISIS, so are we. Did Israel hear of a terror plot involving Russia? Would you not be OK with us sharing that information with them? I'm OK with something like that, but chances are that we'll never know the details and it will continue to be polarized speculation. Just more of the same "grumble, grumble, Russia." McMaster seems to be defending Trump on this one, and so far he hasn't given me a reason to doubt him... so... I'll defend Trump on this one too for now.

  11. 1 hour ago, Jaded said:

What sources do you guys believe? Which do you consider "fake news"?

"Fake news" was a term coined by Facebook for what, I think, was their attempt to provide an explanation/excuse as to why Clinton lost "bigly" even though polls showed her with double digit margins over Trump. Personally, I only use it ironically, usually to dismiss views I don't agree with.

What sources do I believe? I guess I "believe" most of them, even though most news nowadays is just the same regurgitated crap that is more speculative opinion than actual information... So I definitely don't arrive at the same conclusion as the author does due to his/her obvious bias. For example, when Comey was fired, McCabe said he believed the FBI had all the information they needed to finish the probe into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump Campaign, and that the investigation would be unaffected by the firing since Comey played more of a supervisory role in the investigation. MSM's version: McCabe "vows" not to let Comey firing deter the FBI's investigation of collusion between Russia and the Trump Campaign. Leading the reader to believe that Trump fired Comey, the "lead investigator" (actual quote from the media), to "cover-up" (again, actual words used by media sources) the investigation... And now Trump might wage a war on McCabe and the rest of the FBI if it weren't for the fact that McCabe's righteous beacon of justice can't be dimmed by the communist dictator Trump and his brutal, tyrannical suppression of freedom and truth! Vive la République!

Anyone else think that Trump is using his absurd tweeting/narrative and subsequent media reactions to distract the new party of opposition from stonewalling his agenda? Whether intentional or not, it seems to be working fairly well for now... Wouldn't be the first time he riled up the media to further his agenda.

Alright, not trying to be a dick, but you have the wrong attitude. Is the A-10 your #1 choice of airframe? If so, why the hell would you even consider not applying? They're probably going to ask you what you would do if they switch to a heavy/C-130/RPA/F-16/whatever.... Be thinking about what you would actually do for each of those cases and answer accordingly.

From what I got from Kiloalpha is that the A-10 units are not as competitive as the other fighter units.

Imagine saying that during an interview weekend. Hey guys, thanks for inviting me out here, answering all my questions, telling me some great stories, giving me invaluable advice on pilot training and the AF in general, and giving me a preview of your unit and its culture... I had such a great time, and I'm so glad "A-10 units are not as competitive as the other fighter units." Do you think you'd get the job? My guess is that, if you were invited for an interview, you would rather receive a swift kick to the nuts than to utter that phrase.

You're on the right track with being upfront about your desire to fly the A-10. I don't know of any cases where love for a platform has killed someone's chance. Stick with that attitude, and kill any and all thoughts that don't align with that attitude.

This is so dumb.  Trump didn't even win as many votes as Clinton, so the Russians did a pretty lousy job "hacking" the election for Trump.  Explain to me how some freaking Russian cyber thugs knew how to expertly place an influence campaign in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan while the Clinton campaign itself couldn't figure it out.

Fvcking THANK YOU! Would anyone want to place bets on whether or not any politicians consult the Russians in 2020 to figure out which counties they need to campaign in to win the swing states?

As long as the US electoral process is damaged, Russia meets its goal.

I don't know what's so hard to understand about this, but here we are bickering about foreign electoral influence like it's some sort of surprise. YGBSM.

Exactly, and the polarized politicians don't care about there actually being a connection between Russia and Trump as much as they care about dragging out this "investigation" as long as possible to induce Cold War reminiscent hysteria.

Every time Trump says or does something that makes me skeptical, the medias overreaction is so rabid that I end up defending him.

When did this change and no longer include AR? Every 3rd party study guide and AFOQT resource I can find (aside from the link in my original post) says that AR is part of the pilot score. Obviously I am going to study AR either way but I'm just confused as to why the information out there isn't consistent.

A large portion of the resources online and almost all of the good study guides are holdovers from the Form S, since Form T is fairly new and doesn't have very many significant changes. I think there may be 1 Form T AFOQT study guide book out there, but I've been told it's not any better than the Form S books. The only Form T study material I used was the afpc website. All the other resources I used were tailored to Form S. Whenever you find a location to take your AFOQT, just contact the people in charge of administering the test, and they'll be able to confirm that AR is no longer part of the pilot score (I did that as well just to be sure).

Comey was a tool and firing him would look bad....until yesterday, when Clapper said over and over under oath there was no collusion between Trump and Russia.   That gave Trump the breathing room to fire him, Obama should have fired him.  And Ns, love ya man but Russia didn't hack the election, they hacked the DNC and did it help?  It certainly didn't hurt, but Hillary was a terrible candidate that nobody trusted.  Bernie had a better chance I think, at least he's honest about his views, I like him for that, but his views would take us down the road of Venezuela.  Trump wasn't my guy, I liked Rubio or Cruz, but I like most of what he says and is doing, all be it with the Trump flair which I find entertaining.  This whole thing is just to delegitimize Trump so it is partisan, but we don't have to hate each other.  The BIG story everyone is missing is who ordered the unmasking, that would be bigger than WaterGate.

    My $ is on Rice.

@nsplayr, I don't have to agree with you, but this thread would suck if it were just a circle-jerk of conservative opinions... Your opposing view is valued and necessary. Alright, enough of the :rainbow: shit...

The Russians didn't even hack the DNC, per say. John Podesta alerted the IT department that he was told there was an attempt to hack his e-mail, and a suspicious link was provided to change his password. The IT guy said it was a "legitimate" e-mail and that he should change his password. He meant to say it was an "illegitimate" e-mail, and that he should change his password. So a typo allowed for a known and reported phishing attempt to be successful. And Bernie>Clinton any day, even if he's a socialist with 3 houses (the irony).

Here's a view from the other side, although to be honest the whole notion of "another side" of things is part of what's hurting our country very badly right now:

Comey absolutely fucked up in his handling of the Clinton email investigation. I basically fully agree with the memo written by the recently confirmed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that can be read here. In an alternate bizarro world, if DAG Rosenstein was serving under a President Hillary Clinton, I would be fully supporting of Comey being fired for the reasons stated. The FBI needs to never be even perceived as putting a thumb on the scale during any election. Although even with Comey's election-season actions, I'm generally an institutionalist and don't like to see tumultuous upheaval in important US institutions. If Clinton and Comey could have found a way to coexist in the same administration, that would have also been fine by me, even preferable. FBI Directors are supposed to serve 10-year terms that are not aligned with Presidential administrations for a reason.

That all being said, everything changed when the March 20th Comey testimony in front of the House Intelligence Committee happened. At that point, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Comey's boss at DOJ, had recused himself of any possible inquiries into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia after it was revealed he had undisclosed contacts with Russian Ambassador Kislyak. On March 20th, while under oath, Comey confirmed what many suspected for months, that the FBI had an open and ongoing inquiry into the Trump campaign and possible ties to Russia. This isn't "fake news" propagated by the "liberal media" and Democrats, it's straight from the horse's mouth while under oath.

As soon as that was openly acknowledged, Comey absolutely, 100% needed to remain in place. With Sessions recused and the FBI typically being fairly independent anyways, Comey was basically 100% in charge of investigating the sitting President's campaign and associates, looking for possible ties to, collusion with or other assorted nefarious business with Russians and/or the Russian government. That investigation is still happening today.

Now Comey is summarily fired, ostensibly for reasons not related to the Russia investigation, and that is a really, really shocking turn of events. There is bipartisan outcry over Comey's firing and for good reason.

Comey "fvcked up" for the left, and he "fvcked up" for the right. He's playing nonpartisan politics in a highly polarized world. He's honestly lucky he just got fired instead of the normal "let's dig into his past so we can bring up dirt, destroy his career, and make him quit."

I think Sessions did absolutely nothing wrong, but was caught up in the "let's get everyone outraged at a possible Russia-Trump connection" frenzy that is still taking place. I'm neutral on the recusal, but definitely don't think it was "absolutely necessary." Was there ever any evidence that the Trump campaign and Russia colluded? If yes, show me or tell me it's classified, but those with a need-to-know will have access to it. If no, then start to wind down the "investigation", and stop the witch hunt until actual evidence or "reasonable suspicions" (whatever the fvck that means) surfaces.

Also, the media needs to stop trying to get me outraged at every little thing Trump does. I'm so numb to it now that when he actually does something stupid (like 99% of the time he Tweets) I just assume the media is foaming at the mouth again (cry wolf much?). Convince me that, if collusion exists, it's worse than Obama telling the Russian politician to tell Putin that "he would have more flexibility after the election" or it's worse than Obama making a huge push and wasting a lot of money to try to stop Netanyahu from getting re-elected. I know we meddle in the politics of rivals/enemies, but do we meddle in the politics of our allies now? What's "allowed" and what's not? (honest questions)

It's too soon for me to form my own opinion, but right now this is how I see the media reacting to Comey being fired (wooo!!!)... by Trump (wooo's fading).... at the recommendation of Jeff Sessions (BOOO!!!!!!!):

So I am about a year out from gradutaing college with my Aeronautical bachelors degree. 3.6 GPA. I am looking to apply to my local ANG fighter unit. I have my commercial, Instrument, CFI, couple hundred hours of Civ flight time. What should I be doing now to get the ball rolling? I assume I should start getting ready to take the AFOQT and the TBAS? I've gathered a couple of LORs so far and not really sure where to go from here. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The things you already know: Keep your grades up, study for and ace the AFOQT, and take the TBAS. Information on the AFOQT is abundant here. Use the Q&A section if you think your question is stupid, or already answered.

Start trying to visit the ANG unit during drill weekends. Be a sponge, and be yourself. Showing genuine interest shouldn't be hard since that's the unit you want to fly with, and they fly fighters. But never pass up the opportunity to STFU. Are you more interested in the unit because they fly fighters, because they fly your favorite fighter, or because of the location? The answer to that question will tailor a lot of your discussion with them or other units you may become interested in.

  19. The day before Comey was fired, and some say even hours before, the left was calling for his head. Staunch Hillary supporters were furious at him after she accused him of being the one to steal her victory away (which shows that she's still utterly clueless as to why she lost). Paul Ryan, however much you like or dislike him, hit the nail on the head: Russia/Comey/whoever didn't put the server in her basement, and they didn't tell her to ignore Wisconsin and Michigan.

Trump deals in absolutes. Comey uses non-specific rhetoric. The attitude trending is that there was no collusion with the Russians, but Comey didn't outright say that. Incorrectly stating that the e-mails were forwarded to Weiner's laptop was the excuse Trump needed. Trump was already upset with what I'm sure he perceived as Comey taking the initiative to not recommend charges against Clinton, then being so standoffish on stating that there was no collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. The two of them aren't compatible. Trump saw that a week ago, then again yesterday, and canned him.  Agree or disagree with the decision/method/timing, that's what happened.

    afoqt chart.png

The link and associated table is correct. Pilot score is MK, TR, IC, and AI. AFPC info is up to date on AFOQT/TBAS, and honestly a source you should definitely use. My personal advice to you is that you should still study AR, but more importantly you need to know that the time on instrument comprehension has been reduced from 6 minutes (Form S) to 5 minutes (Form T), but the pictures are much clearer now (and we don't have to walk to school uphill both ways in the snow). Again, use the link you posted. Also, you cannot use any form of straight edge on table reading. You can use 1 pointer finger, but cannot place it flat against the sheet with the table. Time yourself multiple times until you can definitely handle the time constraint. For Pilot/Nav/AA/Verb/Quant I got 99/92/95/77/99. Hope that helps, and good luck!

I mean, I've been to MEPS a couple times in preparation for getting my FC1, and the number one comment I heard from the (almost literally) kids there when they found out I was trying to fly was, "Oh, I'd have done that, but I have glasses." The myth that you must have superhuman eagle vision is extraordinarily prevalent. Lots of misconceptions like that exist, I think. How many people know that the Guard and Reserve actually commission and train new pilots, outside of these forums and a few others like it? Not many. I didn't, really, until a friend in Reserve suggested I look into it. It's well known that the recruiters aren't exactly a well of knowledge and veracity, as well.

I guess my point is, maybe the traditional method what the USAF has done for pilot recruiting is great for recruiting white guys, but not for other groups. I don't want pilot affirmative action by any means, but increasing the applicant pool by targeting demographics that simply don't apply in serious numbers would increase the quality of pilots by simple numbers.

    Never self eliminate. Ever.
