  1. Karl- my one worry about this is that evaluators will/might feel pressure about giving Q3s to guys they know are up and comers or tight with the boss. This could lead to seriously degraded crews. I'd agree that flight performance should always be highlighted and weighted over community service and other queep, but I'd not want any outside influence in check rides.
  2. Wait a minute. In your earlier post you lumped non-conformists with mediocre and crybabies. Now your saying that the contrarian leaders are the ones we need to wade thru this river of bull$hit so they can make a difference. In my vocab, contrarian and non-conformist are pretty synonymous. Can't have it both ways. And let's be honest. How many sq/CCs really want the contrarian view? I've had 10 sq/cc in 13 years and NONE of them wanted the contrarian view. They wanted the view that would make them look good to the guy that wrote their OPR, or the view that reinforced their initial idea. And BTW, no one is getting out because it's "hard". How insulting. We're getting out because the service that demands excellence in all we do, doesn't seem to expect excellence in all it does. At least that's why I'm looking for the door.
  3. Shack. Like I've told people at the office: I'm not angry at the AF. I'm angry that the institution I've spent my entire adult life in, the one that is supposed to exemplify 'excellence in all we do', should be executing at this level (/holds hand over head/) but is acting like it is down here (/holds hand down by junk/). I want the service that I've sacrificed for to operate at the same level it has expected me to operate at.
  4. You can either get a fake masters or a fake pme. Your choice.
  5. The problem won't be directing the boards to not consider AAD. The problem is that your Sq/CC to Wg/CC will know your AAD status and you can expect to be racked and stacked accordingly. Since 90% of OPRs look the same, there are only a few ways to determine who gets the number one strat. Until we find a way to get supervisors to give honest and critical feedback then board instructions will not matter. Seems to me that most CCs would rather write OPRs using the secret decoder ring and let the boards act as the anonymous bad guy than deliver the news personally that a member isn't making the cut.

Why work hard trying to break encryption when you can just wait for stupidity and incompetence to run their natural course.

    Mustache March

Where did you get that, and how can we get one?
  8. I know, crazy talk! Mine was earned. I was going to write a defense of my community, but after a dozen years of being good enough for our receivers to consider us 'admin' I really don't feel the need anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Wore my Friday shirt and patches yesterday for the first time. What a breath of fresh air! Our squadron chose black shirts to make our scarves really pop. The boss held an open ranks inspection to ensure everyone's morale-building flare was fully standardized. I've never stood taller. Probably because my belleville's have a two inch heel. //sarcasm off In all seriousness, it was pretty fun to wear the black shirt again, and watching the girl in the MPS look at my name tag three times before realizing that it was a c/s, not my real first name.
  10. Interesting. So if these FM programs run for concurrent years then I guess there won't be any PCSing for a while. Great if you're in LA or out east. Not so much if you got FAIPed in Del Rio...
  11. If you have them and can access them, I'm pretty sure I read in the new 2903 that ABUs are approved on commercial flights now. Check with your nearest enlisted member for details.
  12. Not sure what my favorite part of this email is. First they try to act like this delay is for our benefit: Then they straight up admit that they don't know what they're doing yet: As Carolla says, I'm done being on this retarded merry go round. VSP, PC, RIF. Whatever. Just GMTFO.
  13. Unfair. While hyperbolic toward AF CCs (maybe), no one was calling Beerman a wife beater. ^^This. It's awesome to me to hear my contemporaries say they had a great experience in the AF. It makes me hopeful that it can be the organization I thought it was a dozen years ago. But there are some stovepipes that have become toxic. See the missileer thread for an example. I would contend that the tanker career field tries to eat its own. There's a reason we're called tanker lawyers. If and when I get to leave, it will be done with no ill will toward the service. 16 yo me would never have believed the awesome things he'd be doing in a few years. But when the AF makes it clear that it doesn't have a future for you, then read the writing and bow out gracefully, I say.
  14. My first thought for Ram was that it was a dude. But thanks for giving me the space to be me!
  15. This is amazing to me. I knew early that I would have a hard time sticking it out so I started looking for a guard unit soon after arriving to EGUN. My wife ended up as a bowling partner with the wing king's wife, so I had the nervous and awkward privilege of having bowling alley's best lunch specials with them. After a few of these, and deciding that the guy was pretty straight up, I made an apt to see him. I was shaking in my bag. Figured I was ending my career before it had started. He listened to my story and my request for a recommendation. When I was done he shook my hand and told me how pleased he was that I was going to continue my service in the guard, and total force (never heard of it) and he's going to do everything in his power to help. I got a draft rec letter from him that made me want to cry. It was awesome. Three weeks later, they closed PC. The guy never fed me the 'service before self' line. Even said he and his wife had seriously considered leaving at one point. I never saw any retaliation or blowback from the visit. I still have the letter. You might say he was just feeding it to me, and if he were a lesser man I'd agree. Fast forward five years and I received a hand written note apologizing for not being able to attend my WIC grad, but that he was happy to see I'd ridden it out so far. He was a BGen at that point.
  16. Too much teeth? His technique is bad? Hey, no judging here. To each their own.
  17. Tankers don't have any special quals that are taught at the FTU. Plus, we've been non-vol'ing folks to Altus for years. Never change horsemen mid apocalypse.
  18. Interesting. I don't see that from the reg you quoted, but whatever. Shitty policy all around. I guess I can see it tho. When I was casual at Scott many moons ago (do they still do casual?) it wasn't the ROTC grads that went crazy with freedom and money. We had freedom and (some) money during college, so acting that way out of college wasn't that big of a deal. For the zoo grads, on the other hand....
  19. Sends and receives data wirelessly. If it really is the same model. His had a button that directed you to the nearest airfield. Gave distance and bearing as I recall. Pretty sure he said he couldn't wear it to work. Too rich for my blood.
  20. Not sure he's been given the authority for that.... Hahaha who am I kidding.
  21. 1. More proof that women can get way crazier than men. Can you imagine slathering poison on you junk then trying to get a mouth hug? 2. I think we can all agree that we need a picture of the accused before passing judgement. 3. I can think of worse ways to go.
  22. I guess I'm not seeing where the restriction lies. If you travel beyond 175 mi from base you are required to fill out a 29B. Do they deny your pass at that point? I never had to deal with the ADCON portion of the FTU, but as I recall the stud Flt/cc just checked the plan for safety/validity and gave the typical "don't do anything dumb, dangerous, or different and keep it wrapped" speech. Otherwise it's not much of a pass. But it doesn't sound like a mileage restriction. Did I miss something?
  23. Have yet to hear of any O getting word about this. Seems like everyone went off the red/blue matrix.
  24. One of the bros in the sq has one. Can't take it in a secure location. Other than that, pretty cool.
