  1. Quick polling of the CGOs in my sorry neck of the woods indicates no one is willing to stop their masters even if they did have top cover from the CSAF. Only WWIII would fix this disaster

Flip side of this coin is, I've stopped using TA because I'm getting close to the end of my committment and want the flexibility to unass the area if I decide I don't want to do this anymore. That being said, I'll play the game until the day I decide I won't anymore, so I'm still working toward an AAD, and I've started shelling out of pocket for my ERAU coursework so I don't incur any ADSC for using TA. I figure being already over halfway done, why not finish?

  2. We're having problems getting stuff we actually need on the EFBs. For instance, the UTTR range guide is FOUO, and we had it on the EFB initially, but once comm found out it was marked as such, we were directed to remove it. Same thing with the JFIRE. Some BS about the OPR hasn't "given us permission to use it" on the EFB. The comm nazis are having a field day with this. We've also been told that is has to be password protected until we get to the jet, at which time we can unprotect it, but only for the duration of the flight, and God help you if you're caught with it sitting on your desk and no password. Our EFB guru Lt has been directed to do random spot checks, and there's some sort of violation involved (sts) if he finds your iPad in such a condition.

  3. +1^

Several girls at SOS today showed up with mustaches taped on...it was nice to see some semblance of humor still exists and everything doesn't have to be called sexist/racist/etc

I'd be curious to know what the percentage was of those ladies wearing bags vs ABUs.

  4. How about Bomber, Prowler, and Compass Call guys? Those platforms put out tons of 'trons as well. I've know a couple of bomber guys who've gotten cancer in their late 20s or early 30s.

Same. Right when I showed up to my squadron, we had an AC who had been diagnosed stomach cancer, and passed away a few months after I had been there. Left behind a wife and newborn daughter.

  5. Interesting story about "in the fight"...I had the same feeling in nav school. I wanted to go kick ass and take names. Many of my instructors were former B-52 guys who had all kinds of stories about raining hate in OEF and OIF. My Flt/CC was the lead nav on the night one CALCM strike. So, I wanted and got a Buff. Funny thing is, Buffs aren't "in the fight" anymore, at least as far as dropping ordnance on hajis goes. We go to Guam and do the deterrence thing. Look at the front page of CNN today, though, to see what kind of effects we produce. What I'm getting at is that "in the fight" is relative. I have buddies who fly RJs, tankers, EC-130s and AWACs who have been to the sandbox multiple times over and have air medals and deployment ribbons out the yingyang, and who bring effects to the fight in a very real way, but have never dropped a weapon in anger. In the fight doesn't always mean putting a JDAM through Abdul's bedroom window.

  6. There was the one dude immediately post-FTU. Basically inprocessed the squadron and left for training about two days later. There was another, but not sure if she was pre-or post FTU. I believe it was a pre-FTU assignment. Those are the only two I know of.

  7. Wow, Polygone, haven't heard that name for a few years...

And I bet you were happy to get out of Minot for a while. Was up there in August and again in October, and that was enough for me!

I was only there for my annual week-long vacation...Minot's like a bad penny, you just can't get rid of it!

  8. I'm sure I've seen one before.

The short answer is no. I've never been issued one and aside from a power point classroom lesson I vaguely remember from UPT, I haven't used one at all.

Can't speak for Pensacola, but all Randolph-trained navs know how to use one, and B-52 navs still use it routinely. Ours is an MB4, though, not an E6B. Can't speak to the exact differences.

  9. Been a lot of that going around lately. Some CAP cadet on a static display tour got

offended by the nose art on "Immortal Soul" (basically a skull with a chief's feather head dress) and because the little punk got all butt hurt, they ripped that nose art right off the jet...wtf? We care that some CAP fatkins got offended?

  10. At least in my squadron, we're short of co-rockets, and I think it's the same across the community. If you want to fly alot, it's not a bad place to be. We are not in the fight right now, but expect that if anything else kicks off, we'll be the night one door kicker. Shreveport and Minot aren't exactly garden spots, but at least as far as Shreveport, there are worse places to be. At least for now, they're shipping single dudes to Minot, since a large chunk of the available housing has been tied up after the flooding. Guam is not a bad place to deploy. Scuba diving, boony stomping and the like on the weekends. The flying is good out there, alot of long duration sorties to other parts of the Pacific, and regular weapons drops on FDM. All in all, it's not a bad platform to be on.

  11. I seldom use the BX other than for the food court. Might be picking nits, but my only real gripe is that you go in one BX and they have stuff I'd actually want to eat, Popeyes, Subway, Manchu Wok, but you go in others and it's Robin Hood, Anthony's and Charlie's. If we have brand-name companies willing to put outlets in, why do we keep having a parallel DoD-only type thing with the off-brands? If Subway will put in a store on base, why do we need to keep supporting a Charlie's subs chain?

  12. Hopefully I'm not alone in the fact that I will continue wearing my Friday shirt, unless somebody in a bag with wings on his chest tells me not to. Fucking shoes...this is the AIR Force, we FLY, break shit and hurt bad people. If you're so damned butthurt about not being able to wear a bag, maybe you should've worked harder.
