  1. Good indefinitely for military seems like a bit of a stretch. There's a little more to it. It also seems like the type of equipment you operate could be a factor too.

    (b) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs (a)(1) and (2) of this section, an applicant for an airline transport pilot certificate or an additional rating to an airline transport certificate may take the practical test for that certificate or rating with an expired knowledge test report, provided that the applicant:

    (1) Is employed as a flight crewmember by a certificate holder under part 121, 125, or 135 of this chapter at the time of the practical test and has satisfactorily accomplished that operator's approved--

    (i) Pilot in command aircraft qualification training program that is appropriate to the certificate and rating sought; and

(ii) Qualification training requirements appropriate to the certificate and rating sought; or

[(2) Is employed by the U.S. Armed Forces as a flight crewmember in U.S. military air transport operations at the time of the practical test and has completed the pilot in command aircraft qualification training program that is appropriate to the pilot certificate and rating sought.]

Just did this a few months ago. ATP written completed in 2009. All the examiner wanted from me was a letter from the CO stating I had been an active mil flyer at the time I took the ATP in 2009. ATP complete!!!

  2. One of my IP's was a Vietnam pilot with 40 years of service (guard guy).

He had been a scout pilot in Vietnam and after hearing his story of the day he was shot down 3 times in the same area we were just in awe. Especially when he was talking about trying to get a bird that was down for MX up so he could go out a forth time.

Dude could barely walk the flight line to the birds, but he could make a one man air show in the helicopter.

DAC Ron Donakowski by chance?? Shot down in a Loach 3x in one day (once by a .51 cal) Great guy

  3. Sounds like these guys had a rough couple days before this flight. Two days off in Rome and almost non-existent flight planning facilities in which to read through the flight plan that somebody else did for them? Instead of punishment they should be submitted for DFCs.

Checks, if this were a Herc crew, we would've been coordinating dips, 1801, PPR, lodging, trans, etc. etc. IFM package, what's that??

  4. Because the AD is going all J, the Reserves were chosen to take over the C-130H FTU (decision made summer 2010). They've been building up since 2011, and now that is changing. The 189 AW got political backing to take over the majority of FTU training because the C-130 instructor school is going all simulator. The Guard is supposed to get 75% of the FTU, while the Reserves get 25% & are combat coded. Lots of issues to be worked out still...

The IP schoolhouse for the H will be all sim based??? Wow

  5. Ditto on the Casio Pathfinder. I've had one for 2 years and no issues. Backpacking, skiing, etc. Solar power/auto sync w/ Ft. Collins every night/no battery to change are all a plus. And its only about 100 bucks.

  6. PM me and i can give you some specifics if needed. Short story, I went through this 10 years ago, failed red lens test. After a 3 day eval at Brooks, they determined I had mild esophoria of the right eye, normal, normal on everything else ie 20/10 vision etc. There is a study group ongoing in the AF (several dozen of us??). If everything else checks out, they will give you a waiver, put you in the study group, and you'll have to follow up once a year taking various tests (intra-ocular pressure, Humphrey visual field test, etc.) This is done to see if the condition worsens with age. Mine was determined to be congenital (since birth).
