  1. You could theoretically get 20-30 additional points pretty easy.  BUT...

Because it's a Reserve job, it's a massive - maybe even unworkable - pain as a DSG.  UTAPS doesn't talk to the Guard MPF systems and apparently even manually handing in 40As didn't seem to work.  I've known two people that tried PIRR programs as DSG and neither got any points for their efforts.  One DSG gave it up and one is still doing it for zero credit.

If you crack the code, let everyone here know because it's a known issue unless you're already a Reservist.

  2. Any decent employer will have good healthcare.  Plenty of families have special needs kids outside of the .mil and they do just fine.  Something to be said, too, for continuity of care > 3 years.

If Tricare is critical, get an IMA/Cat B job or more and keep TRS in the ARC then stay in the ARC for 28.  You’ll have a good grasp or grown kids by then.

about time that they hold CC’s responsible for the overall fitness of the unit.

I think you'll rue the day Trebek you said that.  If a CC is getting graded on your PT test, that incentivizes him to have more mandatory fun runs, unit PT, mock PT tests, etc.  If I'm a CC getting called on the carpet about your 69 failing score, I'm at least going to have documented all of my efforts to fix you.

  4. Sure, you can bum and buy a house and all those things.  Lenders will want to see a few months of pay to establish a trend.  It's a tough road, though, and you'll have to be johnny on the spot with whatever the scheduler offers.  Temp or full time tech is probably a more palatable solution for you as a young co at the bottom of the O pay scale.

When the economy turns south, it's not so much that the money dries up, but dudes will come out of the woodwork looking for days and there's less per capita.  Where in good times there are 3 of you wanting that next trip, in bad times, there are 10 dudes lined up wanting that next Benning TDY.  Hopefully the airlines don't furlough next time because then it would be especially ferocious at the ops desk.

Not sure if this meets the intent; the headlamp is powerful enough to accomplish pre/post flight stuff so one could easily ditch the flashlight in the pocket.

LED headlamp around the neck was SOP for that 1am #2 in the Bagram portapotty.  Worked great.  Turn it off and you could almost imagine you're in a county fair portapotty instead of a third world shithole.

Would it be frowned upon to finish training, then immediately drop mil leave to head up to my AFRC unit to in-process?

Are we talking 5 days to in-process or 15 months to in-process and get MR in your new ride?

The Wing Commander called him and the other flying squadron commanders in and was seriously confused why no one was staying in past their Initial UPT commitment.

  8. Hopefully you'll both, "Don't do something, just stand there."

Yes, if you're talking about a taxable/brokerage account and not an IRA, TSP, 401k, etc, then you'll owe capital gains on your growth.

That could be long term (rate varies) or short term (taxed like income), depending on when you bought and also how you track your cost basis.

If you have a low income year or deploy or whatever, you can use that to reset your cost basis with "tax gain harvesting" and pay 0% LTCG.

Anybody here fly the MAFFS mission? I’m interested in that post AD but I’m not a 130 guy. Would that matter to those units?

As long as you don't expect to go from Little Rock to a fire in 6-9 months, you can probably get there eventually.  After MAFFS 7, they tightened up the experience minimums.

Either way, MAFFS is a fraction of the mission so make sure you're joining wanting to do the Herk mission.  You'll do a lot more of that than fires, even once you have the experience for MAFFS.
