Dating yourself with that one! I freaking loved that movie back in the day. Also, nice crossover for Iron Eagle and Backdraft with Jason Gedrick being in both.

  2. Possibly unpopular take here but if the CC literally said “yeah, go have fun” after some guy said “let me go rip it around for a bit, it’ll be fine”, he’s an idiot. Those maneuvers are well within the capability of any Eagle Driver and the airplane but a demo is a very specific skill and a lot more too it than plugging the AB and going for it.

Can’t emphasize this enough. Just went through an airline interview and was almost screwed by the AAMS system going away. Hope everyone saved their green monster.

Really? I've heard from dozens of sources (including the airlines) that they just need the FHR summary.

  4. I'm a huge fan of the old ACE (Accelerated Copilot Enrichment) concept and really believe we should put some companion trainers at every base to let folks fly and get air sense in a cheaper trainer. If the argument is "more is better" (I disagree with this but I'm in the minority) in terms of flight hours, get some airplanes that you can fly a bunch and get experience on the cheap. @Pooter nailed it with his T-6 example.

  5. I saw somewhere that the F-35 pilot put the jet on autopilot before he punched. I wonder if he was in the controlled bailout area before doing that because I think they've got a good spot away from population if they can't find the wreckage lol.

  6. Joe Milton and the Vols really underperformed in that game. They have a more talented team but fell flat on their face.

Colorado vs Colorado State...man. CSU had so many opportunities to win that game. Colorado is soooo overrated, holy crap. They've got some good individual talent, but they don't have the depth at the DL or talent at the LB positions to beat really good teams without having to score 40 points. Additionally, they don't have the beef to hold up all year. Look at the difference between their players and Alabama. In a couple years of training and growth, look out.

Also, the media is doing the classic thing where they are simping like crazy to the whole Sanders family to watch them fall apart and then ask if their whole schtick is a distraction. The perfect example was talking about Shedeur Sanders having all this poise and catching him on camera poking a CSU DL in the eyes while they're saying it. Or his insistence on being in the middle of everything and starting all kinds of shit with the other team. They're going to lose eventually and I think that loss will be pretty ugly. Everyone will dogpile on when it happens which really sucks.

Seems like kind of a waste of time & money to me. Do we sent guys to TPS with an immediate follow on assignment handing out gym towels at the Deid?

No shit there I was at Nellis (WIC IP) about to graduate a WIC class when I start getting calls from folks up the chain of one of our students wanting to interview a student to be a wing exec. I told them no and that his focus was WIC until he was done and highlighted the 11-415 requirements for new WO’s. Kept getting leaned on until the O-6 had me on the phone telling me that he was going to interview the guy and that I was going to set up a VTC to do it. Refused, ran it up my chain, food fight ensued and then didn’t hear anything else until the day before graduation I find out the Wing CC went around everyone and got a VTC set up to interview the guy. A week after WIC grad he started as a wing exec. I personally know of 4 different guys that did this. So damn disheartening and frustrating but some people just don’t view anything beyond what it can do for their resume.

I thought the point was that the upper, upper echelon got to go to sister service schools for that sweet "joint" experience. Now they want to push those guys back into Air Force schools.

I have a feeling it's just going to result in more declinations until the bottom 50% are the ones at Maxwell.

Probably what they're trying to avoid. I always thought that was a bait and switch where you can go to DARPA or the Willy Wonka factory or whatever else for IDE but still had to do ACSC online to get IDE credit.

I hope they still have guys go to the sister service schools so they can come back and act all superior and speak some filthy Pig Latin about "METT-TC", "MDMP", and "it's not gay if it's underway" and the like.

  9. My main suggestion would be getting rid of the pet to a family member and enjoying Europe. That an option? Not trying to be a smart ass but Europe is great when you can just blast off for the weekend and see something cool without something tying you down.

  10. I’ll take a stab at the “doctrinal” concept of air superiority/strategy as related to fighters. Using China as an example, long range precision fires, maritime interdiction of supplies, and non-kinetics will play more of a role in achieving the AF’s #1 doctrinal priority than a 4-ship of Raptors on a Banzai flow. Admittedly, in a tactical sense of traditional strike packaging, you need to have the OCA players out front steamrolling the lane, but to think only fighters have a role to play in air superiority is incorrect.

  11. Different question on leave but wanted to keep it in this thread.

Can you sell back leave while Active Duty? I see that you can sell back up to 60 days during your career and usually that's done when you separate if you don't take terminal. My thought would be you can sell the 60 days back throughout your career and then when it's terminal time, you just use the remaining balance as terminal leave. Kind of a double whammy situation.

    Is that allowed?

  12. This came out a few years ago and then there were 3 subsequent article written by a black ENJJPT grad that claims he was targeted for wanting to fly heavies and being black (https://www.airforcetimes.com/opinion/commentary/2020/07/12/the-consequences-of-implicit-bias-at-euro-nato-pilot-training/).

^Author’s personal page. Looks like he’s done very well.

I don’t think there will be any more “white people bad” meetings in the near term as a result of this video.

  13. Slife to me is a textbook case of the importance of referential power and reputation. He was a hardass when he was the wing commander at HRT and didn’t make any friends. Fast forward when he came back as AFSOC CC, so many people that knew nothing about him had negative views of him based purely on WOM from his earlier tenures.

I understand the man in that everything is black and white and you need to follow those processes or face the consequences.  He handles business harshly which also doesn’t make many friends. He had some good ideas and some bad ideas but based purely on that reputation, it didn’t matter what it was the force was resistant.
