  1. I've failed my hearing test the last three years in a row.  Each time the tech tells me "sir, you need to be back within 30 days to retest so we can reset your baseline."  But no one has mentioned it again when I never show back up...
Probably just a WOM, but I've talked to 3-4 guys that had the same thing, fell for the trick of actually going back, only to get 0% for hearing when they retire.  They think the reset baseline makes it look like they've had zero hearing loss.  Or maybe the VA hearing baseline is absolute and based on a retired artillery NCO.

Retired almost 15 years ago, so take it for what it’s worth. 7 baseline adjustments over 20 years. Never off flight status for hearing. At my VA compensation physical, the audiologist stops my hearing test, opens the door and asks me “are you really not hearing the tones?” Reset/Regen, and 15 minutes later she asks “Has anyone ever told you you need hearing aids? You’re legally deaf in the higher frequencies”

I was still on flight status at the time. Don’t even think the AF is looking out for your interests. And claim EVERYTHING!

  2. If you let them take away your espirit de corps, then they have won. Fight them at every turn.

I’m 15 years retired, but still working with my community. Some CGOs are excited and motivated about their careers, but most are just passing through and collecting a paycheck on their way to the airlines. I need to find the “no more golden apples” speech on here and repost. It’s more applicable today than it ever was in the late 90s…

  3. I’ve seen this happen a few times over the years about not wearing the squadron morale shirts, Friday patches, even the OG at Kadena is having Eagle Drivers not wear their Eagle Driver patches (you know, as their jet with nearly 5 decades and 104 kills worth of history goes away and they are all thrown into thrash). I legitimately don’t understand the impulse to take that away. Does anyone have a compelling answer? And I know most of you are rabid retards that hate the Air Force and are looking for any reason to complain, but I’m curious for a legitimate answer.

Political Correctness. Camaraderie and Esprit de Corps are dead in most (not all) of the current military leadership.

  4. The demise of the O'Club on Friday is something I miss.

We used to have standard Friday stuff happening in the squadron... and around 1700 we would head to The Big House, meet the wives, and have a great time.

The camaraderie among the wives was pretty high back then, as a result. They did some pretty funny shit and managed to avoid getting arrested on base.

There were two years in a row when Hiram Walker sponsored  an ACC Crud Tournament at D-M and the winners (Moody AFB) got a $10,000 check. It was absolutely epic. The D-M Wing CC gave the opening remarks and I was expecting the usual bullshit-cover-your-ass. Not so much. He pretty much said "fight's on" and have a great time... and still made 2-stars.
I recall that every ACC base but one sent a team TDY the first year. I simply cannot imagine that happening in today's climate.
Our Beale team didn't win, but we did show up to the bar at 0930 on Saturday and didn't depart until 0230 Sunday.

    What a weekend.

UPT/FAIP world in 1990 was the same. Our WG/CC had the keys to the O Club bar that didn’t officially open until 1630. He opened it and unlocked the beer cooler at noon every Friday.

  5.  We had a C-130 pilot who had issues transitioning to the C-17. Turns out he was a weak sister in 130’s and his unit dumped him on us to cull the herd. He was pretty bad. I flew his “elimination” sim and he screwed up often. The Sq CC basically told him to take a non-flying job at the ALCE or face a FEB board. He took the ALCE job and finished his career there.

    Mid-late 90s transitioning from Pope?

  6. GHOSTED
You’ve been warned. Do not waste your time. The only saving grace here is that Ana de Armas is onscreen for most of it. Otherwise, your average Hallmark holiday romance has more depth, character development, and directorial skill than this sorry piece of garbage. I don’t think this would’ve even been greenlighted as a made for TV movie in the 80s. Two hours you’ll never get back.

    WTF are you referencing?

  7. I don't think the implication was that Biden was there to discover the balloons. I don't think the POTUS has anything to do with the whole F2T of any of that.
That article wasn't posted to throw shade at Trump. It was posted because the Biden admin accused the US public of not caring when Trump let balloons fly over the US but suddenly it was a problem that he's not shooting them down over Montana. The Trump admin and the DoD later released info that said they weren't even aware the overflights were happening while Trump was in office, it didn't become apparent to the DoD until afterwards, and only upon review did they recognize this had been occurring since Trump's presidency. Now, I'm not "in the know" anymore and frankly don't care to be. But that is the public narrative and that is the narrative China is digesting--is that the US didn't recognize immediately that these overflights were happening, then when they did recognize it they tried to keep it hush from the public, and only after the public started seeing the balloons and asking questions, did the government become transparent with more info.

    You’re ing ignorant

  8.  It’s literally a free SBR, no logical reason to wait on that! So yeah, I did it right away via e forms and it took about 1.5 months. Just wanted everyone who’s afraid of the illogical ATF boogeyman theory to know it is in fact, not an issue.
