Max Use or Lose Leave
I retired just under two years ago and took my permissive TDY + 86 days of terminal leave with no problems. That allowed me to start my post-retirement gig while still getting my AD pay, which was better than driving my wife crazy at home for 3 months...

Sleep Apnea and CPAP Machines
I had very different results than Brick and M2. I went into the flight doc for back problems (common in 17+ year Herk drivers) about a year before retirement, and mentioned to him that the back pain was so bad I was having problems sleeping. He recommended having a sleep study done prior to assigning blame to the back pain. My apnea (obstructive) was so bad, they woke me up in the middle of the night to start testing different masks. My blood O2 levels were dropping down into the low 70% region when they should never drop below ~95%. I found one that worked, came back in a couple weeks for another study with the mask I chose, and haven't looked back. I've worn it every night since Jan '08, and haven't had anything more than minor issues that could easily be fixed by adjusting the straps on the mask. It worked so well, I convinced my wife to get one (she's always snored)... There's many different manufacturers of CPAP machines and accessories, so don't give up too fast. Keep looking around and trying different stuff--you may get lucky and find one that works.

Depending on how much time you have in Vipers, your time to upgrade could be significantly shorter. When does your training at Little Rock start?

CAFTT - anyone done/doing this?
Mox--A good friend of mine is currently doing the C-27A thing with the Afghans. If you're interested, PM me and I'll put you in touch with him.

Pope wing commander removed from duty
Amazing...one operational tour straight out of UNT before he was a squadron commander. That plus a whopping 2200 hours makes him overqualified for command! Thank God I'm retired...

Little Rock info
Not necessarily true. I just retired from the 714th, and am going back to work there in April as a GS. Before I left (2 weeks ago), students with follow-ons to Kirtland/Cannon/Hurlburt were the priority. AFSOC's tired of the BS, and called AETC's bluff on slick students being the priority. Last I heard, AFSOC folks would be graduating on time/early... FWIW

USAF Weapons School (WIC) info
Each MWS sets its own minimum requirements (age/rank, hours, etc) which are spelled out in the initial board message. As ClearedHot said--they all accept waivers, but whether you get one is again dependent upon MWS and number of others applying to the school. PM if you want more info...

New Weapons School patch
Back-pedal...back-pedal...back-pedal (nice disclaimer) Seriously though, I'm 100% in agreement--it depends on the patch. Some divisions definitely have more tools than others, though...

Coast Guard info
Not sure about the nav piece, but CG pilots do train at Little Rock (at least for initial qual). We generally have a couple Coasties in training at any one time, and just got an exchange IP from the CG to teach at the FTU.
