AFA's response to F-22 criticism. A later correction stated "the F-18 and F-22 oxygen systems are similar but not the same. Still the Navy has had many, many incidences with its system." This is the first time that I've heard the "SecDef denied deployment requests" theory...and the argument that F-22s were perfect for air-to-ground work in Libya.

3 Jets (198, 199, 200) are extra jets that are at McGuire until they go somewhere else. They were some of the aircraft that congress bought that the AF did not request. The plan (at least when they arrived) was to push them off to one of the ANG/AFRC units that were in the works.

While the Air Force CGOC believes that no matter the fiscal environment, we need not forget the professional development needs of our junior force, we also must face the reality that the attendance minimums needed to meet our financial obligations for an annual conference are just not likely to be met this year. In that light, we have cancelled the 2012 Air Force CGO Professional Development Conference, originally scheduled to be held this May in Seattle, WA. We have been trying to find a way to make it work, but feel it is best to look for alternative means to provide Air Force-wide, CGO-focused, professional development opportunities for this year. The Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) team did a fantastic job of pulling together resources and creating a quality program, and we want to publically thank them for all their efforts. Luckily, they are able to transform many of their events into opportunities for local personnel, so if you are near JBLM this May, you may want to consider looking into what they have to offer. The Air Force CGOC will be looking for ways to continue to provide the excellent professional development and networking opportunities that we have become known for. If you have any ideas, we would love to hear from you! Please remember, an investment in a junior officer's professional growth IS an investment in their local mission, as well as the Air Force mission. Networking internal and external to their immediate career field, a better understanding of strategic initiatives, leadership lessons and exposures to new missions and ways of doing business are invaluable tools in making our Air Force mission succeed. Turns out the landmark clock tower is now a timeshare joint that also serves as a hotel (you do not need to be a timeshare member) Gave the gov't rate to a 6 person crew with no problem. All rooms are suites with kitchens and fantastic views. Right across the street from the Black Rose and one block away from Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market. 15 min walk to the Garden and North End. MBTA water shuttle to/from Logan right next to the Aquarium in the summer months--quick, cheap trip. When is the last time you took a boat to the airport after alert?

Stopping in the nation's smallest state? Stay at the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel( http://hotelsdowntownprovidence.com/). Nice place--built in a Masonic Temple that never was completed. Right near downtown and across from the State House. Short drive from TF Green and Quonset Point and they will give the gov't rate. It's a small state--everything is a short drive! Hungry? Union Station Brewery is just a short walk away as is RiRa (Irish Bar). How about some wieners? Olneyville NY system is a short drive (http://www.olneyvillenewyorksystem.com/) and is great after a night of drinkin or at any other time of the day. Want something more substantial? Bring the crew to Wrights Farm (http://www.wrightsfarm.com/) for some chicken family style. All you can eat broasted chicken, salad, soup, shells, fries--only in RI.

I counted four Qantas A-380s on the ramp at LAX this afternoon...all with the engines cracked open. A-3 for sure....parts plus who knows. Guessing the crews are in a rolling bravo in case the jets green up.

Charlie's DOES NOT NEED renovations! That "worn-down" feel is part of what makes that place great. On the other hand...if they are closing that place (as lots of SVC/CCs in the past have wanted to do apparently) then that is a shame. She is THE hardest working/most dedicated services employee in the AF. She has what thousands of others lack--pride in her job!

Brick- I knew about the CONUS SAMs...but where did we have CONUS AAA?

Yes, Troy's MSIR. Got another round of TA from the SAF/IA program as Troy's MSIR allows you to do a "regional concentration/focus" which covered the regional/area studies requirement SAF/IA approval & TA. The application process (this was 2+ years ago--might have changed) was very easy. I just emailed the SAF/IA folks...let them know I wanted to complete the MSIR and listed the courses I needed to take. That afternoon I got a letter to bring to the base Ed office that allowed me another round of TA.

Given your wife's job there would be ample job opps in the Phia area...far closer than DC to Dover. You could live in Philly or in the Philly suburbs in NJ. Either way you'd be set.
