    Finally done in Afghanistan?

    All we did was create a nation of dependents. I listened on the radio today as Afghanis claimed they have been abandoned.

    The Taliban want it more, so they will win.

    This should have happened 15 years ago.

    We had a reasonable expectation that the Afghans would taste freedom and sustain it with our aid.

    They let us down, not the other way around.

    They probably saw your AFRC patch and knew saying anything would be a lost cause.

    I’m not a reservist...AD, although I’m post 20, no bonus with the ability to call it quits anytime I like with 4 months notice and I let that be known.

    Do you want to allow me to wear the patches I want or do you want to lose a 4,000 hr 11F?

    I’m usually left alone.

    I haven’t been in AETC since 2011 but see Gen Wills interaction across the various Facebook groups so that’s all my knowledge. Why the hate for the guy? UPT evolution decisions or something else?

    I personally really like his act. I disagree with him in topics and have seen him interact with people in the bar who call him out. He’s polite, respectful and will share his view and admit it’s not infallible. Some people just love to hate leadership regardless. I respect the fact he’ll engage with the peasants. That’s more than many generals would do.

    And then the fighter guys turnaround and complain about not being supported in things like ACE, or that mobility lacks a tactical mindset.

    I’d love all the KC-135s to have working lights and crews not be afraid to turn them on over the desert.

    You are at much higher risk doing lights out ops from your receivers than any ground threat.

    And if you ever get the chance to brush up on HVA killers...do it. You’ll see that in today’s world. There is very little you can do other than stay waaaaaay away.

    Push tankers away 100 miles, you just lost 200 miles of fighter range.

    The new airline thread

    Can someone help me with airline pay math. I hear stories about the pay beating down USAF badly but there must be something I’m missing.

    Let’s take a 5th yr Southwest airline F.O. Making $150 an hour.

    At 75hrs per month that’s only $147,600 per year.

    I make more than that without a bonus.

    Do pilots generally fly more, is there hidden pay etc?

    I’m glad your parents subjective opinion was that life was valuable.

    Me too.

    Another thing funny to me is he many people I’ve worked with who are staunchly anti-abortion but don’t even shrug when they drop a bomb or strafe “bad guys”

    Because the bad guy doesn’t subjectively share their religious views...never mind his wife and 3 kids were just orphaned and he was just in the wrong place/wrong time.

    I did 6 years on two different assignments in “white jets”.   Bad deal?  Not for me.  
    I got a shitload of flying and instructing, and became a WAY better pilot as a result. 
     

    White jets get a bad rap for no good reason. After ~20 yrs of flying jets all over the spectrum in awesome places, my 3yr punishment tour at Laughlin was a great time when on paper it is ha far the worst jet and location of my career.

    Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)

    I’m satisfied with the UPT product. Are they overall as good aviators as 1990....maybe not. Do they need to be? No.

    It’s a different game. UPT standards over 30 years don’t mean much.

    I taught t-38s a decade plus ago and we washed kids out for stuff that isn’t even deemed relevant now.

    I was in my first B course 18 years ago today. Little to none of it applies to what I’m doing now. What took 12 jets to go back then, I can do with 4 today, safer and faster.

    Lots of old people decry change. I welcome it.

    Oh, and the T-1 is a huge reason we lowered attrition. Turns out KC-135 pilots don’t need 4-ship tac formation....no sh-t....!!!!!
