I'm pretty certain when ClearedHot said wear ALL ribbons and full size badges, he was trying to make wearing blues on Monday even gayer.

Airman Magazine Online Link to an article where someone responds to SMSgt Kost's comments. This comment is in regard to the “inappropriate patch” comment in Airman magazine [July/August 2008]. The only thing inappropriate was Senior Master Sgt. Joe Kost’s need to find something to complain about. FUBAR has been around so long, it’s become ingrained in the military life as has SNAFU and Tango Uniform. The only dichotomy is his desire to praise the article while ridiculing the captain. If the captain is out there putting her life on the line while representing our country, then I give her a huge “sierra hotel.” I won’t begrudge her patch just as I wouldn’t begrudge Vietnam War Soldiers a peace symbol on their helmets. There’s nothing inappropriate with the photo for Airman magazine to be ashamed of. Shame will only come if you chose not to publish photos like the one in question. That would be inappropriate censorship in my honest opinion. Retired Master Sgt. A. McMonnies Randolph Air Force Base, Texas

This will be the first semester using the scholarship, but my det staff told me to write AFROTC scholarship on the bill. I'm not sure how your bill appears, but ours asks what form of payment, and there's a box to check for scholarship and a blank next to it to write in what kind of scholarship. edit:spelling mistake

So the president signed the new GI Bill yesterday. Chapter 33 benefits go into effect August 1st, 2009. If you are currently receiving Chapter 30 benefits, you should see the monthly stipend increased to $1321 a month starting with the Fall 2008 semester. https://www.military.com/veterans-report/pr...bill?ESRC=vr.nl What I don't understand is why the president was going to veto the bill because he thought "[it] may entice servicemembers to leave the military". Is it because the Chapter 33 benefits are so great that people want to get out and use it? -USAFJosh

Not sure why you heard you aren't allowed to bring them. If you get sent home from Field Training early (SIE, medical, etc) you'll wear civilian clothes home. If you complete Field Training, you'll travel home in your blues. Your civilian clothes will remain in storage for the duration of your Field Training. You can't go wrong if your Form 2 tells you to bring it, so bring it.

That liquid seal-a-shine will be contraband according to the FTM. A few items on your list seems extremely unneccessary. The Macgyver joke is spot-on. I will point out the items I think you are bringing that are extremely useless at Field Training. This is my opinion, but there aren't any situations Macgyver could help you at Field Training. Useless: Copper wire Paper Clips/Clamps Small Stapler Bungee Cord Fishing line Super glue Orange duct tape tackle boxes (I don't know what size they are, but the only drawer you can store an item like that, the security drawer, is maybe 3 or 4 inches tall, 8 inches wide, 12 inches long) Things I like that you are bringing: Double sided tape gold bond mini D&C I can't forsee a use for the "useless" items. Maybe someone else can chime in. And yes, the supply officer gets an opportunity to go to the BX a time or two.

How is it going to affect your GPA? You have to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5, so if your GPA falls below this because of the two failures your chances are going to be slim. If your GPA remains above 2.5, a factor I can forsee is will this push your graduation back? Is it a core class? If I was in your shoes, I'd re-do my form 48s to include retaking those courses. Do what you can so your graduation doesn't get pushed back. You are going to have to notify your cadre of your failures, I'd go into that meeting prepared to demonstrate how you plan on recovering from the failures. Good luck.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. We didn't ask to wear tennis shoes at Maxwell 1, that was an initiative from staff. Most of us thought it was pathetic. We were ordered to wear tennis shoes with our BDUs for two days prior to departing for Blue Thunder, for fear that the training might be too intense at Blue Thunder and Joint Forces Training Center. Maxwell 1s intensity was pretty weak, but it was also predictable. The staff just needs the time to discover where to draw the line. I really had a good time at Field Training Maxwell 1, I wonder what Maxwell 5s will be saying?

I don't receive a stipend yet, but according to afrotc.com, AS300s receive $450/month, AS400s receive $500/month. If you're on scholarship, AS100 receive $300/month, AS200 receive $350/month. https://www.afrotc.com/scholarships/hsschol/types.php

Baby wipes are suggested to wipe your body clean in case you don't have time to shower. There is time scheduled each day for personal hygiene, but depending on your assigned leadership position you might choose to nix the shower to get some tasks accomplished.

You don't need to bring your own hangers. You will get issued wire hangers. Some cadets brought their own hangers to M1, and then chose to store their hangers in storage rather than use them. I'm not sure their reasons, but it could have been "standardization". It is tough to keep the pants leg flush to the waist on the wire hanger (it slides) but I didn't get any demerits for it.

Is this interview for scholarship or just to join the detachment? I don't know that ROTC will turn anyone away, so I wouldn't be nervous about the interview at all. Pilot selection will happen the Spring semester of your junior year. Join the detachment, get involved in extra curricular activities, have a high GPA, and score well on the fitness test will put you on the fast track to getting selected for pilot. As far as your hair goes, I personally wouldn't worry too much about it. If you want to cut your hair in regs, good for you. If not, just look professional. You'll need it in regs while you are in ROTC, but during the summer you're free to do what you want. If you want to know what it takes to get a pilot slot in ROTC, search for Order of Merit...it's the score used in ROTC to determine selection to pilot.

Hilarious usaf36031! The way I heard it is: Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane, but only a high school diploma to fix one. More humor involving pilot/mechanic (not the first time I've seen it, won't be the last, but I still laugh my ass off) P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement. S: Almost replaced left inside main tire. P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough. S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft. P: Something loose in cockpit S: Something tightened in cockpit P: Dead bugs on windshield. S: Live bugs on back-order. P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent. S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground. P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear. S: Evidence removed. P: DME volume unbelievably loud. S: DME volume set to more believable level. P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick. S: That's what friction locks are for. P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode. S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode. P: Suspected crack in windshield. S: Suspect you're right. P: Number 3 engine missing. S: Engine found on right wing after brief search P: Aircraft handles funny. S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious. P: Target radar hums. S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics. P: Mouse in cockpit. S: Cat installed. P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on things with a hammer. S: Took hammer away from midget.

Well I didn't post it outright because the sites I was using to download youtube seemed 'fishy', but I did some more searching and found a youtube downloader on download.com here https://www.download.com/YouTube-Downloader...4-10647340.html . It is pretty simple to use, have fun.

Found this in the commentary section, page 4, of Randolphs Feb. 29th Wingspread Issue. Written by a CMSgt. "There’s an old joke about regulations and how they apply to each branch of service. For the Army, unless the regulation specifically says you can do something, you can’t. For the Air Force, unless the regulation specifically says you can’t do it, you can. The Navy believes everything in their regulations is waiveable and the Marines ask, 'What are regulations?' " Wingspread might not be the legal document to argue your case, but it is entertaining and appropriate for this thread!

It is possible to download youtube videos. Google pointed me in the right direction, although it takes some work. I'd mail the file, but its 51 MB. If you want more specific directions, PM me. The video is definitely worth having on the harddrive though, it is hilarious!
