  1. On to a new weapon, does anyone here have a Springfield M1A Scout Squad? The civilian M14 with a 18" barrel. I am looking to buy a rifle in the near future and have had my eye on one of these for a long time. I do not want one of the SOCOM II or SOCOM 16. Too much proprietary stuff on it that has virtually nothing on the aftermarket and I can't slap on a 5 round mag and go hunting here in Idaho.

I am actually going tomorrow to look at a standard Springfield M1A tomorrow. I will see if they have any of the Scout Squad's there.

  2. Its apparently gotten to the point that the National Geographic Channel has created a series about Private Military Contractors. I caught a few minutes of an episode about a Dutch Company. Apparently they bought a surplus Rigid Hull Inflatable boat and damn near sunk it the first time they put it in the water!

That sounds a lot like an episode of "Whale Watchers" or whatever. Where they flipped one of those first time they tried launching it. Hippies aren't sailors.

  3. I think you misunderstood my post (check my location)

Chrome-Dome was all over anything Hap Arnold (uniform, wings, etc...). Now that he's been 'forceshaped', his uniform abomination joins the Air Admiral's jacket in the dumpster of history. Good riddance to both.

I am really happy that uniform got canned. Look at the officer...the pocket is so high up that his ribbon rack takes up majority of the room. He barely has space for wings...let alone if he was jump qualified or had an addition badge. Then his wings would be under his epaulette. And the AF doesn't need to waste more money on stupid uniform changes, more importantly.

  4. A warning about Illinois...I applied for my FOID about two months ago and I am still waiting...

This state sucks (except for the IVG and tax free stuff...but besides that it sucks).

  5. Weird. I am definitly no aero-engineer.

Wonder if this works on the same principle as vortex generators...Also interesting that they are using hydrodynamics as the base theory. We all now water doesn't flow like air. Look at the difference between a ships prop vs an airplanes for a reminder.

  6. Of course, it's complete hyperbole -- hell, actual C1 combat capable fighter squadrons could barely get to night 1 of a war in 48 hours...I can't imagine what the ORM would be for dudes who hadn't flown anything but fingertip formation for the last 6 months to go out and fly SAT in indian country.

But they would atleast look fabulous doing it.

  7. And I wonder what their BS logic is behind that rule?!?

I would rather pay for storage somewhere than to let the ham-fisted sky cops mess with any of my guns! And yes, I used to be one, so I know of what I speak!

    Cheers! M2

So you know for a fact that SF will shoot other people's guns? And this goes unnoticed by the first shirt, senior nco's, and the officers?!

  8. So I am getting pretty close to pulling the trigger (no pun intended) on an M1A/M14. But I will be in a dorm on base so thus have to check it in with SF...

So...how badly will they mess with it? I would like to try and leave a trigger lock on it so they can't shoot it. Is that possible? Any horror stories?

  9. How full up is the 35 supposed to be in 2012? I know they are operationally testing a number of jets but how fast and how many models are currently slated for the AF? I couldnt find a whole lot on this site.

Best numbers I have heard is the -35 is supposed to replace the F-16 AND A-10 1:1. Don't take this as holy writ.

This article threw around the number "3,000" but really who knows.
