  1. You are ranked based on the fiscal year you graduate. So if you are a 5 year guy, then you will be ranked with the class below you. As far as how it effects your ranking, it can go either way. In my graduating class, we had three 5 year guys. One guy was in the top 5 (good grades, involved, good attitude), and the other two were in the bottom for the exact opposite. It is all based on the individual.
  2. Yeah... but maybe if we didn't give out ribbons for everything, then we wouldn't have a thousand Mexican Generals running around with ribbon racks that look like the Crayola factory exploded.
  3. Well since we no longer take our BDUs to get starched and pressed, they got to find another way to get our money!
  4. I think this pretty much sums up the whole problem with the uniform.
  5. My Dad told me this one years back hopefully I remember it all. My Dad, who was a 1Lt at the time, was flying Harriers with several Captains and a Colonel and they landed on an Air Force base. They got out of the planes got them refueled and what not. After a short wait they headed back to the Harriers. Before they knew it some Airman with an M-16 was yelling at them to get on the ground. The Colonel wasn't too happy and the following is a direct quote directed towards said SF Airman. "If you point that F**ng gun at me, you had better F**ng shoot me you G** D*** Mother F***ng piece of S***, because if you don't I am going to take that gun from you and shove it up your F***ng A$$ and pull the F**ng trigger, you worthless piece of s***. I am going to my plane and I am going to take off, so I suggest you turn around and go back to where ever the F*** you came from." Not sure how the rest of the story went, but they didn't get arrested and they didn't get in any trouble. The SF Airman had to change his BDUs though...
  6. Honestly, the more I hear about U-28s the cooler it sounds. I am not sure how much of it is true, but I am sure it is a very worthwhile and rewarding mission.
  7. Kind of off topic, but I didn't want to start a new thread. As far as the regs for PT gear is concerned, is it allowed to wear a loose underarmour shirt with your AF pt shorts and no AF PT shirt? I could have sworn that in the uniform AFI it said the AF PTU was unregulated as far as mixing and matching uniform items. Thanks for the help.
  8. I had a buddy graduate in December, I graduated the next May and I still beat him on Active Duty. AFPC will forever remain a mystery...
  9. I think thats wonderful!!! Flight suits for everyone!!! While we are at it, I think that pilot wings should be given out as well to every career field after they finish their formal training. That way no one is left out and feels bad about themselves. We can't have that in the Air Force. We are all CYBER WARRIORS. Lets hand out a few more medals and maybe some Distinguished Flying Crosses while we are at it, whether you fly or not, it isn't fair to only give them to aircrew!
  10. Yeah... Doss went super security. No more public internet checklists or manuals. They are issuing computers now that are nothing more than over powered e-books. No more hard copies of ANYTHING. All manuals are on their intranet which can only be accessed from the Doss CPUs. You can't email attachments out of them to protect IP. You can't put thumb drives in them... oh yeah and no more student drive. No more sharing gouge electronically. Overall thought this seems like a pretty good program. But almost EVERYTHING has changed from 08 to 09-01.
  11. Yeah the first day sucked as well as the first two mornings you wake up. After that the shock factor is pretty much gone. They try and bring back the shock by doing some gay stuff, but it just really doesn't work. In fact, you might even laugh at their attempts, I did and got to talk to my "new" FTO about laughing in my room with my roommate. Ha ha good times.
  12. Don't they do the "Spouse taxi" at UPT? Isn't it an IP who usually does it too? "honest, it just took off, I didn't mean to"
  13. A lot of good advice above. I know what it feels like to be at the top then the bottom and then the top again so take it for what its worth. 1. I started off with a solid interview with my det (just like you), I got offered a Type I scholarship, on the spot, for a non-tech major because I did well in high school, athletics, good SAT scores, and I blew the "basketball throw" away. 2. Freshman year - got really discouraged, barely scraped by with a little over a 2.5 GPA, hated my major switched 5 times, had to beg a chemistry professor not to fail me, just enough to keep my scholarship (didn't get involved in ANYTHING ROTC related), I was just trying to stay a float. Ranked 29 out of 30. 3. Sophomore year - All the people who were in the top 5 (you know the ones who basically slept at the Det) they all got canned due to grades (one chick had a 0.9 GPA). After 3 semesters of straight A's brought my GPA up to a 3.6, starting to show up to the things that I could and improving my PFT, I went from 29 to 5 in my class. Even with a middle third rating at Field Training (woohoo!). 4. POC years - made it a point to just do the best at whatever job I got put in, Flight CC, Squadron CC, then Wing CC and then finally Finance and Acquisitions Officer. MOST IMPORTANTLY, STAYED OUT OF ALL THE OTHER RUMOR/BACKSTABBING BS that happens in a semi-competitive environment. Finished in the top two. Just remember a good appearance (short haircut helps), a respectful/can-do attitude and a few "yes sir/no sir" gets you a long way. Finally make friends with everyone, but keep a distance from those who are out for themselves or just to bring others down.
  14. Now if only some AF medals worked the same way!
  15. Same question was asked in my AS400 class. Its nothing official, so yes your grandfather can give you your first salute.
  16. Sorry had to post this story. A chick from my ROTC Det went up to the Detachment Commander and asked him if he would give her, her first salute... Did ya'll know O-6s salute 2nd Lts nowdays?
  17. Awesome. Thanks a million. So I guess there is nothing we can do before we get to ASBC? If not, it is no big deal, I can get my parents to keep our stuff in their garage for a month or so. Thanks again!
  18. Wow Kayla, thats good info. So if I am going straight from commissioning from ROTC (9 May) to ASBC (17 June) then it might be possible for me and my wife to move in early to my UPT (15 Nov) base? I run a dorm on campus and they will be kicking us out May 13, so I will be homeless. Dates: 9 May Commission 17 June ASBC 24 Aug IFS 13 Nov Sheppard, AFB, UPT
  19. So what I am getting is base housing for married guys is pretty crappy?
  20. I got one of those Academy appointments out of ROTC as a Junior... I turned it down when I realized they expected me to go to schools another 4 years. Thanks... but no thanks.
  21. Colorado Springs = Six Flags Over Jesus Seriously...
  22. FWIW, I totally agree that this guy got what he deserved, but why use a shotgun when a rifle will do the trick? I just feel bad for the rest of the people reciting the Airman's Creed. Toro and M2 are right, it definitely will fix the problem, and I bet it will be awhile before any of those Airmen mouth of to anyone. Thanks for answering so quickly.
  23. This guy needed to be dealt with, but did it call for a public "flogging"? I realize I don't know the whole situation, but is this typical in the AF?
