Wait, who put who at risk? The cops are always going to escalate. That's what they're paid for. All three of those guys have killed people. They didn't run because they thought they were getting busted for a minor drug charge. Don't be so naive.

Where do you see they killed people?

Fernandes Barbosa, of Deerfield Beach, was on felony probation for possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana. He was also facing two probation violations.

Reed, of Riviera Beach, is an 8-time convicted felon, whose last conviction was on Nov. 30, 2016, for burglary of an unoccupied dwelling in Martin County. He was also facing charges of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Montes, of Wellington, is a four-time convicted felon. He was born in South Carolina and was last convicted on Jan. 19, 2017, of willful fleeing and eluding in Palm Beach County.

Armed drug dealers? I think the murder-only threshold is too high.

Contrary to popular belief, people who have just broken traffic laws don't often flee a traffic stop like that.

I can happily engage with the idea that the terrible attempt at a pit maneuver should not have occurred, and the cops should have simply followed the suspects until they tired themselves out. Of course then if that truck had rammed into a bus full of orphans without police intervention, the police would still be blamed.

In almost every one of the videos I've watched, the expired tags are why the crook is pulled over, not why they subsequently flee. There's usually an associated warrant. Either way, hard for the cops to know at the moment.

My final thoughts are, pursue when absolutely necessary for the safety of the public.  Public safety overrides your desire to catch someone for speeding.  I know this is a double edge sword in regards to policies of no chasing probably leads to more runners.  I've seen plenty of straight idiots leading police on 5 county 110+ mph chases all for a simple traffic violation or minor warrant.  The folks who do this aren't smart criminals, they'll be caught very shortly, don't put my family or loved ones in danger to keep up with them at very high speeds in residential areas or busy highways.

If you're dead set on pursuing the runner, end it as quick as possible.  Don't chase them for 1/2 hour at high speeeds only to finally PIT them at the end.  More cops need training/permission to do so, otherwise, don't pursue unless aboslutely necesasry.

I appreciate cops.  Have a few good friends that are cops.  You couldn't pay me enough money to do what they have to do day in day out.  That said, they are human and have egos and there are a lot that shouldn't have a badge.   They don't engage their brain and take everything in prior to pursuing like in the above video.  Have seen a lot of departments that have 'don't chase unless' policies and they back off after getting the plate.  Half hour later they are found wherever because they are stupid and get arrested.

I'm not sure how you watched that and thought the cops were the idiots in the situation.

Cops are supposed to be the responsible ones here.  This isn't Nam'.

Do you thing those being chased simply shoplifted at a Walmart?

People don't get pursued like that unless they've committed a serious crime and are a threat to society.  It was proportional to the situation.

Had your family member been their victim, or would be a victim after the police let them get away, you'd feel a lot different about it!

The stupid ones are those that flee, not the cops chasing them!  It's their decision to endanger everyone on the road, not the police's.

In a lot of the situations yes.  Simple speeding/fleeing.  Shoplifting.  Expired tags.  I could direct you to about a thousand chase videos showing it.

So if its your daughter that gets plowed into by a cop, you're good with the result?  Got a dope head off the street for 24 hours.  Probably worth it.

  6. I've watched way too many pursuits on youtube.  Some of them are just plain stupid.  If you aren't chasing someone who killed someone, it ain't worth it.  Would you feel its justified if they (the cops) killed one of your family in the process to catch a shoplifter?  Most jurisdictions are getting much more regulated and back off if there aren't big time assholes being chased but shit still happens.

Also, watch the ending when the cops run up on the assholes.  50 different conflicting commands screamed by 3 different cops at two different people.  Watch a lot of 'cop debriefs' by cops and there and they say it all the time, it ain't worth it in most situations.

    Funny story time...

As I was getting close to retirement I was going through the evaluation process for a couple of claims.  Even though I live 25 minutes from a large VA hospital with all kinds of specialists, the VA in their infinite wisdom decided to send me three hours away to Biloxi to a contracted ENT doctor.

I was having some serious back issues which required injections under partial sedation and wouldn't you know the C&P exam was scheduled the same day as my back procedure.  Knowing you never want to skip a C&P exam I came up with a plan to do both.

The day arrived and luckily my back procedure was first thing in the morning...my wife took me to the hospital, they got me all doped up then crammed a few needles and meds into my discs and spine.  My wife was flying to DC that afternoon to help her parents and was going to cancel but when my two best friends heard Biloxi and they volunteered to "help" by taking me to the  exam...in reality they had a plan to turn it into a gambling trip.

One of them has a large SUV so they put a bunch of pillows and blankets in the back, tossed me in and took of for Biloxi.  I woke up a few hours later still out of it and asked how much longer.?..they were slow to reply..."we are not sure, we think we have the wrong address!"  I slowly sat up expecting to see a medical center and instead I was shocked to see we were driving through an industrial complex.  They was a towing company, a welding shop, a junkyard...all metal buildings.  We arrive at the address and it was a metal building with a dirt parking lot.

The Dr's name was on the door so I went inside and checked in.  They took my name and told me to have a seat.  I was still VERY groggy and when I looked around the waiting room it didn't make sense...right above me was Tweety Bird and Sylvester!!!!  I actually thought I was seeing things from the anesthesia.  I pulled out my phone and took the attached pictures to prove I wasn't crazy.  The waiting room furniture was best described as medieval with swords everywhere.  My buddies were waiting outside in the ruck so I texted them these pictures as proof, half expecting a trap door to open and drop me into a dungeon.

Eventually they called my name and I go back to the exam room which was even more weird.  The walls were completely covered in movie posters and there was a top shelf with all kinds of collectable toys...see video!  A short time later the Dr comes in and starts asking questions.  I had already done an audiology exam with a different provider and he was going through the results...finally he asks me "when you shoot your gun are you right or left handed?"  I was kind of taken aback so he said "you know, your rifle you carry in the service."  I replied - "Dr I am not an infantryman, I am a pilot."  He seemed confused then he said...."well what kind of airplane?"  I replied "AC-130 Gunships"...he looked at me for a second then he said "well what side of the airplane are the guns on?"  I replied the "left"...he looked at the paperwork and said...."well, that makes sense...exam complete."

He then spent the next 20 minutes telling me how he used to work in the VA hospital but was fired for speaking up...her game me a rundown of his manifesto, which he later emailed to me and send me on my way with validated hearing loss in my left ear and Tinnitus.

My buddies laughed all the way to the casino, then they dumped a bunch of booze on top of my anesthesia and we played craps and blackjack half the night.

I had a VERY similar experience with my vision appointments.  VERY shitty part of town, in a residential area, random house with basically a nicer shed where the garage used to be.  Walked inside and dude had all the latest and greatest eye gadgets.  Super nice guy who left the VA system for the same reasons as per him

lol great way to guarantee a zero

“In some cases, the VA doesn’t have all the evidence needed to make a rating decision, so the claim is deferred. A deferred VA claim means your claim was neither denied nor approved. Instead, it’s put on hold until you can submit sufficient evidence.

Simply put, the VA is telling you that the information you submitted with your claim is incomplete. They’re asking for more information from you to make a rating decision.”

Additionally, there is so much misinformation, disinformation, and out and out bullshit in this thread I would hope that anyone pursuing disability claims would search elsewhere for accurate info/guidance.

The Texas lawyer “guarantee” is a classic!

As for the OP, are you sure you’re not confusing the “combined ratings” table vs “adding up” your ratings. Pretty hard (nearly impossible) to get anywhere near an 100% rating with “ just a bunch of little aches and pains” Also, 100% rating in no way guarantee a P & T.

ex: one “large” rating like CPAP 50% plus another TEN 10% little aches and pains would only grant you a 80% rating.

Best advice you gave was start 2 (I would argue 5) yrs out from ret/sep.

Well, worked for me so mileage may vary

  13. I'm not worried about the fines.  Its a general decay in the company since I started with them back in 2003.  It was nice to have overseas for insurance and a military 'friendly' company.  Since then the products and customer service has plummeted.  If I can have my money in one location it makes it easier.

Thank you all for the info. Following up on JavaDocF16’s post, are you saying creatine supplementation should be avoided all-together or just during periods of intense training? All the studies I’ve seen have indicated it is safe and effective for standard strength training, would be curious if you have any studies with evidence to the contrary. Thanks in advance.

STELLAR TALENT ACQUISITION RECRUITING REFERRAL (STARR) Program

Air Force Recruiting Service (AFRS) is asking for your help in strengthening our force and wants to reward you for your efforts. The STARR program, governed by DAFMAN 36-2806 A2.14.1.6, was created to award medals to Airmen who refer someone to the Air Force who ships to basic training. In fact, if you refer just one person who ships to basic training, you are eligible for an AF Achievement medal. If you refer three who ship, you get two Achievement medals and if you refer five who ship you get an AF Commendation medal (no more than three medals can be awarded to one person). Since its inception in May 2023, 25 AF members have qualified for AF Achievement medals with the first recipient being an A1C that was one week out of technical training school. Imagine putting together a BTZ package, EPB push statement, or even going before a promotion board with a recently acquired Achievement medal. The STARR program is run through the Aim High App and there are just four easy steps to refer someone. 1) Download the app, 2) create an account (using your .mil email), 3) fill out prerequisites, 4) either you as the referrer can put in the person being referred’s information or you can send them a QR code (or link) to fill in that information for themselves (see picture below).

    Warning!  Old Guy rant!!

It took me two years as an A1C to earn my first AFAM where I was the Wing Airman of the Quarter for the largest tactical fighter wing in the USAF (81 TFW).  It took another 18 months as a SSgt to get my first AFCOM.

I know neither is an overly prestigious award, but at the time I felt my hard work and efforts were being recognized and I was proud to receive both!

Recruiters already get a ribbon, why not expand the criteria to get one of those to these individuals instead of watering down awards meant for duty performance?

    /Rant

Army straight pays their folks for them.  This is dumb.
