  1. School sounds awesome...just another hack at ASBC and SOS. All the while you get to lose all your quals while you’re at it.
  2. This is the best response. How many people get their info from google and don’t understand the true capes of most our fighter fleet? Edit: I assume you are fighter guy based on the “chaff” comment.
  3. Just want to open this forum up a bit since I just finished IFF, and I know that I tried to find info on IFF before I went. If anybody has questions about the current state of IFF hopefully others can answer here. I will say that my one piece of advice is that IFF isn't scary and shouldn't be looked at this way (although obviously I only have the reference from one squadron). I remember having this fear that IFF was going to be a washout program, and i isn't that. IFF teaches you how to be a wingman and the very, very, very basics of BFM. If anybody has questions please ask away.
  4. As someone that just went through IFF I would say it isn't really a washout program. The flying really isn't that difficult and the standards for BFM aren't tough. What they teach you is how to be a good/humble wingman. I have honestly only heard of two people that have hooked a ride for the actually flying, usually it's for something stupid like cross feeding or overflying bingo. It was nice to understand the BASICS of BFM, hard to teach anything relevant in an aircraft that can't fight vertically. As far as a breakdown I would have to say 20% BFM and 75% how to be a wingman (i.e. how a fighter squadron operates) and 5% washout program (just making sure that they don't kill themselves or someone else down the road). ....and to get back on the topic of the forum, we just had a brief about "future" of UPT. The are going to go back to everybody flies the same plane with some caveats; they are going to track at some point during phase 3 and the heavy guys will do more navigation rides and the fighter guys will have a longer syllabus with a concentration on formation. Curious what people think about this. I know several guys who just struggled to get through form in the T-6 and were just dying to get in the T-1 because they had no aspiration to get into fighters. That being said I found it much easier to fly formation in the 38 than the T-6.
  5. I think it's the change from Luke to Holloman that is causing the issues. Two of the guys in our squadron that were supposed to start in May at Holloman got their orders changed to Tuscon. Not surprising that the AFs plan isn't exactly working like they thought.
  6. Columbus 14-15 (7 Active): T-1: C-17 C-130J E-3 C-5 C-12 T-38: F-15C MC-130J
  7. CBM 14-14 T-38s F-15C A-10 AT-38/F-22 T-6
  8. Thanks for the responses, was really just trying to see why there was such a disparity in drops from base to base; I guess AFPC is just being AFPC. Couldn't agree more that there isn't a bad assignment. This isn't my first and I have plenty of friends who sit at a computer for 8 hours a day that would kill to get to fly anything.
  9. This is what I assumed, I just know that a lot of guys as Columbus have been bitching because other bases seem to get better drops and they are always pointing to how we do scoring for phase 3. I looked up the reg and it sounds like each base gets their assignments and it really is just the luck of the draw. Hopefully the end of the fiscal year is a good thing for me.
  10. So didn't find this anywhere else but am curious if anyone knows the answer to this question: Do T-38 (or T-1) compete against every other base for assignments? I only ask because I hear that the scoring is different between Columbus and other bases. At Columbus we grade phase 3 checkrides as upgrades, meaning a 12G (a good score for us) means that we got 12 Es on the whole gradesheet. This differs from our T-6 checkrides that downgrade, meaning a 12G is ok, everything but 12 are Es. I have heard that other bases do it the other way around (T-6 are upgrades and T-38s are downgrades). I am curious if we compete against every base if this is screwing us at Columbus because a good score for us might be pretty shitty elsewhere. Does anybody have knowledge on how this works?
  11. Perhaps a bit behind... 14-15 Track Select Columbus Active Duty 5 T-1s 2 T-38s 14-11 Assignment Night (only know 38s) F-16 Holloman AFB T-6 x2 RC-135 Offutt AFB Pretty Shitty
  12. If you haven't heard anything yet; I wouldn't worry about it. It took about 2-4 weeks to have my paperwork stamped, but if they didn't find anything at WPAFB then they won't find anything as it gets signed off. As far as the color test goes the laptop is a bit harder for me, and I have never failed a color test in my life. The laptop can be hard to see, but if you do end up failing that then there are two other tests they put you through. The first is the standard book test if you pass that then they will give you another test where you have to match colors (a sphere split into two halves). I know this because a buddy of mine was color blind and ended up passing the book test (mainly because he knew what he was looking for), during his appointment at WPAFB he failed the laptop test and then later failed the sphere test. This is the main reason they changed the test, you can study for the book, where as you can't study for the laptop test.
  13. I've been debating the same thing I'm sure....I have a back condition that requires a waiver, original flight doc "missed" it even after I posed a question about it. That being said I'm now going to MFS with the thought that I will need a waiver (luckily it shouldn't be a problem, considering I've never had pain associated with it). I will tell you my thoughts and you can make a decision: Yes you can take out the medical records so they won't see it, and yes you might be able to fly...but if they catch you and know you falsified the records I'm guessing your AF career is over. Secondly the way Tricare tries to get out of every bill, my guess would be that if you ever required medical help with an associated problem they will likely try not to cover it, saying that you are at fault for not disclosing it originally. In the long run I don't think it's worth it. If it's meant to be it will happen.
