  1. not sure what's worse... DTS, or PEX. Both are "all our eggs in one electronic basket", both are automated fixes for things that weren't broken, both are prone to long term outage, both are not remotely user friendly, both have steep learning curves, and both seem to be dominated by single-point-of-failure people who ensure job security by being the only person on base who knows the system and has the ability to fix problems, grand permissions, or any other "high level" task (and god help us all if that person is on leave, TDY, or dies in a random vending machine accident).

Yeah, I have had good luck till recently. I did an authorization...the travel agent here on base gave me an "itnenerary"...but just for the rental car, no plane tickets...then the Auth got stuck in "CTO Submit"....had my guys contact their guys, etc...the DTS folks said the travel agent had to do something on their end...actually called them, told me they did it, but the PC might take an hour or so to "cycle". Well, I was flying out Tuesday AM, and it was now after 1630 on Monday, still nothing. Went with the CC Verbal Auths, got my own plane tix, rental car, etc...I get back a few days later...STILL in CTO submit. I guess I will be calling the DTS folks back again after my mid. I think I am going to be doing an old school paper voucher since I got the "verbal" orders letter.

  2. Which one of those sounds like a liberal, big-government, status quo option?

Every word you type on every thread sounds like liberal big-government BS. But I admit maybe that is just to me.

Also remember, retirement @ 38 is not really retirement, it is more of a retainer...the Military can call you back whenever they want until (not 100& sure on the age)...till about 65...then it's retirement pay. Until then, they can call you back and if you say no...the retirement is gone.

Also, folks get paid extra for doing dangerous stuff...they get their basic salary for doing all the basic stuff that everyone does. Retirement is based off the basic stuff...you should not get retirement based off dangerous stuff you do 20 years ago...you get paid more for that while you do it....

  3. I received a email about two days ago that the air force is looking for about 55 soon to be LT's and 10 alternates from rotc to begin the new UAV pipeline which will then cease the pulling of pilots out of UPT completion.

That's what the newest pitch is? lol, tell your UPT bound buddies to not slack off just yet...they will be coming out of everywhere until the manning monster that is the as yet unnamed # of CAPs the Man wants gets satisfied...and that ain't for awhile.

Here is the only "fact" out there about RPA assignemnts...no one that comes and talks to you or sends you an email really knows anything about anything. It's not really their fault, but they don't, casue they don't know what they don't know, ya know?

  4. Anyone know if they will pay to let a single dude w/no kids get a vasectomy? Rumor is you have to have at least two kids, I call BS.

It all depends on the Doc. Not all Doctors are cool with you walking in and effectively saying, "Hey, my body is working perfectly, I would like you to break it simply because I don't want to be actually be held accountable for my actions".

Not that I necessarily think that way, but then again, I am not a Doctor. I could see where that would be arguably against the Hippocratic oath without some extenuating circumstances.

  5. Here's a tidbit that you might not know. Any Officer has the authority to apprehend you (Article 9 UCMJ) as an Enlisted person, and disrespect to a superior commissioned Officer (Article 89) is punitive article in the UCMJ. So keep that in mind when you're "correcting" someone who ultimately outranks you.

Totally agree. However, Art 9 covers arrest or confinement, a very different monster from apprehension, which is covered in the MCM, Rule 302, para b.1...Gotta get that one right...if you just arrest/detain/confine, you don't get to give that mo'fo' a full up search incident to apprehension, and then when all his kiddie porn falls out of his pockets while you are jacking them up, it's all inadmissible because you did it wrong!

God I wish I did not remember that, I would thunk that penguin fell off the iceberg long ago. Gonna have a few more drinks...try to force him off...

  6. The standard AF answer of "it depends" is the right answer. There are some sweet little trips out there to nice places, but the majority is to less than fun places...however, those less than fun places tend to be pretty fun/rewarding TDYs. The good deals are mostly reserved for folks that have paid their dues in the sq and are in jobs that facilitate those trips (eg...DOV/DOW/DOT/XP, etc...)

There are some awesome exchange opportunities on the horizon...but that is all talk right now. I think we will see it around 2012/13.

  7. Not quite relevant to the topic at hand.

Maybe not to this tread, but you are going to need to prepare a statement to the whatever spouses club you end up in. Well, let me re-phrase, it's your and your husband's business, so you don't NEED to tell them a damn thing. But if you choose that route, you are most likely going to be not well recieved.

Simple fact, the C-17 is a pretty sought after "reward" for doing well in the T-1 track...having a pointy nose guy come over is going to generate some questions. Ususaly pointy nose folks that transition to slower airplanes go to one of the ACC slow planes...AMC used to pretty much forbid that bridge crossing.

So, if you guys end up going to AMC, prepare for some questions. You don't need to answer them, but just be ready.

Good luck where ever you end up!

  8. With your name, I would head on down to the 9 Fine Irishmen in NY/NY. Also, I sugggest getting a 32oz 190 Octane w/ Extra shot, then go ride the rides on the Stratosphere. Hoffbrau House over by the Hard Rock, and Red Rock Park for some hiking, and Red Rock Resort for Cougar Hunting. There are a million things to do in that town...I kinda miss living there.

  9. By the way, you volunteered for drones to wash off your ISR stink? Let me know how that works out for you...

Ha, I was thinking the same thing! Thats like a whore retireing to Pattaya Beach to live the clean, better life where she can put the past behind her.

  10. Yep, kinda standard replies to the news, I don't expect people to get it, and I don't really care, we will be doing some interesting things here soon where SERE (well, not so much the "Survival and evasion" part, but the beatings parts etc...are very appropriate.

Glad to see some things never change on here. Crusty old dudes thinking they know their shit...about everything...and they do, sometimes, but sometimes, well, sometimes they are just crusty old dudes.

  11. Be that as it may, the blog in question here had 19 year old SF girls on it. Not to be sexist or 'ageist' but I don't think their skills equate to the Tier 1 assets, no matter what schools they attend. But back on point, the Deid is gay. Wait, I guess in light of DADT dissolving I should instead say "the Deid is a bastion of homosexual liberation and frolicking!"

True that, plus chicks can't attend most of the good schools anyway...you are not being sexist...

Really the Deid is so gay already that the DADT thing won't even be noticed.

  12. I really don't think a hostage situation on a military base would be handled by SF. I know some more qualified people pretty close by.

Can't speak for the "new guys"...but the EST I was on attended a bunch of civilian SWAT schools, covering everything from Hostage situations, dynamic entry, barricaded targets, you name it. I know some bases still send teams and individuals though those types of things. Don't let the random Airmen gate guards or new patrolmen getting their ears wet trick you into thinking all cops are from the same mold. (I mean, I don't think ALL F-15 guys suck dick...) There are AF Cops that have been though the very same training the "more qualified" people you referenced have been though.

  13. I wore mine for a roof stomp on Friday. The outgoing Minot Wing/CC thought it was hilarious.

Wait, didn't he just get shitcanned? Hell, a running kick in the nuts would be funny compared to that.

You probably could'a killed a puppy and he would have laughed.

  14. they're not going to be current in any airframe.

Except, of course, the airframe we are already current on.

If they go back to an aircraft, they'll just get re-qualed in it like they would if they had gone to a non-flying staff tour for 3 yrs.

Or, just like a C-130 person going to a C-17 after a few years, they get qualified on a new airframe.

I even take my IRC every year, and CRM, and have a 1042, and graduated SUPT ...holy sh!t, I'm a pilot.
