  1. So AFPC screwed up, no surprise, and gave quite a few of the 18x's only a 3 yr ADSC. We already have one Beta dude that has put in his separation paperwork, he'll be on terminal leave by next Oct. That's going to work out great for the numbers and morale when others start dropping paperwork or start demanding bonuses at a 3 yr point.

By quite a few...you mean some have different ones? That is classic.

  2. In that vein, word on the street is changes are coming to AMC's GRACC program that will require co-rockets to be secondary dutiless for the first six months after IQT. One can only hope.

Ha, AFSOC has had that policy for years....talk about written policies getting disregarded at the sq/og/wg level...

It will go strong for awhile, then someone will realize that someone didn't get their 1LT PRF DP recommendation because they didn't do enough "office" stuff for their records...

Actually had a paraphrased conversation with an E-8 a few years back, "Hey Capt, I need that guy to do be in charge of that thing. I said "No, he is brand new an inexperienced, there is that policy, ya know"...He said, "yeah, but nobody follows that one". I said, "didn't I just watch you correct someone for a random minor uniform infraction, that usually no one follows"? The conversation pretty much ended there.

  3. Does this really matter? Are the gubberment gestapo going to swoop out and bust you since you photocopied your gov ID so you could authenticate for Oakley's government employee program? No...

I'd be interested in seeing what other ways they decide to use to verify employment - an LES maybe?

It won't matter until you happen to be the owner of an ID that is used in some sort of foiled attempt to gain access to something..once the trail goes back to "well I just wanted some Oakley's"...well, nobody might care, God knows the USAF has a rich recent history of not having knee-jerk and overblown reactions to seemly minor infractions that everyone was doing anyway.

Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze, but that's just me.

  4. I think the practice of "wellness" as a lifestyle will help slow the rise of the costs of health care for the Air Force, but costs will continue to rise...along with personnel costs. Wellness means people live longer, which means benefits last longer, which means the Air Force will pay longer for those living longer (the other part of our personnel cost problem...hence the "retirement pay" debate). We've been doing this new PT thing for the past 8 years and costs keep rising...so saying AF PT is about cost savings is laughable to me.

lol, so wait, that means I should be able to sell to my CC the need for intense drinking and unhealthily eating/living and some good ol' fashioned smoke-ins.....If I can just make it till...say 50, the AF only has to pay out 10 years of retirement and then a piddly death bennie...I like it!

OK, I don't but that is just cause I want to meet my grandkids, but I am totally on board with the irony in trying to make us live longer, then say they can't afford it if we do!

People naturally respect, like him or not, a commander who they know will throw down in a crowded bar. I was lucky to have some great examples of that early in my career. Nothing sets the record straight and cages everyone's gyros like a smartass getting knocked on his ass by the boss. No one really cares how fast the boss can run 1.5 miles away from a fight.

    Just sayin'...

Totally agree. We can say we are warriors all day long, but our actions say we are Queep-monsters, well, then at the end of the day, we are....*sigh*.

I still have a warm fuzzy for the TSgt that threw me against the wall when I was an Amn, and I am not talking Penn State style here, it was a legit military learning event...I never forgot it, and improved pretty much on the spot and forever.

  5. Flame on...

You won't hear anything from me. I think the USAF needs to take a good hard look at itself and really see if Physical fitness is the drop dead drag out fight that it really wants to make it. Ironically, most folks I know in the AF, if in an actual knock down drag out fight...would get crushed. But that is besides the point.

Meet a basic standard in BMTS to get in the door, Let AFSCs set their own standards, and test each other with a test that is appropriate to their job, and let the CC (my vote would be Wg/CC, not sq), simply have the authority to say, "Hey, you look like shit, get to not looking like shit like yesterday, or I will crush you".

Maybe ruck marches for cops, box of copier paper carry for MPF, case of beer carry for co-pilots, you know let it make sense. Won't ever happen.

  6. Is it the new unit that did it? Or are you at a better base? I can't imagine moving from Creech to Cannon would have a significantly positive effect on morale.

See below for the accurate move plan.

Cannon to Whiteman would help, though.

Hells yeah it did! LOVE it here.

  7. That whole program was a FW&A issue. There is what was on paper, and what was really going on. When the 3 SOS was still at Nellis, we had MX dudes that were assigned to us, and MX dudes that were assigned to Creech, but literally worked at Nellis for over a year...NEVER going up to Creech. Creech MX dudes, got the pay, Nellis guys, nope. Also, the cops that worked up there (for longer, even more boring shifts I might add) Never saw a dime of that debacle of a program either. Cause they were not "assigned" to the 432.

Ironically, I am now in the 432...but for some reason, I don't get it. So I guess it is not just as simple as being assigned to that unit, and in fact, it is a location pay.

I still am hoping for my $100k a year RPA bonus. It was never promised, but when the AFSOC A1 asked what it would take to keep me in past my commitment, I said "$100k bonus after taxes, per year, you got me till I die". He said that was unrealistic and never going to happen, and I said, "I know, that's why I plan on retiring, but you didn't ask me what is feasible, you asked what would keep me in past my commitment"

Although, I may very well stay in a little while past 20, I had no idea that simple PCS doing the exact same job could have such positive affect on my morale.

  8. AFSOC or ACC MQ-9?

Any feedback helping to distinguish between AFSOC and ACC would be greatly appreciated.

You can be in an ACC sq, flying for the EXACT same customer, doing the the EXACT same job, but not have to live @ Cannon. If being 6 hrs vs 12 hours to home is that big a deal, fair enough, but you better be making that drive every single weekend (if, in fact you have one of those) to make that worth it.

Not even a close decision in my book. But then again, that's just my book, and some folks don't like the stories in there!

  9. Panetta: Any retirement changes won't affect serving military

"People who have come into the service, who have put their lives on the line, who have been deployed to the war zones, who fought for this country, who have been promised certain benefits for that -- I'm not going to break faith with what's been promised to them," Panetta said

That just means he will be replaced with someone who will be willing to break that faith.

Good on him for standing up through, and I hope there is no one to fulfill my overly cynical prophesy. I just went over 18yrs... I am too close for this type of madness!

  10. Mandatory attendance at a chief's panel tonight ( three chiefs mentoring ~150 studs), and somebody asked about Friday shirts, follow up question was about heritage and the ways the air force is killing it. Answers included "The color t-shirt you wear should have nothing to do with morale" and "I don't see how the color of the t-shirt you wear has anything to do with heritage" as well as "well all the younger airmen look up to you, and they see you wearing stuff and they want to do it too".

Follow up question/statement should have been "Well then Chief, you are obviously so far gone and separated from reality, that I think you need to be mentored by us, not the other way around". Then a nice little walk out should have ensued. (well, depends on the audience vs Panel rank wise I suppose)

  11. Hurlburt Field preferred for MQ-1 remote split-operation unit.

Wow, I almost can't believe this. Is the AF finally getting the idea that you can put control stations at non-shitty bases and have them operate UAVs physically based in other locations?

Yet another good deal for reserve bubbas...come on down and enjoy the emerald coast.

Yeah, this has been in the works forever, ACC has wanted the 2 SOS out of the CAOC-N's backyard for years, it's just the lease is finally up. This is not additive, it's simply moving an AFSOC reserve unit to an AFSOC location.

I think they are going to loose some folks in the move, but they will get others to take their spot.

  12. Remember, Hitler was elected to office, too. 'Emergency powers' made him chancellor.

    This.

    Might be a new record.

I don't know, that Wiki site specifically says that it does not count as that law if the topic at hand is a topic traditionally "Nazi" in nature anyway. The connection between Nazis and Muslims over the decades is well known and documented. I don't think it counts.

  13. As I'm planning on getting out at the 10 year commitment, what happens if I decline to go in residence?

If you are me, you still get a DP to O-4 and move merrily along your career. I suppose it may mean I don't get 2 below to LtCol, but like you said, I know I am done before that really matters, so why go to that crap?

Just remember though...once you make your bed, you better be ready to lay in it!

  14. It is nice though, if you own your own trailer, you get to count the total weight of the filled trailer for your weight. (eg, I went and weighted my SUV all empty, then after I filled it with stuff, loaded up the trailer, then I weighed it all together. Paid for the trailer like 3xs over.

There are some other little restrictions on the size of said trailer...but it sure did make it nice!

  15. This. From the guy who told me he outranked me when we were both Captains because he was an O3-E. Not that's there's anything wrong with that... :)

lol, I can only imagine this was a DOR conversation or that I actually said "I am better than you because I am me". Rank has nothing to do with that, but I can see where the misunderstanding could happen.
