  1. My.02 I don't understand what is wrong? Is it Playboy magazine?? I'd think thats better than Penthouse or Hustler. We can have two star GO's go for years committing sexual misconduct and only get reduced in rank to O-6 and retirement. Now we are going to spend valuable $$$'s dollars on investigation for what?? Posing in a magazine. If the young SSgt completed all required paperwork for off duty work; where is the rub?? If not then lets use UCMJ to the fullest. Does the AF realize that the more they do to publicize the photo shoot thay are furthering her future career?? Excellent.
  2. M2, None. Just force projection into the sea of sand. Bender, Nice Rhetorical question.
  3. Rotor, Thanks for the mentoring. I hope the slideshow has the fixed the problem. I'd bring in all the parents and repeat the slideshow. Granted some will gripe and complain. They are the ones who need to understand the reason why!! Eeyore
  4. The Four most important medals are the Medal of Honor, Purple Heart, Armed Forcese Expenditionary Medal and Armed Forces Service Medal. You are thinking What?? Well when one is applying for future Civil service jobs. These are the ones that add points to your score. All the DFC, DMSM, AM do not add to the point score. I agree the AF hands out ribbons and medals like candy. As for the Space Ranger; HerkDerka has a shack.
  5. My .02. Lets face it that AFSOC desires a special niche of aircraft to accomplish several missions. The CV-22 is not the complete answer. Why did the AF chose HH-47 for CSAR?? I believe that in a decade AFSOC will only be AC-130s and Talon II's. We the nation and AF will lose several CV-22's attempting to do the mission just prove we can.
  6. Well I think that the S-92 is the winner. Just because of political reasons. Remember that US101 helps the New york area out as well a Sen Clinton. Army is going to purchase more 47's for losses in OIF/OEF. Additionally, Sikorsky has history on its side for CSAR. Whatever aircraft is picked, I'll wager the AF will add more unique equipment to the aircraft and it will once again either be under powered or cubed out internal space wise. As for the Huey's in Space they do not want to pay the infrastructure price for new CSAR-X. They also won't take the best remaining H-60's and replace the 185 tanks with 200 gal tank and remove the probe. They will continue to waffle like the last past 15 years. Additionally, with the closure of Fairchild in Sep of 07; AETC will not jump on huey replacement bandwagon either. So the stateside unit will still be flyin the N's for a while. Just my .02.
  7. Clearhot shacked the info. The HARM stops tracking after gaining 195 "Gate" months. Also remember as you pass 22yrs AD time with 144 or more gate months your flight pay begins the downward spiral and each year after you get less and less.

    Hueys

Yes, you sure can; if you do not desire H-53/H-60. A few drawbacks are 1. assigned to AFSPC the most nontactical flying in USAF though efforts are under way to change the Missile mind set(RISK ADVERSE). 2. Limit potential for advancement staying Hueys and in one command. 3. Limited CC/DO positions with only 4 squadrons to choose from. 4. Limited to no deployments which are now tracked on promotion boards which could impact advancement. Hey, if you are willing to accept these factors then press on. I've certainly enjoyed both weapons system during my 25 + years. EE
  9. I'd rather be a MX officer fixing aircraft and wathing them fly than wear SPWINGS. At least you are supporting the warfighter and not paying lipservice in a bag thinking you are an OPERATER. Is that a telphone operator or computer operator. Remember they are operating in SPACE and most of the SPACE is between their ears! Yes, you never know when the DELL computer will catch fire and you must complete the Boldface of Control Alt Delete in the correct order. Rant off
  10. As we know carnivores seek out to kill their prey and conversely the herbivores just graze into carnivores domain leaving just their stool. Carnivores by nature strike back and inflict limited pain on the herbivores. However, lose the fight for lack of numbers. Yes, the grazing herd of herbivores has forced the large carnivores into the tar pit.
  11. Words of advice from an old cranium. You must never trust the words from anyone in personnel. In a matters of weeks to months policy can change. So to cover all bases complete PME either way and get masters degree. Remember YOU are filling the square.
  12. Toro, Yes, total stool for the young men who served in Iraq to not get an award. AF awards are based on rank and location and not necessarily merit. I can only surmise that a 1 day pass was seemed as not PC for the Airman who cleaned up after holiday event. Reminds me of a 1st Lt receiving oakleaf cluster to Joint Achievemet Award for handling baggage for a NATO conference here in CSprings. Did the officer in change of hoiday cleanup get an MSM or LOM? We lack LEADERSHIP willing to lead and set the example.
  13. Noticed missing Emmerson Niztits
  14. I could not top most of the fixwinged folks but FL15.5 in UH-1N and FL16.5 in MH-60G. Yes, for those of us that fly helo's this is quite nerve racking being almost able to count the blades as they flyby.
  15. Yes, it does happen sometimes though not the norm. The WX is the biggest factor for extending the course. The school sometimes will also cut short the field portion due too WX, a long shoot though. The school wants all the students to have the max amount of training since this is the only real chance to practice SERE skills unless the world has turned to sh*t and you are actually on the ground evading. EE
  16. This is the advanced SERE course commonly known as advanced beating school. The course goes into greater detail in teaching resistance techniques needed for those who may have information concerned more critical and their mission puts them in greater chance of capture. EE
  17. Well I've been stationed there twice and most of the post are accurate. South is bad and with flying plenty of nights stay on major roads i.e San Pedro Tramway etc. Most of the major arterys run north south or east west. Sking okay at Sandia peak if they get snow, better in Santa Fe Taos. Good wine in local area to sample. Plenty of hiking/bike trails. Visit "old town" and the market square in Santa FE. Nice jewelry just be cautious if muying off the street. Ballon Feista nice to visit, pay the $'s to ride bus to launch site. Driving their quite a thrill just remember red means go for several seconds after you get a green light. If it snows in the city they still drive 60+ with no matter the road conditions. Your insurance will go up, cause most folks are uninsured. Also, driving and drinking go hand in hand. I remember COPS the show got enough video on two weekends for several shows. Most Saturdays/Sundays fairground has large flea market. a Most is drive or ride up to the Jemez mountains and see the natural soda dam/ ot springs. Just watch out for the rainbow folks. Climate is dry so lip balm and lotion a must. If you need more info you can pm me. EE

  19. I have a St Micheals pendant given to me after graduation from UPT-H. I still carry it in flight suit pocket now for 20+ years. A nice touch. A gift that envokes a special memory i.e. hummer, pendant, wings etc. EE
  20. I think some "special attention" is not in jail for 7.5 to 30 years while we feed them and let them watch tv and lift weights, but a tour in Iraq and their chance to clear houses or ride shotgun on a convoy.
  21. gabe2surf, You can fix the guns forward and have the FE/MG fire the weapon the pilots can not on AF HH-60. When AFSOC had first had H-60s they were list as MH-60G's. When Air Rescue was stood up within ACC they were redesignated HH-60G and has remained as such when AFSOC took back Air Rescue role. The Army (SOAR) has MH-60,MH-47 and MH-6. Rotorhead or heloguy chime in if I'm incorrect.
  22. Heloguy, I know that the AF has had forward firing weapons capability on All of it's helo's while I've been on active duty. The issue you might be thinking of is in the 80's the army wanted to take all rotorwing assests from AF. This was Initiative 17. The Amry's thoguht process was since the AF would not give up A-10's for CAS therefore since the Army would take over all rotarywing from AF. The Army lost. Now at one point the AFSOC MH-60's (Late 80's) had the capability with ETS/ESSS to carry rockets/20mm gunpod. When SOCOM and TF160th (oldname) heard of this and that MH-60's could carry more and escort the Paves they would not allow AF to usurp Little Birds role. So yes, to a on SOF helos no forward firing weapons. Having flown both Huey gunships and help test some of the gun system on MH-60. Enjoy the chance to fire fixed forward.
  23. The folks at AFSPC HQ are attempting to get the Hueys armed for convoy and secuity sweeps. Currently, the aircrew is armed with sidearms and if a SF (Security Forces) are available they might be onboard. You must understand the helo folks are aggressively pursueing crewserved weapons. You wonder why arming Huey now and not in the past? Well the non operating folks ie (Conheads) figure since noone group or anybody tried to steal a nuke, why arm the helo!! This attitude is slowly changing after the events of 9/11. This is why the aircraft are having FLIr installed and hopefully armed. The mindset of AFSPC is and this is my Quote" The T-handle is illuminated and what should we do?? Oh, first lets schedule a meeting to discuss whether we approach the O-6 secretary to schedule a meeting to discuss the T handle illumination and proper course of action". In the mean time the other engine has caught fire and what do you do with consecutive engine fires!! Autorotate of course. Rotorhead, chime in if I missed anything.
  24. Most assignments to Hurlburt are second and three tour. The folks at 6 SOS spend plenty of time overseas TDY and they need seasoned folks with a solid Tactical background. This makes it harder for "N" model bubba to crack the nut from Andrews/Space. Eglin better shot at second tour than first. Eglin does some unique work with the fighters on the range for testing and not a place for newbie right off the bat.
  25. Yes, Huey units fly Nogs. It has been a slow painful progress to get this accomplished in AFSPC. This has occurred within last few years. AFSPC has recently begun procuring FLIR for their units. Andrews flies Nogs but in the DC area is like flying with 50% or better illum. They do not have FLIR. AFSPC has slowed the civilian SAR work since 9/11. Fairchild (Survival School) still does plenty of civilian SAR. Normal mission at FE/Minot/Malstrom is security sweeps, convoy support, and crew/Mx support to the LFs. Vandy security sweeps, range fire support, civil SAR. These places are a great place to build time and experience in "N", but some folks transitioning to H-60/H-53 are a little overwhelmed with mission management. Currently, very limited opportunity to transition to H-60/H-53 only four slots a year. This is cause of GPGL and producing 50 helo folks an year with roughly 30-35 going to Hueys rest split between H-60/H-53. hope this helps answer questions.
