  1. Deid runs for all my airlift friends!
  2. Ok, I'll ask the stupid question... If I understand correctly, the 750hr requirement for military starts after the regs change this summer. If I take the written 1 Aug, will I be grandfathered into the 1500hr requirement since I didn't do the newly required sim/ground school that was supposed to be done in order to take the written? BTW, thanks guys for all the good info.
  3. After searching, couldn't find this answer... Is there anything that prohibits you from taking the ATP written prior to achieving 1500 hours? I'm going to be really close to 1500 by July, but I thought I'd check.
  4. https://medium.com/war-is-boring/ff4662469f95 Ambiguous strategic effect? I'm going to go out on a limb and say the bombing of Honshu (Japan's main island) and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had a very large strategic effect...as in ending WWII. A short google search shows that this guy has written numerous papers about the Navy. (http://www.uky.edu/~rmfarl2/Farleycv.htm) Including "The Future of US Naval Power" (is that bias I smell?)
  5. What a terrible week. Here's a toast...
  6. It doesn't take as much as some may think to throw CG out of limits. The center of gravity on a herk has to be kept within a very small range (a couple feet) or it's out of CG. Can't imagine a couple 40K lbs vehicles moving to the back of the plane.
  7. Tailwinds to you gentlemen...
  8. If you're an ROTC guy (I assume you are), then you are SOL. The only thing that could possibly move up your EAD would be if you got orders to go to IFS earlier. In this budget environment, there is no reason for the AF to bring you on active duty right away so that you can sit at your UPT base for 6-12 months until your class starts.
  9. Apparently the last mile was dedicated to the victims of Newtown (the families were in the grandstands) What a tragedy.
  10. Thoughts and prayers to the family. What a tragedy.
  11. This is great! I've known many airwomen who have suffered in silence for too long!
  12. It's always pilot error...even for the UAV guys http://www.rgj.com/viewart/20130409/NEWS07/304090054/Air-Force-Series-errors-led-NV-drone-crash edit to add link
  13. 2 Bands and a drill team, but they couldn't get the guy who watched me pee in a cup last week?
  14. I hear you...most of us would love to throat punch the guy who thinks it's a good idea to lase an aircraft. However, our legal system is not based on the "let's make an example out of this clown" construct.
  15. In the barn? I'd say she's already been taken to the glue factory.
  16. Way inflated (either that or I need to adjust my OPR)
  17. There is a very thin line between making an example of someone and setting a precedent
  18. How many planes have been brought down by lasers? Not saying it wasn't dangerous/stupid...but does this guy really need to spend 2 1/2 years in our overcrowded prisons thinking about what he did?
  19. Ah yes, Operation "DENY CHRISTMAS" 2010...I remember that bravo alert well...
  20. I've been lased...it sucks. (worst part is the Nav was looking out the right window and his direct quote was "Holy shit" so you can guess what we all did next) Having said that, unless this guy had a prior record or there were some extenuating circumstances, sending a 19 year old to federal prison for 2 1/2 years is excessive. That's about equal to a first time charge of drug possession with the intent to distribute. (not a druggie, just studied law for my BA and MS) Was it dumb? Yes. I think a good 6 months in a Federal PMITA prison would be fair, not to mention the "convicted felon" tag he gets to lug around the rest of his life.
