Video gamer hunts down, stabs man who killed his online 'Counter-Strike' character

Watch out who you kill in the virtual world, it may inspire someone to attack you in the real one.

That's what happened to one Frenchman, who was stabbed and nearly killed by a fellow "Counter-Strike" player, according to London's Telegraph.

Julien Barreaux reportedly spent six months looking for the person who killed his online character in a virtual knife fight, and eventually found the foe living only a few miles away in Cambrai, a town about 2 hours north of Paris.

The 20-year-old, armed with a real-life kitchen knife, went to the man's house and brutally stabbed him in the chest. The victim, identified only as Mikhael, survived the assault after the blade missed his heart by less than an inch.

"Barreaux was arrested within the hour and told us he had wanted to see his rival wiped out for killing off his character," a police officer testified at the trial, the Telegraph reported.

The overzealous video gamer will spend two years behind bars, and receive anger management therapy.

"You are a menace to society," Judge Alexiane Potel said. "I am frankly terrified of the disproportionate reaction you could have if someone looked at you the wrong way in the street."

  3. Lowe's military discount now year-round

Most members of the military community no longer will have to wait for a special holiday discount to buy shovels, paint, and other home improvement needs.Home improvement retailer Lowe's has expanded its 10 percent military discount to all day, everyday, for active-duty, National Guard and reserve, retiree and disabled service members, and their families, company officials announced Wednesday.

Those who want to receive the discount must present a valid military ID card.

All other military veterans will receive the 10 percent discount on the holiday weekends of Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day.

The discount is available on in-stock and special-order purchases of up to $5,000. It cannot be used on sales at Lowes.com, on previous sales, or on sales of services or gift cards.

"Lowe's was founded on the heels of World War II by veterans Jim Lowe and Carl Buchan and has always been a supporter of the military," said Larry D. Stone, Lowe's president and chief operating officer, in a statement announcing the new policy.

"The year-round discount program is one way we are reaffirming our commitment to the thousands of men and women who are serving throughout the world, as well as their family members at home."

  5. Those pretentious "genius" f*cks at the Apple store have made me seriously consider murder on more than one occasion, but that iPhone is one helluva great phone. So, despite my deep seeded hatred of Apple, I am considering a switch to the Holy iPhone. For you current iPhone owners who switched from a Blackberry, is there anything you miss about the BB, anything it did better, etc. and if so how much do you really miss it?

  6. I think most of the mountains in Lake Tahoe area offer discounts...

Alpine Meadows and Homewood are also free for Military. Get your ticket at the "Special Tickets" window (I think that's what it's called) inside the lodge. Sundays are free for mil at Northstar and Sierra-at-Tahoe. Mt. Rose has discounted tickets, but you have to get the vouchers from MWR/ITT on base before you go. I hear Heavenly has discounts for mil, but I think you have to contact the ticket office beforehand.

Also, check this out if you need a place to stay on the North Shore: http://uscglaketahoeaframes.com/

I haven't used them myself, but they look like they're worth checking into.

  7. I've been at BAF for a month now and I have yet to wear my reflective belt. Neither has anyone else in my squadron for that matter. In fact, I don't even know where mine is right now. Maybe it's the calm before the storm, but it doesn't seem to be an issue here at the moment.

  8. 8000+ members and growing!

Leadership has taken note, although I fear they may completely misunderstand the underlying reasons people have joined the group. Keep up the fight, folks. Take the time to post comments on blogs and/or send e-mails to journalists who miss the point!

  9. Roll your eyes if you want but at the end of a long flight when you know what horrors await you at the Deid it's the little things in life that give you joy, things like throwing the stick to the stop and rolling to 60 degrees in something the size of a Denny's. Puts a smile on my face every time. Thanks for the

I was going to make a joke about a "Grand Slam," but I'll let it slide...oops, my bad. I just can't help myself!:drinking:

    Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew that Baseops was a powerful monster, had no idea that it could triple the group membership in less than 48 hours. Please continue to send this group along to all your friends. :salut::beer::salut:

It just sounded like he needed a hand putting 2+2 together.

  11. Not to derail the lively reflective belt discussion, but....

ON WHAT F*CKING PLANET IS IT ACCEPTABLE TO REQUIRE A TRANSIENT AIRCREW TO SPEND 45-60 MINUTES PROCESSING THOUGH CUSTOMS JUST TO WE CAN WALK OVER TO BASE OPS TO FILE A GODDAMN FLIGHT PLAN!?!?!?!

Fortunately TA was very helpful and kept us from having to endure the pain. Still, at some point someone needs to tell the Qataris to f*ck off.
