  1. Our base compiled a list of our contributions to various missions since our last ORI, forwarded it to the AMC/IG and a few months later they came back with a pretty flattering letter saying, "you guys have busted your ass...ORI is now 4 hours, etc etc".

This whole process was brought up during a recent AMC/CC visit where he asked, "Didn't you get ORI credit for your ONE/OIF/OEF/OND/OUP work?". So we asked for credit and got it.

    That's awesome, congrats.

  2. Our (AMC) ORI is in March and we just received almost 100% credit for it based on our real world contributions since our last ORI in 08.

What was a fly-away ORE this month and a fly-away ORI in March has been turned into a 4 hour ATSO Rodeo with <100 players base wide. Talked with the CV last week about it, and he estimated over $2 mil in savings.

    Winning!

Seriously? Our ORI is in June and, as far as I know, we're still full up with fly-away ORE and ORI. How the hell did you guys score that deal?

  3. I'll endorse the kit from Northern Brewer, too. I started with that one and it worked great. I still use most of the components from it even though I've been brewing for a few years now. A lot of places are starting to have their own local homebrew stores open up, too (those of you at Beale have had one open up in Roseville in the last year). You might check to see if there's one near your house and wait to buy until you can check out what they have.

And '2' to everything day man suggested. Especially the StarSan.

  4. The Glock or XD would be a good, less expensive choice; but all are great guns. For those two, you'll have to determine which feels better to you; the XD has a 1911-like grip angle whereas the Glock requires some bending of the wrist. I was a big Glock fan until I held a XD nearly seven years ago, at which point I much prefer it.

    2. I bought my XD40 at about the same time for exactly the same reasons (before the .45 version was available & never felt compelled to trade up once it was). Grip angle is what sold me, it just felt more comfortable to shoot than the Glock.

  5. Given the types of "combat" the USAF has been engaged in for the last 6-9 years, I think there is still quite a ways to go. Most leaders in the flying community are trying to duel each other for who can make the most conservative decision "just to be safe".

Until we are in a situation where taking that conservative answer actually costs troops lives, the pendulum will continue to swing toward total risk aversion.

I don't know, I've done some short notice drops to far flung FOBs because the grunts were running out of food & ammo in a hurry. I don't know how low they actually were on supplies, but if they were depending on my bundles to keep them in the fight, and I called a no-drop and RTB'd, I could imagine a not-unlikely scenario in the current fight where my no-drop led to a loss of life because they ran out of firepower. I just don't think it's too hard to get into a situation like that in the environment the ground forces are operating in right now. All it takes is one guy worrying about being the next Jared and waving off.

  6. What's sad is things like this are going to start affecting people's decision making downrange. All this fiasco is going to do, regardless of the outcome, is make people even more spring loaded to call a "no-drop" whether in training or in the combat zone. Maybe that's OK most of the time, but there will come a time when it could have a negative impact on the mission when it didn't have to come to that. We're in the business of war and people will get hurt, there's no way around that. How far will the risk-averse pendulum swing?

  7. In addition to NoScript use the RequestPolicy extension for Firefox. It's like NoScript with the option to allow/disallow requests of any kind that aren't directed at the current web page. For example, if DoubleClick has a pixel bug on facebook.com, visiting facebook.com with the extension enabled will not load anything from doubleclick.net, google-analytics.com, etc. and will flag it for you to allow/disallow. NoScript, RequestPolicy, and BetterPrivacy (to block/delete Flash cookies) should take care of 90.69% of the stuff that's out there.

Can anyone suggest equivalent extensions for Chrome?
