  1. Those look like 5000# straps on the top pic. It looks like there are at least 6 on the front alone, at least another 4-8 down each side, & who knows how many on the aft end. I'm no loadmaster, but that actually looks fairly adequate to me. I agree that chains would be better (and would make me a whole lot less nervous), but the number of chains required for 5 MRAPs would add quite a bit of weight. Good point.
  2. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, this may or may not have any relevance, but here is a blog post by a former charter loadmaster. It is, if nothing else, an interesting read. The High Risk Job of a Military Charter Loadmaster
  3. Same feeling I had watching the video of the C-17 in Alaska. I didn't like that feeling either time.
  4. Video of the crash from a dashcam is up now on liveleak.com. It is not easy to watch. ETA: Looking at the video, all of the eyewitness accounts I've read were spot on. Looks like load shift could be the culprit. Those poor guys had way too much time to realize what was about to happen to them. So sad.
  5. http://theloadstar.co.uk/breaking-news-national-air-cargo-crash-at-bagram/ This article echoes Huey's comments, but the most chilling part is the description at the bottom from one of the commenters who apparently witnessed the accident:
  6. I saw Hueypilot's post about this in the MC-12 thread, but in the interest of separating the two incidents I'm starting a new thread. Crash: National Air Cargo B744 at Bagram on April 29, 2013, aircraft lost height shortly after takeoff... Godspeed brothers.
  7. Just some local news douche who fancies himself as the next Bob Woodward.
  8. Several people that I regularly run with have already registered for upcoming marathons in order to qualify for Boston next year, for no other reason than to show that the bastards who did this will not succeed in ruining the event. The security will be tighter, but you can bet the runners won't be deterred.
  9. Sounds like someone is sensitive about their disability.
  10. UPDATE: YouTube embedding has been simplified, see DFRESH's post below for details. Is this you when you when you try to embed YouTube videos in your posts? If so, see below. 1) In order for the video to actually show up instead of just a link, you must use a properly formatted address inside the "media" tags. This is the right way (without the spaces, of course): [ media ] http :// www. youtube .com/ watch?v= N5EaSFsDvEg [ /media ] If you try to embed with any variation of the address other than the one shown above, it won't work. The key is the part in red. You have to enter the full YouTube domain name, not a shortened one like "youtu.be.com." Leave out anything that comes between the "?" and "v=" 2) If the address you are trying to embed with looks similar to any of the following, simply reformat the address as shown above by deleting the parts in blue and keeping the rest. If you see a "&" anywhere in the address, that's your clue to edit: http :// www. youtube .com /watch? feature=player_profilepage& v= dgDlV0f6lx4 (<---note where the "v=" is) http :// www. youtube .com /watch?v= YmXvQqEcJZ8 &feature=youtu.be 3) Video ID's are composed of upper and lower case alphanumeric characters and may also have hyphens or underscores. Simply place the video ID after the "=" and you are good to go. Examples: 3iNBbrV6-CM s_8iItIGi28 dQw4w9WgXcQ
  11. Are you two in third grade? Jesus fucking Christ.
  12. Paper, rock, scissors, it doesn't matter. None of them are great, you're there to learn, that's it. You'll find things to do in your limited free time wherever you are. Take the one the AF gives you.
  13. I'm well aware of all of that, my point was that some unit or combination of units is/are still losing 10 airplanes in the redistribution. Who drew the short straw(s)?
  14. "Finally, in addition to the aircraft allocated to units affected by president's 2013 budget, the Air Force also added aircraft to enhance mission effectiveness. The following aircraft will also be back-up aircraft: - Two aircraft to 22nd Air Force Det. 1, Little Rock AFB - One aircraft to 19th Airlift Wing, Little Rock AFB - One aircraft to 152nd Airlift Wing, Reno, Nev. - One aircraft to 165th Airlift Wing, Savannah, Ga. - One aircraft to 166th Airlift Wing, New Castle, Del. - One aircraft to 182nd Airlift Wing, Peoria, Ill. - Two aircraft to 189th Airlift Wing, Little Rock AFB - One aircraft to 302nd Airlift Wing, Colorado Springs, Colo. " So where are these 10 tails coming from?
