  1. Best thing would be to give them a call We have two former Hornet dudes in my squadron. The key is to get in the system so call as many units as you can.
  2. Congrats... I was going to recommend a Rubicon. What kind of axle is in the rear? As previously mentioned jeepforum.com has a lot of info. With a softtop you might as well leave your doors open or else you'll get your windows slashed. BTDT. If you're planning a lift (LJ look kind of funny stock) I would recommend Full Traction, Rubicon Express, or Nth Degree. If you just want a mild lift (3-4) the most complete lift for the price is from Full Traction. Here's my TJ with the Full Traction lift and Old Man Emu shocks. It also has a locker upfront and a limited slip in the rear.
  3. That’s a pretty $hitty thing to say. Although I know what you're saying, I don't wish for them to go under. I think that this is in big part the government's fault for keeping their hand in the pot and not allowing the airlines to fully de-regulate. If US AIR and United had gone out of business 4 years ago then you would not be seeing this crap. I see you are pointing out the LCC. The only good example there is SWA. JetBlue isn't doing so well. And don't even get me started on their E190 pay scales.

  5. Are you guys kidding me. This isn't that complicated. Imagine you were doing a touch and go on the same conveyor belt at 60KTS. Will you stop automatically? Will the aircraft slowdown until stopping (with an equal amount of thrust)? Or will the aircraft be able to perform its touch an go...only that now the tires will be spining at twice the speed. Last time I checked airplanes don't produce or transfer their thrust via the tires.

  9. All I'm saying that in theory seems to defy the laws of physics and I’m not talking aerodynamics here. Just answer this. At what speed will the conveyor have to go (taking into consideration the wheel's small resistance, and the fact that the aircraft is yet to experience any form of aerodynamic drag) in order to counter lets say 23,770 Lbs of thrust. I'm not an engineering major but I will assume that the resistance from a spinning wheel has to stabilize itself at certain point. Therefore no matter how fast the thing is moving; the net force countering the airplane's forward motion will become steady after X many rotations. After this point it will be a matter of the wheels not falling apart and the airplane’s thrust countering this resistance.
  10. Well, if there's no ground speed and in this case no airflow over the wings there's no lift. However, this experiment seems impossible to produce due to the high speed required by the belt. Even then, just imagine this on a small scale. Get on a treadmil with rollerblades on and have your buddy push you from behind. I bet you that it wont take a lot to get you moving foward. In other words there wont be enough resistance caused by the free-spinning wheel to keep an airplane from moving foward.
  11. Last time I checked the wheels are independent of the source of thrust. Just imagine that being applied to an f-15 on AB T/O. At the end you may exceed the wheels rotational speed but that bad boy is moving foward.

  19. Dude, do you really need to go to a public message board to figure out which path to take? As previously stated, if you have to ask, do everyone involved a favor and go the civilian route. The military is not for everyone and is sure as hell not the way to build flight time to go to the airlines. What I'm trying to ask is do you just want the flight time or do you want to serve your country? Would you be extremely disappointed if you washed-out and had to do a desk job for the rest of your career? Just look at the commitment from each side and that should be the deciding factor. Don't be one of those dudes that apply, get selected, and then turn down the slot. AirWinger
  20. The doc that did my PRK was one of the first to start working with laser correction in Florida (I know that all docs say they are the best, blah..blah..blah). He tells me that PRK is a superior surgery based on the simplicity behind it (no flap). However, because of the increased healing time, religious steroid drops, and increased follow-up appointments it is not as popular as LASIK. If I were you, I would look at what the military in general approves. I would then look for whomever has the best laser around. Remember not all lasers/trackers/mappers are the same and this is what is really doing the work. If your doc is really good he will have the lastest and gratest to include wavefront technology. If he tells you that it does not make a difference run away. I had Wavefront PRK with 20/10 results in both eyes. Most people I know that has had PRK ended up with 20/15 and no worst than 20/20 for the rest. Now for the ones that had LASIK performed I cannot say the same. Remember, this is just my humble non-scientific/medical opinion. By the way I just realized that you are active and will be getting this done via the Air Force. I'm assuming that you are refering to the recently approved wavefront LASIK for rated aviators in less than 14,000 cabin pressure. Like I said, research this subject and if I were you, I would still go to a couple of civilian docs to see what they have to say. Usually these consultations are free of charge. Good luck.   22. Go to the regionals. You will be making over $100,000 within your first 2 years. Right after that, a major such as Delta will call upon your expertise and ask you to join their ranks. Upon completing their training you will be making over 300 thousand flying a 777. In other words only a moron like myself would be looking at joining the military. Peace!
