I say we rewrite our doctrine for 3 years and just conquer these places and make some new states.

That’s one approach but if we just wanna stop aggression and no more then my suggestion is long range fires and a shit ton of them plus attritable platforms.
My first post didn’t mean to be this platform for this platform for that one but in the parochial mindset of congress it probably will have to be, if you divest my JSTARS then what are you going to replace it with in my district to preserve economic footprint?

  2. have you ever considered the liberal international order is its own version of authoritarian systems? it really hit me with how the system acted during covid. lockdowns, forced vax, openly lying about the vax effectiveness.
fauci himself praised the chinese level of dystopian lockdowns.

Well I wouldn’t say the LIO as it is historically or academically defined but it is the corruption of western republican democracies / societies
The LIO is not the globalist open borders hyper exploitation crony capitalism in league with a cronyist administrative state, it is the rules based order relationships among countries following WW2 meant to prevent wars of aggression and promote positive fair interaction among nations, allow access to the global commons and promote a basic level of human rights.
The globalists try to conflate their project with the LIO but they are separate. The LIO respects legitimate sovereignty whereas the globalist does not.

  3. "stop aggression" has become the new "save our democracy"

Understand your perspective but there is a storm brewing between eastern authoritarian systems vs the Liberal International Order. Despite its flaws and the disgusting hypocrisy greed and lying of half the people who lead it, it is preferable to an existence dominated by the other systems.

  4. 5 years?  Methinks more like 2-3…
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2024/01/16/be-ready-for-war-with-china-russia-iran-and-north-korea-warns-uk/
BO Generals and SESes… say you have 3 years to get ready for a coordinated series of aggressions in multiple theaters around the world.
Some allies will respond and assist, some will be trying to grow their capes prior to the ballon going up, some will be neutral and allow passage thru territory but no landing or basing in their territory, a few will block access to their sovereign territory and try to placate aggressors… the majority of military, economic, informational, technological and industrial effort will be from the USA, say 80% to put a number value to it.
You get in the 3 pre-war years DoD budget increases year over year of 5% over inflation and the authority to reprogram, divest and acquire capes equalling about 15% of the budget.  Congress is getting out of the way to a degree.

The objective is to stop aggression and preserve the antebellum territorial borders, SLOCs and deter/prevent further expansion of aggression.
What do you buy?  What do you grow?  What do you divest?  What kind of force can you shape or hone from its present state in 3 years?

  5. They could have been a critical ally; but a lot of bad blood with the US, going back to the 70s where we sent the 7th fleet to India’s Eastern Shores threatening to invade them if they develop nuclear weapons while we didn’t care less that Pakistan, the most radical terrorist infested country in the world, was doing the same. Then after 9/11, we cozied up to the same radical infested country with Pakistan. Lo and behold, the 9/11 mastermind was being harbored by Pakistan. India is the largest democracy in the world with a populace that is generally pro western and well aligned with US views against radical Islamic terrorism.  Engagements, exercises = yes, arms sales = no.

Didn’t know about that in the 70s, is that a specific event, would want to know more about it.

I think that India can serve two purposes in our upcoming sequel to Cold War 1, a type of foil to China and a link to a wounded and pissed off insular Russia after the Ukraine War stops MCO, my belief is it will likely be a frozen conflict with a very tense situation for the next few decades. India can help the West with Russia and we can help them vis a vis China

  6. So I watched a Zeihan video today on India in a post American led world…

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41AEoEkgDm0

and I concur with Zeihan that India is not exactly a friend, not an enemy, my description would be a shrewd business associate occasionally.

I listened to 2034 WW3 novel by Ackerman and Stavridis about a year ago and India plays a role there again not exactly friend or foe, just a techno war novel but seems like the policy makers and works see this also, India is not the next great ally we hoped for to balance against China.

If this is so, is engagement (arms sales, exercises, security agreements, etc) long term a bad idea.  Should we keep them at arm’s length?

  7. Are any of these Russian AF losses (the recent Su-30, 35) attributed to any publicly acknowledged system?

Related question, have the Ukrainians gained a BVR capability? IIRC they were mentioned in a YouTube video on the state of the air war in Ukraine as not having one and hence at a big disadvantage vs the Russians, I think it was Bronk on Carroll’s channel.

Not trolling from a cubicle in Moscow but if anyone can say inquiring minds would like to know

  8. The Texas law was a good addition to the laws on the books but until you arrest, charge with the employers and other enablers of illegal immigration and employment, asylum abusers and fraudulent claims, birth tourism, etc with RICO none of this matters

Count in also H1B visas abused / used by corporations to import compliant cheaper labor often beyond their visa limits

As soon as rich mostly white businessmen and their lawyers get arrested, not released on bond and their assets seized this will not get fixed no matter how many you arrest at the border or round up in work place enforcements

  9. Not a peep on HuffPost or CNN about the Deliverance inspired CODEL staffer video
I should not be surprised as I read the Politico article on the VA Dem candidate caught doing webcam sex shows for money and they gaslit the reader by saying it was a leak of a sex tape, 100% not true as she broadcast it to the web to any paying customer
    The MSM is utterly bankrupt

  10. Red counties vs blue counties

The divide is cultural, economic and regional
My two cents our future is still together but as mostly autonomous regions with internal but passable borders, sovereign states should be able to exclude ordinary citizens and legal residents for legitimate reasons, not the movement / presence of government officials for legal reasons. Persons not lawfully present in the USA should be and I think can be legally excluded / removed from a theoretically sovereign state.

  11. The Democratic coalition could make this divide go away on Ukraine funding tomorrow if they proposed paying for it via war bonds or tax increases paid by the investor / corporate class (top 0.1%) with passive income tax reforms AND immigration enforcement / border security / reasonable asylum law interpretation

Do those two things explicitly to get Ukrainian funding and we can move to the next political argument

  12. Does anyone have experience dealing with getting continuation after a DNP? Some NJP is in the picture from a few years ago that I thought I had recovered from, but that still played into a DNP for my first look at O-5. I’m assuming it’s not going to change next year. I’ve assumed I would get double passed over, but I was expecting a Promote at least. Does a DNP likely mean a DNP next year and how does that affect continuation? Thanks for any experiences.

Don’t have personal experience with exactly what you are facing but historically if you are a Major with 15 years of service when the board meets you will get continued
I don’t believe in spreading false hope but if you are rated, have 3 years of honorable service from your NJP incident and it is not of an extreme nature I think you will be continued

I got passed over on AD and that pushed me to the ANG, it worked out for me and I retired as an O-5 and I think I had a greater career from joining the ANG. Not telling you what to do but relaying what happened to me.

    Best of luck to you

  13. You could eat off of their hanger floors.

Does anybody know if they got a long term sustainment contract with Leonardo? I know the Spartans USASOC had were basically living in borrowed time because they wouldn’t allow on demand buys for upgrades and replacements. Italians wanted a long term gravy train or nada.

Probably so as the Coasties have their depot and training for the 27 at Elizabeth City, NC
L3 was the US company partnering with Allenia at that time which has since become Leonardo and I don’t think L-3 Textron is in the Spartan business anymore

  14. Well that sucks but not the first issues with the mighty Spartan. Ailerons were all custom and they were swapped around between tails, caused grinding, stand down at my Guard wing for removal, repair, rebalancing and matching them back to their original tail IIRC.

Good plane though horrible acquisition program when it was the JCA

Never flew its main competitor the C-295 but that was probably the right choice for the stated requirement at the time. Might have lasted in the ANG as a light utility airlifter longer.
