That article has a lot of misdiagnoses of the situation being quoted as gospel.

The Army isn’t stacking on 100-150 knots to increase protection, it’s doing so to provide the capability of traversing greater distance in a convergence of enablers. That’s necessary to push out effectively from sanctuary of Air Defense and ground security.

Showing video of Russians being dumb as a way to justify getting rid of the RW part of multi domain disintegration of the IADS is because you won’t find the opposite argument plastered across Reddit. Anybody that thinks Helicopters have no part in going offensive in the IADS should probably let the Israelis know… they seem confused by that.

No doubt, I see the cancellation as a resources saving issue not necessarily as a recon scout helo is not needed/viable issue

I can’t hear you over the sound of all this burning contract money and the 1/3 of Chinook fleet life we bled moving cargo/people we couldn’t get transported.

FARA was always the Army’s lowest aviation priority, and the Victor is a disaster so thank god that’s gone.

    so true

  3. I am at a loss for words, WTF are these idiots thinking?
    Stop retired pay.
    Stop VA pay.
    No choice of duty station.
    No promotion opportunity.
Your time on VRRAD does NOT count towards time in service.
Sooo come work in a crap hole of our choosing, for half pay, no promotion and its doesn't count towards your retirement.
    FU!

Doesn’t count towards good years? WTF - so a dude with 17 years of AD service could not use this program to get to the check o’ the month club?
If he/she retired at 20 Guard/Reserve but with the hypothetical 17 AD years would they at least get points then at least get to the retirement club but with 20 years of service?

If anyone from A1 lurks on this forum please explain how you think this is an enticing deal for the majority of retirees you want to come back?

    What an excrement sandwich

It's Vladamir Putin, the biggest bad guy on the planet. It's like giving Hitler a platform to explain himself. Introducing the least bit of doubt as to our righteousness could be devastating to the aid we're providing to the Ukrainians, and potentially clear a path for Putin to invade Europe.

So the least bit of doubt as to our righteousness... so should we have jailed/banned Vietnam War protesters?  Or anti-war activists for any of the conflicts we the US of A have been in or Allies we have supported in their conflicts?

Freedom has its risks, I'd rather take this risk than the first step down the road you seem to be prodding us on to...

There are limits of course, explicit calls to arms against a legitimate government, policy, law for example but it is unreasonable to say that conversing with a foreign leader involved in a conflict with another nation and not directly at war with the United States is traitorous.

What's next?  You don't like Orban in Hungary and interviewing him and broadcasting it is against the national interests of the USA?

  5. Why is Tucker Carlson being allowed to publish his interview with Vladimir Putin tomorrow evening at 6pm EST?
If we're at war with Russia, and Tucker interviews the leader of the country we are at war with, and then publishes that interview on American media outlets, is that not Anti-American propaganda? Is it not traitorous? We already know every word Putin says in the interview will be a lie, so why would we allow anyone to see dangerous misinformation?
It only makes sense to sanction and bring charges against anyone deliberately causing harm to our national security.

Kinda of an expansive definition to say talking to someone then letting others see it at their own choosing to view it or not is harmful to our national security

  6. Something that always struck me about that part of the world was all they really have is oil. Everything else is imported from cars to clothes. And having China "squealin from the feelin" is gravy on top. Militaries don't do well without lots of gas to keep things moving especially in wartime.  Japan learned the hard way in WW2 that sooner or later you have to have the capacity to replace losses.
On a side note take everything you hear from the Iraqi Government with a grain of salt. At least as far back as 2008 the Iraqi Parliament engaged in that time honored Middle Eastern tradition of members taking bribes, from Iran for votes against the interests of the US. I doubt any of that has changed. All about the Benjamin's and without that you don't get to play.

I think some of them realize that (hydrocarbon export based economies if they have oil/gas and if not they are mainly client states of other powers)
MBS (and a few others) seems to want to try to diversify from just oil exports, they have some financial resources to effect this but will quite a juggling act on his part or any other ME leader who attempts this. They buy social stability with heavy subsidies and keep their clergy in line with generous deference and financial support, can these states keep those two expenses paid while subsidizing a nascent industry that the people of their states can and will do? I’m cynically hopeful for them as I am for parts of America that struggle today

  7. 100%. They would collapse - and I mean collapse - after about four days of full onslaught.

    Zeihan has thoughts on that

My druthers, beating Iran down is worth the risk to the secondary disruption to the global economy.
If you don’t establish deterrence via disproportionate retaliation then prepare for a decade of deadly harassment from rogue nations

  8. Lindsey Graham said the other day that we can see at least 4 major oil refineries in Iran. Obliterate one and tell those SOBs now you have 3. Want to try for 2? Oil refineries are already primed to blow anyway.
At a minimum hit the pipeline nodes transporting oil to the tankers in port. If they can't get it to port they can't sell it. Now That's a sanction with teeth.
Even if they stack ADA around the refineries it's damned difficult to cover the entire pipeline network. Turn off the cash cow and you turn off the ability to make trouble.

Strike 3 at first leave 1
    That will focus their minds

  9. All about money and shinny new things. The Swiss have zero need for the F-35. It’s actually probably a negative for them, and should have gone with Block 70 Vipers, new Super Hornets, etc. Similar applies to multiple partner countries.

    Yup
I think this is “fixing the glitch” in whatever’s F-35 numbers you wanna believe
More operators for bigger economies of scale for more ways to hide higher than published life cycle costs
What the hell, just print some more money and shovel it around…

  10. Czechia Signs to Buy U.S. F-35 Jets
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2024/01/29/czechia-signs-to-buy-u-s-f-35-jets/

IDK, seems like we’re encouraging an ally to buy a very pricy system when if they bought a less expensive one (in greater numbers) to acquire/operate/sustain they might be better off in the long run (FA-50 for example)

Just my opinion from the cheap seats but a better COA is to plan for our smaller allies to bring more less capable but relevant systems to the party and Uncle Sam brings the exquisite capes rather than expecting them to be mini versions of us

you think the Russian economy/military is going to recover to a level higher than what they were at at start of Ukraine war in less than 15 years?

Depends, if the rest of the authoritarian world and parts of the Global South ignore the sanctions on them now and likely after the conflict ends / suspends they’ll bounce back better than we want

They got problems but they got means too, more natural resources and a scientific / industrial base that’s capable

Russia is never as strong as she seems nor as weak as she seems, my guess is their national pride is stronger than our post modern corporate nihilistic leaders want to believe, I think 10 years after they stop fighting in Ukraine they will be capable of significant military local power projection.

  12. I love his series even if it overstated what it turned out to be real Russian capabilities.

The scene where the US Brigade commander is on the VTC and is cut off mid sentence with the President because of his gawd damned cell phone got his head quarters targeted was great. We’ve been preaching that for years to be ignored by people who are too important to not have their phone.

    Same
That was a very realistic idea as evidenced by both sides in Ukraine War
Timeline in the 30s seems plausible after the Ukraine war ends probably in a year or two

  13. My druthers, invasion seems likely as it (the CCP) will be desperate to distract and redirect their population’s anger as their nation declines and Xi wishes to fulfill his promise of reunification

Countries in desperate situations (by their perspective) rarely make wise decisions and the personalities at the top of authoritarian regimes are often gamblers who will risk big when they think they can win

Weak corrupt venal western leaders, empty weapons arsenals, overstretched resources and tenuous turbulent domestic politics in your rival make for ideal conditions for invasion methinks.

  14. Commute worthy and good summary of an extensive set of war games on a cage match between the USA v PRC for Taiwan

  15. They can always go back to building wooden ships and try to take back their empire old school.
To be honest I think it's karma.  They (England) did a lot of bad shit.  Time to pay the piper.

Not the people living in the UK now and unless you believe in blood libel and generational guilt do they deserve to be sold down the river by their ruling class

  16. Yeah, and that sucks. Believe me, the immigration crisis is infuriating. But you think it's better in Europe? Asia? South America?

Something can suck and still be the best. It's a sad indictment on where we are, but it's reality.

    Fair enough
Don’t think it’s any better anywhere else in the Western / Developed world
“Leaders” everywhere see the people of their nations as nothing but interchangeable cogs
