  1. Hit it right on the head here. Hop on the AFOQT scoring website and see what kind of PCSM you will have with increased flying experience (it goes up in tiers, ie. above 10 hours, above 50 hours, etc.). Also, if you dont think you can get any more hours in prior to submitting your package to the board, you could always try and take the AFOQT again (i know this sucks) to bring up your Quantitative score. From my experience, the PCSM is what counts the most and this is greatly affected by how many flying hours you have.
  2. Is this still happening? I thought you couldn't drop RPA out of UPT anymore? OP your scores aren't bad, just keep working towards your goals.
  3. FWIW ive seen 2 dudes recently get picked up for OTS at 28yo and change. Havent witnessed anyone older than that but im still a noob so im sure some others will chime in with some more information. You could also try and get ETP but pretty sure that isnt too likely. If this is something you really want then I would try my hardest to push for this. Good luck!
  4. Gotta love good ol Peter O'Knight. I was doing preflight at KTPF when this bad boy landed. Should have seen the faces on some of the people.
  5. On the link with pictures near the bottom someone posted the KC135 was from MacDill out in tampa (unconfirmed). Its for sure a sad day. Thoughts and prayers go out to the familys affected.
  6. ^ did they say you were good to go at your FC1? Although nothing can be certain, you should be fine. My eyes tested just a tad worse than yours and my FC1 was approved wtih waiver for myopia. Usually takes 3-5 weeks to hear anything back. Contact recruiter if you havent heard by that point. Best of luck. Also, having a -2.5 refraction error is closer to 20/150 I would think, not 20/80. As long as it doesnt exceed 20/200 and is correctable to 20/20 I believe your fine.
  7. Wonder if the CFI put his seatbelt after he recovered the plane. If you ask me this plane has bad luck written all over it.

  9. ^ I apologize for putting this in the GD. I just figured it was a topic worth discussing. There were a couple threads in the "What are my chances" section which detailed more how to obtain your PCSM and what you need to do, but I figured it could go in here since its a discussion topic. Anyways, mods feel free to move this if need be.
  10. Whats everyones take on the new scoring system going into effect February 13th? http://access.afpc.af.mil/pcsmdmz/faq2_0.html#THREE I am curious to see how everyones scores will be affected.
  11. Hey guys. Quick question for you. I recently had my FCI at WPAFB back on Dec 3rd - 7th. Everything went great. I was informed by the staff that it would take roughly 30-45 days for my physical to be sent to HQ, stamped, and approved. I was wondering since this time has past how I can find out if everything went through ok. I contacted both my unit and recruiter and haven't heard anything back yet. Thanks in advance!
  12. I was in a simlar situation. I landed two interviews in two different parts of the country. I went and intervied with the first unit and was waiting to hear back from them for a couple of weeks. During this couple of weeks the other unit invited me to interview with them and I told them I would interview with them. Long story short, the original unit gave me the slot the day before I was suppose to go interview with the second unit. I called the second unit and let them know I would not be attending their interview board. They wished me well and told me its no surprise another unit picked me up.
  13. Thought the E6B was considered a "Computer"? Thats what I was told back when I got my private but I could never actually confirm it because I couldnt find the power cord.
  14. Thank you for the information. I definitely appreciate it!
  15. I already had to submit by Civilian eye exams to the SG in order to get my FC1 scheduled. They did the cyclo refraction error exam at the civilian doc and once I sent this information in to the SG (through my recruiter), they scheduled the FC1. I am assuming they had to see what it was as they specifically requested a cyclo test from my civilian opt. I am hoping for the best, but as far as the age waiver goes, I don't want a waiver. I was just seeing based on everyones experience if they think I would have enough time to get PRK, retake my FC1, get hired by AFRC, go through OTS and still make it to UPT by my 30th birthday if I were to get DQ'd for my eyes in December at FC1. An age waiver would be a last resort if I couldnt make it to UPT by my 30th birthday.
  16. Hey guys, I hate to start a new thread but searched for a while and didnt find anything exactly like what I was looking for. Your insight would be greatly appreciated. I have an upcoming FC1 at Wright-Patt the first week of December. I believe I am right on the boarderline regarding my refraction error and am unsure which way it will go. That is my only issue. Other than that I should be completely fine during the FC1. My question to you is, since I am 26 and 1/2 years old and will be 27 in May 2013, I was wondering what options I have if I DQd because of my refraction error. I have not had PRK but would be willing to get it done ASAP after the FC1. I am a civilian who has been sponsered by a reserve unit. I am aware that PRK requires a minimum of 12 months before I can take the FC1 again. This being said, I am also aware that I would need to be at UPT before my 30th birthday. From your experiences, does this leave me enough time (to get PRK surgery, retake FC1, get Hired by AFRC board, go through OTS, go to UPT). I am aware there are age waivers and what not but disregarding this how does the outlook look for me? Also, just a side note, I am a good candidate for PRK (in case I need it), and my unit would be willing to hold on to me until everything is completed. Also, I dont want to be pushed towards a nav spot. I want to fly. I hope for the best in December. Thanks in advance, and any insight would be great.
  17. Good to hear! I went through this process too. Originally at MEPS they only passed me up to a C and pilots need at least a D, E or F score. My recruiter told me this and scheduled me for the next day to retake the test and I passed it with ease. I think they just rush people through it at MEPS. I also had my civilian optometrist do some DP tests and they said I had perfect DP. I think the randot test may be outdated. They also made my civilian optometrist give me a cyclo refraction exam prior to scheduling me for IFC1 at Wright Patt.
  18. Thank you for the timely response. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't a FC1 required for all pilots? Why would I go for an FC1A or FC11 if I am wanting to fly? Also, in regards to the astigmatism waiver question, I wouldn't try and pull anything on anyone, I am just trying to become informed. Also, if they have already scheduled me for a FC1 after reviewing my paper work and eye exams thoroughly, haven't they already seen my eye exam results and seen what my cyclo refraction is? Just curious as to why they would schedule me if they already knew I needed to get surgery? Again I am new at this so any information is good information.
  19. Hello all. First off, let me thank you in advance. I know this subject has been beaten to death. I have read everything in this thread as well as another thread on these forums where the subject has been touched upon. Anyways, I have familiarized myself with the waivers and basic limitations pertaining to eye sight. I have been selected for a pilot slot from a Reserve unit recently and am in the process of trying to set up my FC1 at Wright Patterson and eventually going off to OTS. I recently (within the past week) went to my civilian eye doctor to have a cyclo refraction exam taken and the results were: OD = -200 x -100 x 90 OS = -275 x -100 x 70 Both eyes are correctable to 20/20 and I have no other issues besides the refraction and slight astigmatism. Here are my questions: 1- From these results, is it safe to say my refraction in my right eye is right at -3.0 and my left eye is at -3.75? I know the waiverable requirements are at most -3.0 for excessive refraction so I am assuming I am out of luck to get a waiver because of my left eye being -3.75, correct? 2- How strict are they on these standards? I do believe the waivers limitations I found were dated 2006 so I am not sure if the AF has changed these or not and if it is any different for reservists than the guys going AD. 3- Since my -100 astigmatism is the reason I go above the -3.00 maximum waiverable limit (based on my calculations, I am not sure if I am wrong) in my left eye, is there anyway the SG would waive my astigmatism which in turn would allow for the waiver of my excessive refraction error? 4- If I am not allowed to get any waivers because my left eye is over the limit, my next option would be PRK/LASIK correct? Obviously this is the route I would have to take and would do so ASAP because this is something I really want and I have worked relatively hard at getting to this point already (most of you probably already know this feeling). This leads me to my last question. 5- What is the timeframe I should expect if I have to get PRK/LASIK? I am aware of the 12month post-op wait for FC1 and based on my Pre-Op findings, I should be allowed to undergo PRK/LASIK. I am just curious as to how they would handle it. My recruiter hasn't had too much great information for me. I turned 26 back in may and I am aware there is an age limit you must meet prior to OTS. Again, thank you for your time and sorry for the rant.
