Pretty cool history. Congratulations on the anniversary.

I believe that he took a sabbatical last time because posting on the internetz was not compatible with his job or some of the work that he had been called in to do on a contract basis. I doubt he'll ever 'quit' BO.

Steve,
I just saw the pre-release for your B-52 Owner's Manual book coming out in April, and signed up for one.
Thanks for doing another book on the BUFF.
Thanks for buying it! It was a really interesting book to write.

The site has a new designer who was tinkering with the layout. If you have suggestions for different pictures that are public use (no copyright issues), post the pictures or a link here and I'll pass them along.
Toro
Rich asked if he could use some of my images for the site and I told him that was fine - gratis. He never got around to using them.
If you want some, get your designer to drop me a line. Or he can checkout this page, which has some of my work on it: http://fjphotography.com/WP/photography/

Possible to ship to the ROK?
Sadly not :( Address has to be US. We could ship to someone who can then forward them on to you...

Just as an aside, the book Steve is giving away is an excellent read -- a first person account of flying a Thud mission in Vietnam.
True.
I asked Ed Rasimus to review it. To paraphrase, he said 'Fine. So long as you know that I'll probably end up saying that it's shit. Most of these books are'.
Here's what he actually wrote:
“When you’ve finished the book, your palms will be a bit sweaty and there might be a slight tremor of your fingers. You’ll be breathing a bit faster and maybe your stomach will be in a knot until you realize this was long ago and you weren’t really in danger today. There have been many books on Rolling Thunder and many on the F-105 mission. I’ve written a couple that I thought were pretty good. Bob Deas has made me envious of what he’s done in Two Days of Rolling Thunder.
This one’s a winner.”

Huggy...Forget shipping we can pick the books up in person on an ERT if Steve can hold them until next month.
Thanks for the offer, but the US stock is actually warehoused somewhere in Phoenix!

Sorry, gents. Have now made space in inbox.
-
Damn Steve,
Don't waste the book on those neanderthals. Most of them cannot read unless the book should be accompanied with a box of Crayolas.
Whatever you have left, send our way to Beale. We would love to have them.
Huggy
If you're serious, you can have the books for free. We would request that you pay shipping. If that sounds satisfactory, you can have them.
I wanted to give first dibs to the guys at Hill and DM because the book concerns those two wings (the book is Two Days of Rolling Thunder by Sam Deas), and I thought they would most appreciate the story telling of one of their forebears.
However, the most important thing is that they go to a good home and that I get rid of them sharpish.
So, if you want them, let me know.

M2
We have about 100 copies in the UK that I'd like to give to the Bolars or Panthers at Lakenheath, and several hundred copies in the US that can be shipped to either DM or Hill.
So, hoping that the bros on both sides of the pond can help!
Cheers
Steve

We have a stash of books to 'gift' any Air Force squadrons that want to make a quick buck. Might help buy a few kegs of beer for the squadron bar.
Time is of essence. Have to shift the books before the second week of Feb.
Please see post 13 below for stock levels and post 15 below for instructions.
Only cost to you is shipping, which is approx. $1 per book. That can be paid in US $ to my business partner Col (ret) Doug "Disco" Dildy (ex-Eagle driver). Payment details will be sent once the books have arrived with you, so it's a no risk deal.
Thanks.

This is what I meant when I said I have never been a Petraeus fan...
Can you explain your position on this, viz-a-viz military commanders being hamstrung by politicians?
In effect, Petraeus revised the standard of performance expected of senior U.S. field commanders. Getting an “A” on their report card no longer required winning. Now, mere alleviation sufficed. -

I thought this was classy. Rescuers will rerun to the site to lay poppies.
Rescuers to return to scene of US jet crash on Skye
Men involved in the search for survivors of a US military jet crash 30 years ago are planning to return to the site of the fatal accident.
Maj Burnley Rudiger, 37, and Lt Steven Pitt, 28, died when their F111 fighter bomber went into Sgurr na Stri, a small hill on Skye, on 7 December 1982.

Wow... for takeoff little wheel blocks come out of the flight deck as you spool up the motors and then you're off to hit that ramp!
Interesting. If they build nine more and develop tactics for sixty years or so the Navy might have to step up their game.
Not new.

Invalid source.
I want to see a copy of the FEF paperwork grounding the pilot and the ELINT tracks of the Roland event.
Copy. Filing FOIAs now.
-
This is direct from the flight lead involved in the second strafing action:
There were two different strafe events.First was strafing a military vehicle on the road near Mudayisis (without much success, and a subsequent "grounding' for a few days).
Then, maybe a week or two later my 4-ship strafed two airfields north of Baghdad with AWACS ACE approval (one of them was Balad) and bagged at least 1 x Candid, and 1 x Cub sitting on the ground. We might have bagged another Cub or two at the second airfield but we couldn't verify because we almost lost #3 to a Roland SAM that was defending the airfield.

what kind of goofy wings is he wearing?
Look like Aggressor wings to me.

Stumbled on this thread earlier in the week, has a lot of color photos of aircraft during the Korean War.
An outstanding selection of photos.
I thought that they represented a unique collection and that many were extremely rare in and of their own right. Then I saw this one:
I don't think I have ever seen an unauthorised photo the Kimpo MiG-15 before now. Had heard they existed, but not in the public domain.
WTF? (**NSFW**)
