That guy is *an officer* in the US Air Force? How embarrassing for you all.
-
Wow. BA really isn't what it used to be.
-
Was she hott? Was she dressed slutty? Maybe she just had it coming (sts).
Nope. Dunno.

The article claims LE confiscated a firearm--how did these guys have a gun in the UK when they're essentially banned?
Not sure whether serious.
-
Was he actually an AF pilot?
Valid question.

Unconfirmed reports of a tanker down after take-off in Kyrgyzstan:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-22397266
If correct, a really bad couple of weeks for US aviation.

Wow, really? Pray tell, give us insight as to how in the hell they were suppose to prevent such an act? That's the problem with you journos, you seem to have the answer to everything after the fact. If your lot is as insightful as you claim to be, you should have known about it as well and report it; but as usual all your brilliance seems to show up a day late and a dollar short.
Nice personal attack.
There are many questions surrounding whether this was an avoidable failure. I am quite happy to hear someone explain to me that nothing could have been done, but the questions I am asking here as an interested observer (not as a journalist) seem to be similar to the ones that your own government is starting to ask.
If it's no longer acceptable to ask open questions here at BO, or to point out the obvious, without a so-called moderator resorting to ad hominen attacks, then what has become of this site?

He's been charged as a civilian for the use of a WMD (amongst other things).
Umm...perhaps for you journalists. Most of us are pilots. Didn't you get the memo on that, Steve?
After all this time, I should have known.

Zimbabwe's home grown aerospace industry can be traced back to this guy.

In this country, it's not against the law to be a supporter of radical Islam.
Lastly, considering how quickly they were identified and brought to justice, I think the FBI did a pretty good job. I'd like to hear how you think they could have done better given the circumstances...
To be clear, I am not bashing the FBI...
My point was something already has gone wrong, and it went wrong on the FBI's watch. There are no guarantees that any prosecution case will be built as spotlessly as you suggest. We are all human and all fallible.
-
Don't worry, the FBI will ensure the case against this individual will be clean; I've worked with them before, they know their shit.
The same FBI that investigated one of the suspects after a tip-off by a foreign government that he was a supporter of radical Islam?

Were they Arab? Which is who you implied was behind it. They could have just as easily been u.s. citizens who were fundamental islamists... hell they'd been living here for 10 years.
There are 1.6bn Muslims in the world, of which up to 90% are Sunni. They can't all be Arabs.

Russians.
Don't think ANYONE saw that coming.
Russians or Chechens? Serious question.

Like a VIDEO video? Or the computer generated re-creation that's floating around?
Yes, a VIDEO video. Shot from the ground, showing the U-2 flying really close to the ground with a quite a high bank angle, and with a couple of Mirage 2000s 'escorting it'. I assume, of course, that there have not been two such incidents like this...
Steve,
Do you know Chris Pocock very well? I just saw him at the El Centro Airshow. He's a great U-2 resource in the UK... or worldwide for that matter.
Huggy,
I have never met him. Agree that he's got a great reputation for his U-2 writing.

Yes, I don't doubt that's true. I was reading that quote, plus the fact that the Air Force's own civilian leader appears to have an ill-formed view, plus the completely retarded questions asked of the CIA by another senator about the White House's armed drones, and then tarnishing them all with the same brush.
It's exactly the same over here. A helicopter recently crashed in London. An MP went on the news and said that she thought that private helicopters flying in London was dangerous (despite this being the first ever fatality in 40+ years), and that this was particularly the case when they hovered over the Houses of Parliament. The only helos allowed to do that are police ones. She is, clearly, a cretin.
So, yes, it is clear that politicians the world over are the same in that they say what they think their constituents want to hear.
Steve, I would say that most are not retards (except maybe the congressman who thought Guam would tip over if overpopulated with American military), but elected by retards. McCaskill was trying to win points with her dumbed-down constituents. IMHO, we have a very uninformed electorate that elects politicians who don't offer real solutions to our problems, but instead, tell them what they want to hear. Maybe it's that way in the UK also. Regards, RF

Wow. The most powerful country in the world really is run by a bunch of retards:
Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo. said that Franklin's decision sets the Air Force "all the way back to Tailhook."

A bit of an aside, but having read the FOIA documents...
I appreciate that it may not be something peculiar to OSI, but I was really interested to see that the accuser is constantly referred to as the VICTIM (their caps) in pre-trial documents, while the accused is referred to by his surname.
I'd be interested in knowing how the connotations of both naming approaches can possibly not influence the investigating officers, especially in a case that extends over a lengthy period.

Will Lt Col. Wilkerson be able to return to work? Or has this fucked him over irrevocably?
-
There's a video somewhere online of the Mirages flying around with the U-2. Pretty dramatic. Will try and find it...

Definitely write a book.
But don't talk about the ACES II being a Martin Baker seat - it's a Goodrich seat.
-
Not quite right. He enrolled in journalism school so he could join the media...
He'll never make it. Far too verbose.

I hear he's taken a job in PA.
