Great shots, Morley

I think that the world view of America is that it is a country rooted in the deepest sense of patriotism and respect for its armed forces... so the idea that one of America's national sporting bodies (and associated teams) was taking money to salute the troops is a little shocking.

He has recently made an appearance on at least one internet thread that discusses his shootdown and subsequent actions. Angry PMs have been recieved!
I wonder whether he'll find this thread?

For whatever it's worth, I met her a long time ago when she was at Captain and she gave zero impression that she wanted media attention. I expect that she is simply a 'victim' of an Air Force that feels it needs to get this sort of stuff out there.

No FY14 Class A mishap reports have been released, at least not according to:

Some Saudi prince is offering RSAF "pilots" (I guess that WSOs don't qualify) a Bentley each in return for their participation in the Yemen bombing campaign (which they have ended without having actually achieved their objectives).
AFAIK, no caveat is in place about them actually having to have hit their targets.

1) Is this the investment the taxpayers want to make? Billions upon billions of dollars spent so that we can, *eventually*, be able to match the capabilities we already have? Am I taking crazy pills? When in history have we transitioned to next generation aircraft under the promise that the new generation will hopefully be as good as the last?
If this guy believes in the platform, he's got to speak to its advantages. Revolutionary technology, interoperability between services, etc. Something. ..... can you think of any really expensive investment you would make if someone told you they thought it might someday be as good as what you already had?
Hoss,
He clearly stated that in 10 years' time, the F-16 will be a flying target and that the F-35 is the answer to that.
My understanding has always been that the F-35's key role was never intended to be CAS - it was intended to be a door kicker on Day1 in a denied, double-digit SAM environment. No other airframe in the Air Force inventory can do that (at least, not in the white world inventory), so isn't that really what the F-35 must excel at?
If the F-35 is 'as good as' existing MDSs at CAS (and I note your caveats about that), but will be able to operate in a highly-advanced threat environment a decade from now, and if the Air Force has decided that it doesn't have the cash to splash on single-mission aircraft, then what is the solution?

I don't think that audio came from an F-4
From memory, that's from a 22FS F-16 out of Spangdahlem.

Yeah, Huggy. ESCPAC (sp?) seats, made by Douglas.

Would a pilot/crew who ejected out of an F-111 "crew capsule" qualify for the Martin Baker recognition tie and number? Not sure if the F-111 pod was built by Martin Baker
Unfortunately not - the F-111's crews escape module was built by McDonell Aircraft under contract for GD.

F-8C wing failure at the fold mechanism, in case anyone was interested.

Currently building a summer travel list for the Kindle app on my iPad . As an author, do you have any insight as to why some books are available on Kindle and some, like your F-15s in Combat, are not?
Sorry for the delayed response. It can be for a variety of reasons:
1. Format doesn't really work on digital (as suggested above)
2. Author has not given permission to turn it into digital - contracts today cover digital rights, but older contracts typically do not, so new contracts have to be issued. If the author isn't interested or doesn't like the rates of offer, they can torpedo the whole initiative by refusing to sign over digital repro rights
3. Many books are published by 'vanity publishers', where the author has actually covered most (if not all) of the publishing costs. To go digital will require the author to spend even more money
4. Some companies and authors are still not convinced that the ebook sale is a business model that they want to get onboard with.

Since when does an international conglomerate corporation headquartered in Japan constitute "we"?
Since *American* movie theaters refused to air the premier for fear of reprisals?
Besides which, I expect he was referring to the free world 'we'.

I am not a fan of flashdance, but I thought this was actually very good.

You mean the steam from the cat illuminated by the deck lighting?
That could well be exactly what it is - orange illumination just made it look like a localised patch of fire.
I think I see what you're talking about at 14 - 23 seconds. Not sure, almost seems like the crew chief there was expecting it and didn't really care.
Yeah, that would tally with it just being illuminated smoke, as per HF's suggestion.

I got the impression that there were some in his community (F-105) who disliked him because of his actions over the gun camera footage. I never got to the bottom of that, but it was certainly there.
Read both of his books and thought they were excellent.

I seem to remember that same story coming from an old sim instructor at CBM. The way that version went, he missed the first A2A kill of Desert Storm (his wingman didn't have his shit in the street & claimed that honor)
Mark Williams?

Latest is this:
- Two parachutes, so presumably F-15D. Edit: 48FW confirms D model, but states that only one occupant on board. Wonder whether solo collar came off the command selector valve lever?
- Wing and fuselage are separated by some distance

A US military aircraft has crashed in a field near houses and a school in Lincolnshire.
Witnesses saw the F-15 come down in a field near Broadgate, Weston Hills, at about 15:30 BST.
The pilot is believed to have ejected from the aircraft and police say he has been located and is safe.
Nearby Weston Hills Church of England Primary School has been evacuated but a member of staff said everyone at the school was fine.
Shaun Gough, whose twin five-year-old daughters are pupils at the school, said part of the wing had landed in the field nearby.
"When my wife went to the school to pick up my daughter she said the black smoke was blowing across the car park and into the school," said Mr Gough.
"I was watching when it came down back end first, and when you're standing watching it come down close to your daughters' school it's pretty horrendous.
"The wing is in a field about 400 yards from the school. [i'm] just glad nobody has been hurt.
"I've seen a Sea King helicopter land and pick somebody up. I'm guessing it's the pilot."

Was looking at some of the images of the Saudi component of the coalition strikes.
Noticed that the pilot of this F-15S (son of Crown Prince) hasn't bothered to do up the Koch shoulder straps - so, no parachute for him, then. It may be wonder whether these guys actully have any intention of ejecting if the shit hits the fan. Based on anecdotal evidence of previous fatal mishaps, I expect not...
And just to add, this photo was taken pre-strike - it's not of them coming back having unstrapped prior to popping the canopy.
Good military/aviation books

None of those are 'vanity' publishers. Your move.
It's not about bucking a trend, it's about holding out to be paid an amount that is commensurate with both the effort put in and the worth of the product for as long as possible.
I'm not going to throw away the small number of bargaining chips I have just because I fear that you might ridicule me for being backward.
