  1. Somebody who did an F-15S exchange tour once told me that one of the Saudi pilots had taken hard copies of the -34-1-1-1 and 3-1 to Kinkos and left them there to be scanned onto a thumbdrive... so that he could have the manuals on his computer at home. Apparently, this was just one incident in a long line of incidents of this sort, and the RSAF (and DoD!) did nothing about it.

I get that there's a balance between selling hardware to gain access to oil, and resigning yourself to the fact that some of your secrets are going to get out as part of that process, but I don't understand for a second why you would take that risk with the F-35. I hope the partner nations speak up on this.

  2. Tough to beat Brick's briefing, but two that standout to me:

    1. RAF test pilot. "If we have to eject, I'll call EJECT! EJECT! EJECT! and you should pull the handle. If you haven't gone by the third time I've said it, the words EJECT! are written on the bottom of my boots, and you'll be able to read them as my seat leaves the aircraft".

    And an altogether different tact:

    2. USAF test pilot. "If we have to eject today, you are going to die. You'll break your elbows on the canopy sill and will drown in the sea because you won't be able to swim or get in your raft. I will try and swim over to you, but because you'll leave the jet first and are heavier than me, you will enter the sea before I will. Questions?".

    This is all lies!!!

Of course I only watched the first 5 mins of it, but I know it's bull$#!t because Hacker:

    1) Sounds like an adult

    2) Hasn't gotten worked up enough to curse at anyone in more than 69 seconds

    3) Hasn't done anything illegal yet

Clearly this is all made up.

    Evil

It looks that way because I edited it out. I shit you not!

  4. I recently interviewed "Hacker" Haskin about his time as a UPT student, UPT IP and IFF IP (amongst other things!).

He shared a range of advice and thoughts across about four hours of chatting. Those looking to go to UPT might find it interesting:

That’s Viper/Raptor standard turn circle entry! And if you’re not ready, it’s black-out city. YouTube F-16 GCAS.

The Hornet doesn’t have an G limiter system, right?

Yes, it does. 7.33 unless you hit a button on the stick, and then you can have 9 for as long as you keep the button down.

  6. Given that the primary concern here seems to be that the Russians would have been able to improve their systems if Turkey had operated the S400 side-by-side with the F-35, what level of threat does Turkey now pose if it decides to handover what it knows about the F-35?

Seems odd that Turkish pilots were allowed to start training at Luke, and they presumably now have a treasure trove of secrets to share...

Well, In his defense I was told I couldn’t grow up to be a pilot because most people can’t do both. Hence 90% of the threads.

    I can't argue with that!

Source?  Genuinely curious to read more.

Regarding the Swiss guy? I will try to find the link. He was a CPL whose day job was dropping parachutists from a Twin Otter (or some such). He got hired to go and fly Mirages, and got shot down by a MANPAD almost immediately on flying combat sorties, IIRC.

Has the Air Force explained how an operational Navy pilot (whose experience appears to have been mostly in an FBW fighter) and a non-fighter AF WSO, came to be flying asymmetric weapons release tests in an ejection seat equipped aircraft with manual controls? And just how wise was all this when they collectively had only about 10 hours' experience in the Super Tucano?

Are these questions people are asking, or able to answer?

Interesting to see Gene Jackson at the end. Jackson was one of the early HAVE IDEA pilots, flying MiGs out of Groom Lake back when that stuff was properly super secret squirrel. He was later killed when his F-15 experienced a flight control issue on take off.

  10. Bremonts are OK for guys who do a time hack every day, but if you want a watch that keeps time for, say, a week, then I would avoid. I have a Bremont and love everything about it... apart from its ability to actually keep time.
