  1. Don't rule out senior military colleges (privately-owned) either.... Norwich (my alma mater), Citadel, VMI, A&M Corps of Cadets, etc. Approximately the same suck if you are into that sort of thing (more or less), but you get to be in a class with a group of different commissioning sources, too. You can get ROTC to pay for your tuition at these places. Something to keep in mind....

  2. When I got to Columbus mid-Aug 04, they didn't have room in the dorms for the single O's arriving at the same time for 2-3 weeks. We lived in billeting until dorms became available, and then we were able to put our names on the list to move off base.

Considering only about 1/10 of 1% of the nation's college-aged youth choose a military academy (federal or private) lifestyle, I would say, "A lot."
  4. Linda's dead-on, as usual, but as a quick synopsis.... (Because I must take a break from studying)

Expect to live on base in the dorms. They have waiting lists at each base for studs to move off base and start drawing BAH. I was casual at my UPT base for 8 months before starting, and my name came up to move off base (coincidentally) right at 8 months.

Caveat #1: The Base Housing lady at CAFB said she had no real problems with studs getting a place off base, keeping "their" dorm room on the books, but just not drawing any housing allowance. "If I don't know about it, I don't care" kind of deal.

Caveat #2: I hear that at XL, studs can room up in Base Housing sometimes. Don't know too much about that though.

  5. Awesome pictures!

Did anyone notice the picture of the Italian Frecce Tricolori? (2 pics below the BONE). They appear to be some kind of demo team, but if you look closely, the guy on the right (with respect to the pilots) is in the back seat flying, while the other two appear to be in the front... Any idea why the one guy would be flying from the back?

Giving your two cents on your fifth post...... The math doesn't really add up to me.

Ehhh.... I don't know about all of that now....
