  1. Funny that you say that, because when I originally typed the question, I just said "Guard Rescue unit", but I changed to "Guard AFSOC" to be a little more general. I had only heard of this happening with HC-130s, but I wasn't sure if the possibility existed for other SOF aircraft. That being said, the question still stands then. If you go to a Guard Rescue unit, after your tour is up, can you go to an AD slick unit, or would you pretty much have to/be expected to go to an AD HC-130 unit (DM and Moody are the only places, right?)

    SCNS

    Don't tease us, Bendy.
  3. If you took an AD assignment with a Guard AFSOC (be it rescue, Shadows, or Talons) unit out of UPT, would you be able to go back into slicks more easily than you would if you flew an AFSOC bird at an AD squadron? My point is that old "hard to get out" adage that keeps studs from wanting to go into AFSOC straight out of UPT because they are concerned about being "stuck" there.
  4. I wonder if that would be a good or a bad thing.... Working with the Guard, but with AD pay/benefits....
  5. Aren't Intel CGOs way over-manned (supposedly) and one of the first on the chopping block for "force shaping"?
  6. Anyone know Navy commanders' take on this?
  7. If that turns out to be true, I wonder what the new euphemism would be for "snack-o"...
  8. What's the story with that? Am I missing some sarcasm or something, or is there some kind of story that I've just never heard?
  9. Well put... That's pretty much how it went in my class.

    Sabers

I have encountered some tools already that I could imagine not only proudly displaying their "cadet" sword/saber/cutlery/whatever 10 or 20 years down the road, but also actually wearing it with their mess dress or something. But hey, we need people like that, to make the rest of us look cool!
  11. I've heard otherwise about the AD Herk community..... I'm gambling that those I've heard from aren't full of crap.
  12. Gotcha... Just wanted to make sure I cleared that up. Here's to those brave men and their families...
  13. No disrespect intended to the non-flyers bravely serving.... I put "ground pounders" in quotations because it is a term I've heard used for the "earth people" (again, quotations) that are fighting the in-your-face battle on the streets from day-to-day. It can be interchanged with any label people would see fit to use. The point was we have airmen on the ground over there doing their part. It's not just the Army and Marines putting themselves in harm's way. I think people tend to lose sight of that sometimes...
  14. Two Airmen killed in IED explosion 1/23/2006 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- Two Airmen from the 586th Expeditionary Mission Support Group were killed, and one Airman was injured, by an improvised explosive device while on convoy escort duties near Taji, Iraq, Jan. 22. The names of the Airmen are being withheld pending next of kin notification. http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123014663

  17. So, correct me if I'm wrong... As a single LT, when I finish here at Corpus and I get to the Rock, I can refuse gov't quarters and get a place off base, drawing both the daily per diem from Little Rock AND my BAH from Corpus? I've heard this before. Seems too good to be true.

    JMAC

    Google: Searched. WTF is JMAC?
  19. Same at Corpus with the Navy. Edit: After re-reading through this thread, I am starting to see a loose correlation between those flyers who wear dog tags and whether or not they have an ejection seat available. [ 27. December 2005, 06:42: Message edited by: PhlashNU04 ]
  20. Wouldn't that obstruct your vision when you're wearing it in your car as you are driving down the interstate?
  21. Oh crap....Herrrrrreeeeeee we go.....
  22. Doesn't the Navy still do it? Or use colored tape or something? Did their LS folks come up with some kind of new way to inspect for cracks with paint/colored tape on the helmets?
