If we go to a primarily enlisted pilot community in Global Hawks, where do we select the Global Hawk SQ/CCs and DOs from?  Assuming you want to select from those with RQ-4 experience you'll be picking from a much smaller pool of candidates.  You could go with the "import a random LtCol with no RPA experience" technique that has been such a catastrophe in MQ-9s.

I dunno, where do we get Sq/CC's and DO's from to be in charge at the SERE schoolhouse since there's no Officer SERE AFSC's to pull from? Other AFSC's (11H's, STO and CRO's).

    We'd figure it out.

Is there a URL you can use to access the LRF grade book from any government computer, or do you have to be at LRF?

If you have GTIMS access, you can access web GTIMS from the www.baseops.net homepage. This has to be done from a .mil computer.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who said he saw something on the internet that he's making his staff stand at attention and recite the airman's Creed at the beginning and end of every day. And they are making him a five star general, and he's simultaneously going to be the wing and operations group commander at every base, all at once. Oh, and there must be seven teeth showing on every flight suit, especially on blues Thursdays which he's bring back.

Un ing real. The air force is doomed.

Just for perspective with the Army WO community, our UAV guys all have to spend prior time as UAV operators. There isn't a specific street to WO program for UAS the way we have for aviation. Even if there was though you would likely see the majority (70-75%) of the community being prior enlisted same as we see in Aviation. The idea with WO is you are a technical and operational expert not just a 2/3 pay Lt. Now the cross trainer aviator guys who transitioned out of helicopters would be the weird ones in the population. That's more of us farming out jobs to the 58 community.

I'd say on average most of our guys come into the WO community with 14 years of usable service in active duty before they hit 20, so most guys are only going to get as high as CW3 before they can opt out which keeps some of the competitiveness down in the Helo pilot world for the guys who come straight off the street and need the full 20 meaning if you don't make 4 you get out before retirement. That won't be as big an issue now that the pension is going away.

Jobs that would be WO jobs in the Army, Marines, and Navy including the LDO's in the Navy), are farmed out to SNCO's in the USAF. The RPA pilot and some Enlisted aircrew jobs should be WO's.

McDew - I heard a story from my old SQ/CC that he visited some base got off the plane and be lined for this lieutenant who had a morale patch. "You just made your whole wing look like $#it"

He stares are you and your uniform to sum up if you look like shit/out of regs before even talking to you. Of course he's been doing that since he was an O-6.

The killer is the part where it says you must be released from your functional to apply. I would love to apply and have a former U-2 pilot here encouraging me, but nobody is being released from RPAs right now.

A buddy of mine in Global Hawks just got released to go back to the KC-135 due to the mass exodus of 11M's.

  7. Been awhile since I posted, enough my account was deactivated apparently.  I'll start off with my .02 on this place.

I've been out here for almost 2 years now, 7th PCS, prior E married with kids, with the U28s.  It's definitely not where I'll call home forever but it's tolerable for a tour.  Having said that:

    1) I live in Portales and don't enter Clovis unless need drives me.  I live on the south side of town and my commute is usually 25 min.  From what I can tell the commute is comparable from the much sought after NE quadrant of Clovis.

    2) Portales has ENMU, and 2 clubs. One is more college oriented and the other is more western oriented and has a package store.  There's a local grocery and an Ace hardware.  There's a microbrewery and another in the works 3 storefronts down in addition to the smattering of locally owned restaurants .  I understand 90% of your bros live in Clovis which will not be conducive for after work house parties, but Portales to me seems like it has a bit more diversity due to ENMU with its international program.

    3) The house gouging situation is the same.  I'm sure there's crime here, but I've never seen it or been a victim of it.  There aren't multiple schools to choose from down here.  System seems fine, but I know some people are picky as hell.

    4) Housing on base is expanding rapidly.  Most of the new stuff is still under construction.  Consider that when buying in the community with the intent to sell.

    5) Yes, you need to plan your day if you choose to leave the local area.  This is what I call a 'get shit done' base.  There's not many distractions if you have some PME or a hobby you want to take on seriously.  Not many professional opportunities for the spouses though.

    So a west Altus, copy.

Why is there such a backlog at mobility schoolhouses? Is the issue iron on the ramp or instructor availability? I suspect the latter.

    - Looking at the ACP thread, I suspect the problem is a shortage of schoolhouse IPs. Indications are that force shaping and RPA nonvols gutted the now-3rd assignment 11M year groups . . . which would be the prime targets for schoolhouse IP assignments. If the problem is a shortage of experienced, quality 11M IPs, this is going to be difficult to unscrew. 4th+ assignment AD dudes are also in short supply, and I don't foresee the Air Force recruiting a whole lotta reservists to teach at Altus. I don't know where else we're going to get a critical mass of quality 11Ms for schoolhouse assignments.

    - Different circumstances, but there is a precedent in T-1s for getting/keeping guys current before sending them off to MWS training. Early-90s year group guys who were "banked" (went through UPT, but since there were no openings in flying squadrons for them to fill when they graduated, they did non rated jobs for a few years) got a refresher course in T-1s/T-38s before heading off to IFF/their respective MWS schoolhouses. They were getting recurrent while "recats"--folks who did a nonflying tour before starting UPT--entered pilot training. The banked/recat program was a debacle that I hope the Air Force will never revisit.

    edited for minor wording change

Going to Altus as a third assignment IP in the tanker isn't as good as people think it is.  The running joke when I was there was if you're the #1 tanker IP, that meant you're the #14 guy in the wing.  Your quality 11M IP is getting the hell out and joining the airline corps.  When I taught at Altus it wasn't uncommon (and seen a few times) for a CFIC candidate to receive orders to the FTU as an IP.  A lot of folks out of both MDS's at Altus chose that assignment because it was the lesser of two evils (RPA's).  The days of seeing the crusty Maj IP with a toilet bowl on his/her wings flying with young punks are being replaced by the upgraded at their first assignment and have little to no experience instructing.

You would be surprised with the amount of Reservists that Altus hired.  Though in a poor area it's not that far from OKC or Dallas/Ft. Worth.  A lot easier to commute to your airline job as opposed to be a Reservist at Laughlin commuting.
