Also, don’t be obtuse, you know I’m not insinuating the hypothetical dude is going to get a civ tank driving job. He’s going to have a resume with skill sets that far outpace the hammer swinger, all while likely making more money and having greater benefits. That’s the point.

Army enlisted have hard times finding careers post enlistment. Skills don’t translate and there is a stigma.

The AF provides highly technical training to a lot of the force.

It’s time for the Air Force to cut loose any ideas of retention, drop the bonus to $0, and focus on growing our way forward.  You only need one-two gray beards at the top to run a flying squadron.  The rest can be O-3 and below.  Higher risk?  Sure, a little.  Push people through UPT in 6-months, FTUs in 2 months, double the output, and GROW our AF out of the pilot shortage.  Retention is a useless fight at this point.  Drop the bonus to $0.  We will be just fine.

I mean the latter half of this is going to happen somewhat anyways.

T-6 direct coming to a MAF/SOF RTU soon.

11Bs moving to t-1s as an end state COA wrt FBF is bad intel. But it's also moot since nobody asking that question today is going to fly the t7 in upt anyways.

it has nothing do with FBF. It has to do with capacity and it’s a real COA being discussed at air staff

What’s the latest rumint from AETC about the future of T-38 Phase 3 and IFF? Heard some rumblings about a combined Fighter Bomber Fundamentals course replacing both, with an experiment running somewhere. Any first-hand experience or  great insight on the board?

Yes. FBF SGTO #1 is running at CBM this summer.

Until bombers go T-1s/AMF-S only and stop flying T-38s completely.

Just know that in the T-6 you can’t be that close, that’s why I was surprised.  Back in my T-37 days as a stud I remember the IPs occasionally doing ET3 and if I had to guess the range was similar to that of the T-6.

    Yes the T-38 isn’t a T-6. A T-38 can also go past 90* at 500 AGL.

I can't speak for the B-2, but yes... we were very disappointed when leadership rolled over and banned formation landings.  That said, it's dead now and as time marches on, there are fewer and fewer of us that have done it extensively.  It will never return to the Air Force.

When I was a T-38 PIT IP at Randolph, we used to do formation touch and go's with the trainees:  it gave us a lot more evolutions to get proficient at it in a short time.  As mentioned above, the tolerances were such that you couldn't be sloppy on your approach since you knew what was coming.  I tried many times to get form T&G's approved at Beale when I returned there.  Came close once... but alas those are gone like good times in a UPT squadron bar and pilots that know the rules to Crud.

As a side note, it was only in the last 5-6 years that we were forced to limit bank in close trail to 120 deg.  It was unlimited for us and barrel rolls were the standard.  We do other stuff that isn't done at UPT bases... but I don't want to mention it because some dickhead might take it upon themselves to ruin that too.  It took us about 6 years to recover from the effects of Maj Gen Lyon's heavy handedness (he was ACC/DO around 2012).

UPT still does barrel rolls in close trail

JFC this stuff pisses me off. “Boeing underbid” by $1 billion. They knew it and just keep getting away with it because they know they can.

And the egress system? Aces II doesn’t work anymore?

they underbid by a lot more than 1 billion.

     it’s an Aces V

Feel like I’ll catch some shit for this Q but has anyone heard of a C-130 or other heavy airframe ANG/Reserve hire going to ENJJPT or track selecting T-38?

Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

Yes it’s happened in the last decade at SUPT bases.

The guard student was top of the class and there was excess T-38 capacity and the T-6 IPs worked with AETC, NGB, and  the gaining unit.

We got the student a fighter assignment.

No it won’t happen again because there isn’t T-38 capacity.

Doesn't appear to be "rockets", and they know it was Russian...trust me...they know.

Happened during a large missile attack across the country (appeared to be targeting power production and distribution).  The impact site is just west of the Ukrainian border, due north of LVIV.  If it was a rocket then it had to come from Belarus which would open a completely different can of worms...

    So we shouldn’t trust you?
