  1. They outed themselves initially. She knew she was breaking the law releasing the names, but this attack occurred in August of 2011 and does not sound like it has brought her justice.

From what I read the prosecution did not inform her or her attorneys that they had struck a plea with the attackers and she found out from the judge that everything was to be sealed. Maybe this is standard for crimes like this, and yes criminal trials are "the State of X vs criminal" not "victim vs criminal" but still, I would think victim input is important in cases like this. Maybe the prosecution could have avoided this mess had they taken a different approach?

  2. You got off (STS) cheap. I know several dudes that lost 50%. One guy was so bitter at the bitch that he bailed at 19.5 years just so she couldn't get a dime. Gotta be really pissed off to do that one seeing how you're really hurting yourself at the same time. Wow.

I've always heard rumors of people doing this, a flight engineer at my first squadron was threatening to do this but I lost his nerve at right before it was time to get out or be eligible to retire.

I thought 50% to the spouse was pretty much the standard after 10 years of marriage...is this not the case?

  3. Fantastic advice everyone and why this forum absolutely rules. Several of the steps you guys recommended are already underway, the lawyer stuff is great but other things like guns, bank accounts, specificity in all agreements, etc... I would never have thought of. For my kids’ sake I hope we don't have to go through with this but the roots of this were laid a long time ago...I guess time will tell.

    Thanks again.

  4. So it looks like after all this time the old wife is moving out, on top of that I'm about to PCS and she has said for work reasons she ain't coming with me. I searched topics and didn't find anything specific so if this is a repeat please kindly point me in the right direction and I'll delete this.

No doubt someone else on this forum has gone through it...any advice on how to not get completely screwed as a military guy? I honestly don't want it to go that far but at the same time, I am quite tired of her shit. I have two kids that I adore more than anything in the world so I want to make life as easy as I can on them. I would be fully willing to mediate this out like two grown adults but since she is already perusing the yellow pages for the woman lawyer with the bitchiest expression on her face that may not be possible.

I admit I'm looking for help on an internet forum but since I don't want to publicize this yet at work I figure this may be my best place to go for quick advice and what I need to do right away.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. No buy I did see a briefing about a Marine whose buddies paid him $1000 to jump in. Got himself a one way ticket to Landstuhl and third degree burns all over his body.

Heard this story too. I was working with guys from Navy and Army when I was there...they all got briefed the same thing.

  6. If they're going to do this, then it needs to be legit. Don't ######-foot around, swing your dick and tell the real story.

Iceman: Never got over his combat freeze-up where the #2 guy had to save his ass. Recommended for separation after visiting Life Skills. Crawled inside a box of Twinkies and never came out.

    Wow, spot on:

  7. Wouldn't Maverick have been commissioned at the very latest in '82 and long since retired?

    No shit

    I'd still hit it...no wait...I wouldn't. Time is a goddamned mean mother f'er.

  8. Looking forward to some good inputs. Thanks.

Things that should be simple, but huge improvements:

    1. A clock, hourglass, progress bar, etc... to show that DTS is "thinking." As slow as it can be, and as often as it freezes there is no way to tell the difference.

    2. Get rid of the pop-ups. Utterly ridiculous that it runs like that.

    3. Have some sort of pdf, form-flow, etc... that auto-fills your inputs an old fashioned 1351 as you go along so you can see in black and white how DTS is building the voucher on one form.

  9. Souda

I know for a fact I'm not alone in this...Souda has some of the homliest women on the planet. Even the over-the-air porn that comes on at 2100 isnt worth watching.

What you need is one of those Greek beaches where the scandivians go. I've never been but I've heard the name Olympos put out there.

  10. Headed on probable space-A misadventure late this Summer with a lot of leave to burn. Anyone have anything interesting on their bucket list or good ideas? Cool places to see?

I've had decent luck with both BWI and Andrews as a starting point, gets you over to Ramstein. From there its an incredibly easy shuttle to the Frankfurt airport, from that point anywhere in Europe is within reach.

  11. , but did say that making sure what happened last year doesn't happen again was a topic that was on the agenda amongst the 4 Star "leadership". I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I guess we'll find out here in a few weeks.

The AF is really in a bind with this one because nearly everyone I've talked to (incl O6 and above) thinks that last years non-continuation was dead wrong. However if they go back on it this year they acknowledge the validity of the 100 or so guys suing over not-making it to 20. If they don't continue the passed-over guys this year then exactly what you said, what incentive is there for dudes with less than absolutely stellar records to not jump at a tempting airline offer?

"456 O-5s eligible to retire early

By Jeff Schogol - Staff writer

More than 400 lieutenant colonels will be eligible to retire after only two years’ time in grade, under a force management program designed to meet end strength goals."

Just curious if anyone here is going to jump at this early retirement for LtCols. This is another one of those things that I can't understand for the life of me. They are expecting 456 non-rated dudes who are (I assume) elligible to retire at 20 no matter what to take a reduction in benefits to help out Big Blue. I just can't see anyone doing this...

But they could offer this to 15-16 year Majors who may not make it to 20 and see some real savings AND do right by them at the same time.

  13. The AF Recruiting service is an abysmal failure, and recruiters are some of the worst individuals the AF has to offer. Do not EVER take anything they have to say as the final word. I've had three instances in my family this past year where AF recruiters have either given entirely wrong information or not done the most basic aspects of their job.

Lots of good advice on here but I’ll throw my two cents in…way back in the day I was in the same boat with the depth perception ring test, I failed it time and again. Finally I was very lucky that I had a good med-tech explain to me “how” to take the test. If I remember correctly his advice was similar to looking at those “hidden-picture” posters. You have to look through the rings and focus “behind” them…it worked like magic and 15 years later I still can pass the test with no problems. My civilian eye doctor at the time who was a retired AF flight doc said exactly the same thing, very few people actually fail that test…most often they just don’t take the test correctly.

  14. Defense Contractors must see the USAF as a bunch of small town rubes running down the Midway with overalls filled to the brim with $20 bills.

A seven-year, billion dollar investment by the Air Force in a new logistics management system has turned out to be a bust, officials say.

“I am personally appalled at the limited capability the program has produced relative to that amount of investment,” Air Force Comptroller Jamie Morin told the Senate Armed Services readiness and management support subcommittee on Wednesday.

The Air Force is now trying to sort out what can be salvaged from its investment on the Expeditionary Combat Support System and map out a way forward in a new report likely to be delivered to Congress next month.

  15. I guess they're able to overlook some minor indiscretions..this list is current as of 2010:

Feb. 15, 1990: A federal grand jury indicts Barry on three felony counts of lying to a federal grand jury about his cocaine involvement in 1986 and 1988 and on five counts of cocaine possession from the Vista case and incidents in 1988. More drug charges come later

Aug. 10, 1990: Barry is convicted of cocaine possession.

Oct. 26, 1990: A U.S. District judge sentences Barry to six months in prison and orders him to pay $5,000 for the cocaine possession conviction.

Oct. 26, 1991: Barry begins the sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution in Petersburg, Va., after unsuccessful efforts to appeal the judge's decision.

March 21, 2002: U.S. Park Police find traces of marijuana and $5 worth of crack cocaine in Barry's Jaguar while it's stopped in the no-parking zone in Buzzard Point in Southwest about 9 p.m. He is not charged.

Oct. 28, 2005: Barry pleads guilty to misdemeanor tax charges for failing to file local and federal income tax returns for six years, is ordered to undergo drug testing and is released on his own recognizance.

Sept. 10, 2006: Secret Service officers stop Barry, alleging that he ran a red light at 16th and H streets NW. He is charged with driving under the influence, operating a motor vehicle while impaired, driving an unregistered vehicle and misusing temporary tags.

November 2006: Barry tests positive for cocaine and marijuana during a court-ordered drug screening for his tax charge.

March 9, 2006: Barry is sentenced to three years of supervised probation for his tax troubles.

Dec. 16, 2006: U.S. Park Police stop Barry, alleging that he was driving too slowly at 25th Street and Alabama Avenue SE, and cite him for driving on a suspended license.

May 12, 2006: Barry is cited for failure to yield the right of way after he pulls a 1990 Mercedes out of a parking space and into the path of a vehicle in the 1000 block of First Street SE. He passes a blood-alcohol test after officers suspect him of being impaired.

June 13, 2007: Barry is acquitted of charges in his December 2006 arrest. Although arresting officers testify to his slurred speech, Barry's attorney says he simply has "thick-tongued" diction. Barry was driving a friend's Camaro, so he was unaware of registration and tag issues.

July 4, 2009: Barry is arrested and charged with misdemeanor stalking by U.S. Park Police. While in her car, on-again-off-again girlfriend Donna Watts-Brighthaupt flags down police in Anacostia Park and tells them that Barry, in another vehicle, is "bothering her."

Feb. 16: Special counsel Robert S. Bennett files a report with the D.C. Council, concluding that Barry personally benefited from a contract he obtained for his former girlfriend.

Feb. 23: Barry apologizes for exercising poor judgment in awarding the contract to Watts-Brighthaupt.

March 2: D.C. Council censures Barry, strips him of his committee chairmanship and refers allegations of public corruption to the U.S. attorney's office for possible criminal prosecution.

OK come on, lets not nitpick the poor man.

  16. 7. Is the degree worthless on the outside? Probably... Is it free and outside of TORO or some other online basket weaving degree, it is relatively painless, save the research stuff. Get past that stuff and I would do it again.

When I was pledging Reserve units the Masters program was a decent “leg up” vs the traditional correspondence program. May have just been the units I was talking to and obviously the Reserves isn't necessarily the "outside" but after getting the debrief from the guys who made the selections I was sure glad I went through the ass pain of DQs and term papers.
