  1. . All in all I am pretty happy with this score! Cheers! M2

I can't wait for the day when the Russian Army sends you a note, on official letterhead, that says somthing like "Ok, you officially own more AK and AK deriviates than we do. Will you sell us parts?"

  2. Did they seem to actually care about the content or were they mostly checking on formatting and page count (like the rest of the classes). Thanks for the reply.

I finished mine a couple of years ago, and yes they do care about the content as you are writing. But more so to make sure that you have an early opportunity to make corrections if need be. There was a MX officer in my course who was obviously "phoning it in" during each weeks assignment with the expectation that she would go on an all out writing binge at the end of course. Absolute no go with the instructor, in fact in all my online ACSC she was the only person who got openly berated by the instructor and other classmates during the discussions.

  3. Until one day our fearless adventurer went to the club to have a drink, and while there he met a very fair, yet older damsel who offered to buy him a cocktail. The young pilot was flattered and took the drink. The attractive older woman sat down and flirted with our intrepid pilot who politely resisted. After a few more adult beverages the woman said, if you are not interested in me how would you like to try a sportsman's double? Our young pilot innocently asked, what's that? The woman said that's a threesome with a mother and daughter. The pilot quickly asked for the check and drove the kind, older woman to her apartment... And as they the walked in the door the woman yelled, Mom are you still up?! The end?

Ah hell, you actually made me "LOL"

  4. Dude is so dumb he can't even count to two...single star on those ABUs, 2-star on his "business card." :banghead:

Well, in his defense he was only "recently" promoted. The seamstress probably didn't work as fast as the print shop.

Maybe he was frocked? If not, he's definitely frocked now that he's been caught. Frock YOU!

Ok it took me two times to get this and all I have to say is boooooo. Great pun.

  5. For the past three runs I have been getting a very strange feeling in the back of my calf about halfway between my knee and ankle. The sensation is worse when I have to go up stairs. I have not changed my pace, distance, nor shoes but I did change the course I run. The course I used for the last 6 months had a lot of hills so I could do different intervals at different inclines, but my new course is comparatively planate. That seems to be the only thing I can think of that is different. We run on our school's track for PT, so I should be accustomed to the lack of incline, right? Has anyone ever had experience like this? The sensation in my calf does not really hurt, but it does affect how I walk.

    MH...

I'm about a 25 mile a week runner thus I've had every manner of injury which I thought were inevitable. However about six months ago I switched to one of the "minimalist" shoes that are everywhere now (Vibram Five Fingers, Merrel Trail Glove, Brooks) etc... and although the transition was rough, I have been injury free since. You have to retrain your stride but I am convinced that the natural running motion has been key. I don’t think it’s a 100% cure all for everyone but It might be worth trying out.

I tried several on but decided on the Merrel Trail Glove

  6. Thread revival...

For the DM/Tucson locals; Haveco apparently was a private company located roughly at Kolb/Irvington (just across Kolb from AMARC) that used to have literally a shit ton of airframes, engines, glass and every type of aviation scrap imaginable. For years I've driven by this place and seen 70% of a 707 airframe, the cockpit of a -141, hulks of F-86s, ancient helo parts I didn't recognize and oddly enough about 30 taped up nose pieces of F-4s.

After seeing literally no activity on this roughly 20 acre piece of land for several years, in the past month just about everything (I mean everything) has been cleaned off the lot.

Does anyone have any idea what happened? Although it may be too late, since it is private can you go buy odd and cool crap from them? I googled the company and found a number but got no answer when I tried to call.

here's the link to the Google map link if you're curious, its the triangular piece of land just east of all the -130s. About 95% of the stuff in this picture is now gone.

  7. For those of you who are going through or have gone through the OLMP: It's the end of week 1 and I didn't get to post anything for DQ 1. I was on a good reading pace earlier in the week but work and family eventually sucked all the free time I had. Should I just go ahead and drop the course? Or can I still recover?

Some of the readings are very similar (if not the same) to SOS readings and it just makes me want to throw up...

    Thanks.

    YJ

Don't drop the course...there is no need to. Just do exactly what ThreeHoler said and you'll be fine. The DQs are a pain in the ass at first but by your third or fourth course (maybe sooner) you'll get into a rhythm where you can basically answer the DQs with no reading or research whatsoever. It’s all about key words and phrases and then being able to back them up, or back off your point intelligently if someone has a better argument.

  8. Admittedly, I'm a relative amateur when it comes to CAS but it sure seems to reason that getting rid of the A-10's (in all components) takes a pretty big arrow out of our quiver with regards to the more traditional symmetric wars. The Wikipedia version of the PLA shows 9000 tanks, Iran with a decent reliance on mechanized divisions and NK with about 3000 tanks of all varieties. Now with A-10s record in the asymmetric wars and with the amount of bang provided for its buck...I just don't get it.

  9. He's my squadron's Honorary CC right now (has been for the last 18 months at least)...he's the head coach for the U of A Rugby team, on the board of the DM 50, and the announcer for the U of A football team, among other things. Needless to say well known around Tucson.

Yeah seems like a decent guy, I met Jesse Kelly last campaign and he talked a good game and gave an overall good impression...but I still think I like Sitton.

But having said all of that I would vote for McSalty over the stomach turning Democrat challenger with Rainman's cock.

"These actions do not represent the views of the United States military," Mr Panetta said in a statement apologising to the Afghan people. He promised to review the results of the investigation.

You heard here first boys; the view of the US Military is to NOT stop the enemy passing messages to each other regarding intel, command & control and other information they might find useful to KILL us.

  11. Turbotax is pretty simple and good. If the only thing that has really changed is your wife getting a job then I'd say stick with it. Inputting one more W2 isn't tricky.

True...but my percieved issue is whether to file joint or seperate because we are residents of different states.

  12. Anyone have any good gouge as to when to hand the taxes over to an accountant?

I've been using TurboTax for years now and it seems to be working fine, however this is the first year with the wife having full time employment so the return may be a bit more complicated. Curious if anyone has any better luck with an accountant vs turbotax (or similar)

    Edit: grammar.

  13. I've been waiting all GD day for Rainman's response to this post, not nearly the venom I was hoping for. If you've ever worked with older (no offense Rainman) A-10 guys...the stories of the "M-word" are legendary. Too bad her soon to be announced Democrat challenger is about the slimiest individual I've ever met.

  14. That's no typo, I used to lurk the halls of AFMC HQ and was pretty shocked by it myself but she was picked to be AFMC/CV and I guess a lowly 2 star can't hold that position (sts). She's career acquisitions though and the differences between the acquisitions and operations side of the AF are like night and day.

Of course they are. I've worked with high speed acquisitions officers. Thier jobs are MUCH more important than operators.

Edit: Too bad I can't edit in the bile induced from my own sarcasm.

  15. I know they say it is good to have low cholesterol, but is there a such thing as it being too low? On the front page of my blood work results, it said three of the numbers associated with my cholesterol were low and below the "goal" range. My total is 102.4 with a goal of 133-200, LDL is 44 for a goal of 65-130, HDL is 48 for a goal of >50. Does anyone have any advice on how to get these numbers in the goal range?

Another question about the blood test is my sodium level is low as well. I am at 136 for a reference range of 138-146. I assume they highlight these things to bring attention to them, but I have no idea what any of it means. My doctor's office has not really been helpful in answering questions. I have tried looking some of this up online, but I only find answers dealing with the extremes (ie: hyponatremia for sodium). Thank you!

Not sure if this will help or not but I've just been through the cholesterol panels, as I don't want to take any medication for life the doc said that getting my total cholesterol around 90 (basically impossible) is about the only way to repair damage that has been done from what is essentially whole milk that has been circulating through my veins. I'm sure you could follow my horrible diet to get your numbers up but I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as all the "good" stuff that comes from cholesterol seems to working.

  16. I also have the P-22 and using Winchester/Remington bulk stuff does make it stutter. CCI stuff works like a charm. Several thousand rounds through mine using the zippier ammo and it chugs along just fine.

Not trying to dissuade you from the M&P .22 (I have in 9mm and it's the sh1t!), but the P-22 is a good gun if fed properly.

I'll have to try the CCI, I've pretty much used bulk stuff so that certainly could make a difference. There is also literally thousands of web pages of people making small dremmel and sand paper mods to the the P-22 and having it work like a champ but not sure if I trust myself to do somthing that can't be fixed should I mess it up. I love the idea of the P-22 and even with the issues its improved my shooting dramatically because the amount of rounds I can put through it without having to feel like I'm going broke.

  17. I love my MP 15-22! Great gun to take out on the range, practice fundamentals, and just a great gun to have fun plinking--and what's best--it's cheap as hell to shoot.

IMO, there's no need for a kid to have any special optics on his 22. Teaching the fundamentals just don't require them, besides, he'd be better off getting his son another 22 (pistol) and work on those fundamentals as well.

Speaking of .22 pistols, check out this new guy I just bought! Been eying one of these for the past 2-3 months and finally saw a good price and bought one today--should be delivered next week to my FFL. I'm definitely a S&W fan and this will allow me to work on drills at a much cheaper cost. Plus when I take a new chick out to the range, it will be easier for her shoot than one of my .40's.

Helo (and everyone else) thanks for the posts...of course he found a great deal on the MP-15 at the BX and the kid got all the bells and whistles to go with the new toy. His choice....

About your .22 pistol, I bought the Walther P-22 for the very same reason. I like it but don't love it becuase it is finicky as hell. Lots of bad loads, slide gets stuck and a lot of misfires. Let me know how it shoots becuase I think going to replace the P-22 for a better functioning .22 pistol.

  18. Anyone have any thoughts on the Smith and Wesson MP 15-22?

Having a friendly debate with a co-worker who is dying to get one for his kid with all the bells and whistles, red-dot, every rail accessory imaginable, etc... Of course its his choice to make and maybe I'm overly traditional but my take is that kids should learn to shoot with a quality rifle, wood furniture and iron sights. I loved my Ruger 10-22 when I got it and it still holds a place of prominence in my own personal collection because it is the gun on which I learned to shoot.

His take is that all weapons are evolving to pistol grips, modern sights and Picatinny rails so its better for the kid to learn on the starter version of what he may be shooting in the future...

    Any thoughts?

  19. I sure hope any other federal agencies tasked with this do a better job. I can't say I'm that familiar with the process...is the Air Force the only service that has this job? I know the other services do funerals and such, but do they also have a large processing facility similar to Dover? Maybe that's what he meant by "There's not another federal agency in this town"...they are the only federal agency that does it.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of institutions that understand you don't throw the remains of soldiers in the dump. I could introduce him to a few...the VFW is only a few blocks from my house.

I remember from my field training days at our “intro to Dover” brief that we were told that the Port Mortuary was the only one in the CONUS that handles all DOD service members who have died overseas. So all of the nations war dead are processed through Dover regardless of service.

    Here’s the Wikipedia article:
