  1. I may know why that FCIF dropped..... So there I was, walking into caddy shack to fly my daily suckfest sortie out of the Deid. Looked at my flight orders and saw I had one Col Patrick Rhatigan flying with me on that fine day. Didn't know the dude, so whatever. Everything was going fine until he noticed I was wearing my Alma Mater's ball cap during my preflight. He asked me if I was going to take it off before we departed. Getting the hint, I said yessir. He then asked me "if you didn't take off your cap, how would you quick don your oxygen?" I thought to myself "The same way I don it every time I test it during the preflight..." Fast forward a a few minutes, and then he asked me if I was going to unroll my flight suit sleeves. Because "what if we caught on fire and your arms got burned?" I figured if we were on fire, and my arms were at risk, we had much bigger problems. Don't remember much of the sortie, probably because no one did much talking, as we didn't want the Colonel to chime in. After we landed, I was on my way into MX debrief, and for some reason he followed along. Once we entered the outer door, he asked me why I didn't call the area to attention. I wish I remember how I responded. I probably just stared back at him with a confused look on my face. The next day....... So there I was, walking into caddy shack to fly my daily suckfest sortie out of the Deid. As I was scrolling through my seemingly endless FCIFs, I noticed one labeled "Approved Headgear." From Col Rat basically stating that ball caps were not authorized, and then went on to list all of the headgear that IS authorized. That FCIF was because of me. I was so proud of it.
  2. That’s a very helpful link! Thanks!!
  3. Thank you. I have already requested my records, and I know of a guy who works for the VFW who will comb through them. I’ll have to find out if he fills out the paperwork on my behalf. I’m 8 months out, so I’m getting started now. As far as a physical is concerned, should I schedule one with my wing, or should I do it with my civilian doc and have him send over his findings to my wing?
  4. Hello all, I’m set to retire next year and I was curious about disability claims, and how to properly document any ailments. Is there such a thing as a retirement physical? Is it different from my annual PHA? Hopefully I can get a more in depth physical so I can get my health issues on paper. If this is a thing, how far ahead of my retirement date should I schedule said physical? If it makes any difference, I am in the reserves. thanks for your input!
  5. Long story short, I incurred another 4 year commitment because I failed to transfer my GI-Bill benefits in time. I would like to retire ASAP, and I was wondering if anyone has had luck with any kind of waiver to avoid the additional commitment? Is there a precedent for such a thing?
  6. Has anyone had any luck procuring some sort of waiver to transfer GIB without staying in for another 4 years? I desperately want to retire.....
  7. I think I was able to initiate the transfer before that rule went into effect. its currently showing 36 months to be transferred to my kids. Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll continue my search for a points/no pay job out there. That GI-Bill is simply to valuable to pass up.
  8. Hey what’s a CAP-RAP? Does that have something to do with the Civil Air Patrol?
  9. This makes me a sad panda. I really don’t see myself staying in another 3 years. I definitely screwed the pooch on the GI Bill xfer.
  10. So I have my 20 year letter in hand, but severely procrastinated on transferring my GI Bill benefits to my kids before I had to incur a 4 year commitment in order to do so. I would have a hard time leaving that money on the table by retiring, but I am SO ready to leave the AF in my rear view mirror. I recently talked with a guy (USMC) who said that he transferred to the IRR after 20 years of service, and did correspondence courses for points. Has anybody heard of such a thing in the Air Force? Responses are appreciated. Feel free to PM me. Cheers folks!
  11. Dumb question, (because those are the only kind of questions I ask these days) but do any of these "agreements" prevent retirements?
  12. Sorry this is so late, but I did end up getting selected for O-4. (Thank goodness) With my furlough notice in hand, now I’m wondering if O-5 is in the cards! 🤣🤣
  13. Ok, so for a continuance, does that mean I’ll end up retiring as a career O3? No more O4 looks?
  14. I wanna say they wanted to see a recent AFCM. But this is all speculation. I learned this after I called for my “post board counseling.” I had asked if anything jumped off the paper as reasons to why I got passed over, and the lady at ARPC said it’s was lack of medal and that referral. She wasn’t on the board, so she couldn’t say for sure.
  15. Oh really? Did I read the code wrong? Are you sure it’s 20 years of commissioned service??
  16. I may have found the answer. Not the answer I was hoping for. ————————— “10 U.S. Code § 631, § 632: O2s, O3s, and O4s (other than Navy and Marine Corps Limited Duty Officers) who have twice failed for promotion shall be discharged. If eligible for retirement, that officer is retired. If retirement eligibility is within 2 years, that officer is retained until eligible and then retired. Retirement or discharge in this manner is considered to be involuntary. 10 U.S. Code § 14504, § 14505, § 14506: Reserve O2s, O3s, and O4s who twice fail selection for promotion shall be discharged. 10 U.S. Code § 14513: Reserve O2s, O3s, and O4s who are removed from active status for failure of selection for promotion are transferred to inactive status if Service Secretaries determine that the officer has skills required for mobilization needs or to the Retired Reserve if the officer qualifies and does not request not to be transferred. Otherwise, the officer is discharged” ————————-
  17. Hi folks, I was planning on retiring in January, but with the current state of affairs, it seems that would be an ill advised move. However, I am in a pickle. I am an AFRES O3 with 19.5 years of service. (8 yrs enlisted) I was passed over for O4 last year because of a lack of recent award, as well as a referral OPR from 2015 for a failed FTF. The career development section in my wing failed to inform me of when the 2020 O4 board was being held, and I again failed to obtain a recent award. (totally my fault, I was very blinded by my upcoming retirement) Now I am afraid that I will be passed over again. My question is this: What are the repercussions for being passed over twice? What AFI can I look in to spell it out for me? I remember seeing something regarding retirement sanctuary, but I can't recall the details. Will I need to pursue a waiver of some kind to stay in? Will I get a 3rd look at O4? Thanks for everyone's help. I hope you are all staying healthy and optimistic during these tough times.
  18. Hey guys, anyone have the contact info for the 167th AS Chief Pilot? Cheers Velo
  19. Does anyone have a good phone number to call to get the final word for all of this? I was able to find out how much I have to transfer, but I’d like to know once and for all if I’d be able to retire before the 4 add’l years would be served. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Well that sucks. Totally my bad for not doing this earlier. I only have about 12 months of MGIB of benefits to transfer. But that definitely could make a difference!
  21. I don’t suppose it matters if I’m a reservist? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I'm in the process of talking with the ALO folks. Thank you though!
  23. Hey all - I've been on hold with the total force call center for 45 minutes now, so I figure it wouldn't hurt to reach out to you fine folks and see if someone here has the answer I need. I understand that if I were to transfer my benefits today, I would have to commit to another 4 years of service. I am eligible to retire in January 2021, and I was wondering if they'd make me extend my service beyond that date?
