  2. I was taught at OTS to salute if your outside, wait for the music to be over (if it's already started) if you're inside and do not rush to change your location either way. Also, I was an Army Brat for 16 years (lived on Army Bases for most of those years) and I have never seen someone get out of the car to salute. Honestly you'd be taking your life in your own hands as you're risking getting squished by some dependapotamus in her minivan texting the rest of the herd about 50 Shades of Gray being 50% off at the PX when she should be focused on driving and maybe noticing all those other cars are stopped for some reason.

  4. Nothing new on mine, Catbox. It's been "FM hold batch processing" since 21 January. I check mine about every 10 minutes when I'm at work, because I am unstable. Perhaps they're waiting to assign you a retirement number...

  8. The guy that took over as 41 AS/CC is one of the best leaders (career Herk driver/Patch) I've ever worked with. They're in great hands.

  10. Many here on this forum have a false sense of the quality of officers we promote in the top 20% (school selects to Maj), and BPZ to Lt Col. Many argue that only party planners, burger flippers, box checkers and execs get the good paper and strats. The top 20% records I've seen, including hundreds at the last Lt Col MLR, had instructor, evaluator, combat, weapons school, command and DG at FTUs. The exec only, careerist officer is easily spotted and appropriately dinged. Strats are not the most important discriminator. Most of the criticism rattled off here at BODN describes the great pilot with golden hands, long mustache, high combat time and natural leadership abilities that gets screwed by the shoe commander who values early PME completion and bake sales over skill in the jet or ability to lead a crew. Bullshit. The harsh reality is that there are a large number of ing squared away operators who dominate the top 20% and knock out mediocre, non-conformist crybabies who rationalize their low strats and weak push lines with an overinflated sense of how good they think they are in the jet or with a crew or how effective they think they will be in the joint, staff or senior leader world. From what I've seen at boards, MLRs and thousands of records and PRFs, the bottom 15-20% are the no shit bottom. Nothing personal, I'm sure there are good people below the line, but you have to draw the line somewhere and we tend to get it right much more often than we get it wrong. We value job performance and we document it in the formal record. The biggest challenge is telling the top 20-50% crowd they aren't as talented as they think they are. Do your ing PME, in time and stop encouraging young officers to blow it off because you think it is stupid. We should promote by AFSC. LAF grouping doesn't meet our specific leadership requirements. No need I compare a comptroller squadron commander to a flight lead. If we do this, more good pilots will be passed over and will miss the school cutoff, but we will promote experience we need. Fire away, I appreciate the no holds barred honesty and flight level perspective. Edit for gramer

  11. I sensed a great disturbance in the (air) Force. As if a million shoe clerks cried out at once... And then were silenced.

  13. I hope that everyone who is criticizing this soldier over the internet is willing to criticize and correct the line of people that wait by their office door before leaving for the day instead of walking outside and rendering a salute. This is such a common thing but people usually don't take pictures of it. I never understood why people are not willing to walk outside and salute for 20 or 30 seconds Many Army bases actually require the soldier get out of their car and salute. I have never been to an Air Force base with that rule but I might be wrong to say the Air Force doesn't follow this practice. I think it is lazy and immature to not follow the rules of your base but I do not think the soldier disrespected the flag by not getting out of her car and saluting. To say so would mean that every time I just pullover (like everyone else does at my base) instead of getting out of my car and saluting, I would also be disrespecting the flag. I am not defending the laziness and ignorance of this soldier, I just think that some of the responses by the public are a little extreme. People have equated her not saluting to treason. Some people are saying that they should give her an article 15 or kick her out of the military. That seems a little extreme. Fix her behavior by giving her the privilege to raise the flag on base for a few months or allowing her to solemnly present a flag to the loved one of a veteran at a military funeral. If she can present that flag to a crying widow and not be willing to take the 30 seconds to salute the flag each day, she is a lost cause.
