  1. I called the VFA assignments guy at the Navy Personnel Center about 6-9 weeks ago asking about interservice transfers (since my year group is getting RIFed). He told me the Navy is not accepting interservice transfer applications for any pilots in FY 11 or FY 12. They are also trying to force shape pilots out of active duty. He told me the best bet would be to apply at the beginning of FY 12 for an IST so that the transfer could occur at the beginning of FY 13. This included all their flying communities. If you do proceed with an IST and are approved, you apparently meet a "board" that determines what aircraft you will go to based on your previous experience.

  2. Copy, I've been a flyer for a few years and in flying squadrons, I understand what you're saying because I see it daily. However, SMSgt LRS guy who's at the Senior NCO Academy doesn't know this gem of information, and that's not how non-rated Officers act. So by saying off the bat Lt's don't salute each other to a bunch of non-wing wearing SNCO's you're going to get weird looks and "mentored" about how it's not right to do so. Technique Only So, "only a few years" applies to Lt's?" Sure.

  3. Rest in Peace, dear friend. I will always remember the many missions we flew together after your return from Hanoi. What a fine person you were. And all the great "packed lunches" your sweet "Sal" made for us to share in the cockpit. Sir, you taught me so much about life and family and priorities; I could never have repaid you. If ever there was a Colonel who led by example, it was you. It's been almost 33 years since we shared a cockpit, and still I miss you! After takeoff checklist complete.

  4. Seriously? You mean the "asshat" that was strung out because of asshat #1 trying to drag him off on the scoreboard, overcooking it because he was late for the TOT?

  5. Hey thanks! Your reply was super helpful. Now I know to salute the 1LTs for the first week until I pin on, and more importantly my shit is graded! Can anyone who went in the last few monthes confirm how many tests or assignments there are that are graded(and that there is a DG program) with more then "your shit is graded"? ######....thought this was an easy non controversial question.
