For all you military pilots out there. I was just wondering how common it is for you to have to deal with losing a friend to an airplane crash etc. I just lost a friend in a T-6 Texan crash and I am having a hard time with it. It has really made me start to question flying fighters in the Air Force. How often do you have to deal with aviation related death in the Air Force as a pilot? I just found out so I am thinking really off the wall thoughts but maybe I'll be over this soon. Thanks

I asked C-21 Pilot about the mission and lifestyle of a C-21 pilot and this is the informative response I got...Enjoy! ------------------------------------------------ The C-21 is essentially a Learjet 35A. There are some minor differences, and they are all up in the cockpit. The plane was bought from Gates Lear back in 1984 (all models are 1984). The C-21 has a few mods that stock Lear 35s won't have. They all have a Universal MFD that displays nav data, TCAS targets, wx radar and terrain/TAWS data. They also have an EVSI that displays TCAS climb information as well as TCAS traffic. The C-21 has a Universal UNS-1B flight management system that, in my opinion, is muc…

Seems like the majority of folks dog the E-3, I was wondering if anyone has any good stuff to say about being an AWACS pilot. I read the "flying around in circles" and "stay out of the iron triangle" arguments from old posts, but it seems like it wouldn't be too bad being in ACC if you can't get into fighters/bombers. Do AWACS folks go to Red Flag and weapons school? Any talk of upgrading the jet? I'm from Oklahoma and wouldn't mind being able to stick around the area for some of my career, so any input would be well appreciated...

I have heard that some planes get very hot inside and I'm just wondering how hot do they get? Are they hot when you get in them but cool of once you get in the air or what? The reason I ask is I don't handle extreme heat but I can handle Extreme cold, I love the snow. Also when you are in somewhere like iraq what are the living areas like? Tents?

I'm a T-37 FAIP who was on my way to the F-16 and recently lost my single seat medical qual by a BS medical diagnosis(Wheat Allergy). I am now limited to a crew type aircraft(F-15E doesn't Count). I'm having a hard time choosing between the bomber & Airlift lifestyle. I've always loved the B-1 but after being in Del Rio for 5 years, I'm craving a good location. Question- In your opinion-Is flying the B-1 in a moderate location, exciting and challenging enough to overcome the Lifestyle of Charleston, seeing the world, and logging more flight time? I'm trying to weigh all variables, lifestyle, location, excite :o ment, comraderie, etc. What are your thoughts?

I've recently taken an interest in designing patches and had some great ideas for painting the leather visor cover. I know patches are not terribly sanctioned... in regard to not being brutally obvious or sexual. However I have seen SOME leather visor covers painted, how is this looked on? I know the helmet itself "isnt" painted unless you are a T-bird. I could be all wet but does anyone have an AFI or anything on this?

I was supposed to start Pensacola (water survival)on Monday 4 Oct. Found out last week that it was canceled and found out today it won't reopen till Dec. I'm working on a waiver to continue flying with my unit. Is this stopping anyone else from flying and if so how are you going to get around it? [ 30. Ladies and Gentlemen, First, I would like to say thanks to all ardent supporters of Baseops.Net, and to all the loyal customers of this site. I do appreciate everyone's concerns regarding the "AMC BAN" on Baseops, however, it does seem that several people listed in the email were inundated with phone calls, emails, complaints, and possibly death threats. Since then, the email and message threads have been removed. I do hope that the recipients of those emails, etc., understand that they were the result of our overzealous supporters fearing that Baseops.Net was being banned. This was not meant to be an attack on those individuals. Baseops.Net is however, trying to …

Here's another question about FT. I was listening to the awards that were given out to people in my Det and got to wondering about what awards there are. I know I heard physical fitness, academic, and marksmanship. Does anyone know where I can find a list of the possible awards and the criteria for earning them?

Looking at the ****pit photo of the T-38C. Underneath center MFD and beyond the stick is something that says PUSH. Anyone know a link to point me to the layout of this ****pit? Or if you know off hand what that is for. I have the photo as my desktop background and it just stares back at me PUSH! Pretty annoying now not knowing what it does. Data cartridge? DVD Player? Cup holder? HA. Thanks

Anyone else know they're in 06-01 at Laughlin? Report dates? I'm there Sept 27. (Doesn't this make you other XL studs feel weird that we're starting 06?)

Deployed tactics guy. We're going to start using PPR's for certain airfields in theatre. The following question arose: do PPR's have an effective time? (i.e. +/- 1hr ETA). Looked through GP and other FLIP but can't find guidance. Back home, if ETA ever changed, we'd just give OPS at arrival station a heads up over the phone but keep the same PPR. This always worked so I never questioned it. Anyway, now it's an issue.

Hey wxpunk, Actually the story about "Kerry the Pizza Snatcher" is not bullshit at all, it comes straight out of the new book "Wreckless Disregard" it was written by a former light Colonel, Buzz Patterson, who flew 141's and later carried the nuclear football during the Clinton administration. He wrote another book called "Dereliction of Duty" I highly recommend these books to any military member who may consider voting Democrat and consequently voting themselves out of a job, or anybody who is looking to get really pissed off for that matter.

I'm confident that in approximately 15 minutes this article will be in the inboxes of every resident of the free world and maybe even few people in France. Chris Thomas, Air Force Pilot: I would like to add my two cents about my John Kerry experience. During my career as an Air Force pilot, I spent two years flying a small twin engine prop plane around the Pacific from my base in Okinawa, Japan. On one trip we had to fly Senator Kerry, his congressional aide, and a Navy Captain (Vietnam, A-4 fighter pilot)who was also in Kerry's party to various locations in Vietnam and Cambodia as part of the MIA/POW talks. When I met him, he was wearing a sh…

Ok, so I graduate/commission in Dec of this year. I got my pilot slot through ROTC this year and will be heading that way after the first of next year. My concern is, is that I have heard some bad things about the Air Force and not allowing bikes. Granted, most of the things I have heard are from an officer that hates bikes. So, what has everybody seen on AD out there? I know that UPT will be very busy but is there at least some time to ride? Many thanks in advance ;)

Hello to everyone from the sandbox. Just wanted to give a quick hello and apologize for my absence in posting lately. I don't know how this board can survive without my one sided and completely irrelevant and unhelpful posts! BTW - Did that Check Six dipshit ever get the message and stop posting? HD [ 21. I'm new to the board. I plan on sticking around a lurking for a while and maybe posting a few things. From what I've seen so far this site has tons of useful info. To start things off I thought I'd try to get some of your advice on a few things. First of all, I'm 23 with a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Texas A&M (3.5 GPA) and currently employed by Boeing in Long Beach, CA. I've always loved planes and I thought when I was hired to work on the C-17 it was my dream job and I was set for at least a couple of years. Well, after a year I think the pilot bug bit hard enough for me to respond. It's always been in the back of my mind but the combination of time…

Hey y'all. I have a situation. I am in pilot training for a Guard heavy unit...and track select pretty soon. I have the opportunity to switch over to fighters, one unit is in the same state, another is in another state. I believe I would get hired by those two units to fly fighters, however, I have to have my unit agree to release me. How likely is this, and really, am I just going to end my career, and get released if I even try? I dont wanna piss anyone off too badly. Thanks alot for any insights. [ 02. Well here I am a month from starting my journey to becoming a pilot. I'll be starting college and AFROTC. Of course, I've been pretty lazy this summer and I told myself I need to start exercising to get back into shape. I'm actually pretty busy (work 7 days a week, almost all day... family business) but I plan on working out in the morning. Just curious what all of you do to stay in shape? Just run and sit-ups and push ups? Or have you found it beneficial enough to get a membership at a local gym? I figured just running, sit ups, and push ups would do it but I'm no expert in exercising. I use to lift but I'm not in good 'ol high school anymore where it was free. …
