I am a junior in High-School, and I am definately want to become an officer in the Air Force(pilot). MY dad is a 73' USAFA grad and my brother just commisioned out of ROTC and is heading to ENJJPT. Based on both my fathers and brothers experiences, I am leaning towards ROTC. I am confident that I have a good shot at both ROTC scholarship and Academy acceptance (4.0, sports, eagle scout). I just want to hear some pro's and con's about the Academy and ROTC. Thanks.

All, I'm looking for information concerning whether anyone has still commissioned after their det/cc has recommended that they be disenrolled. If they didn't commission, did they serve enlisted (say if they were Prior-E) or did they have to payback their scholarship? Rumors, examples, or anything is helpful.

My buddy graduated from the Navel Academy and is getting married in a month. I am in the Air Force and will be the only one from the AF in the saber guard; the rest will be navy dudes and marines. He wants everyone to wear their service dress equivalent and not mess dress. I was wondering what uniform I should wear be it mess dress or service dress. Can you wear your saber in service dress? Also, what customs do you follow when the saber guard will be a mixed service detail? Can I even participate? What are the additional items required for the uniform when doing this ceremony? Last, can I buy this all of this stuff on base or do I need to order it from the web? …

There is this rumor going around in ROTC land that once your AD, the only thing that is looked at from your ROTC days, as far as OPRs and stuff like that, is whether or not you graduated as a DG from your detachment. Is there any truth to this, or is it a fairy tale?

I had a question about parking tickets. I just got parking ticket #4 in 1 1/2 years in the program. I also had a speeding ticket a couple weeks ago. Do you think I have excessive civil involvements? Am I in any danger of losing my enrollment allocation?

Well to make a long story short (without all the circumstantial information) I had 2 MIP's (Minor In Possession/Minor In Consumption, same offense and legal actions for both), one when I was 16 and another when I was 17 about 6 months apart from each other. The ironic thing about all this is that I really dont like alcohol, I actually despise it for many reasons, but at the same time it is fun sometimes with friends and whatnot, that cannot be denied. The charges were dropped because I agreed to attend a 10 week drug awareness program, as well as because I was not 18 I could not even be formally charged. Atleast in the state of washington. I know that the police report…

When and how many times is the PFT given to cadets? Once a year or something? And if you need to improve on the running will ROTC help that to get the 6:36 mile or will it just keep you in shape? Thanks

Alright...just to lighten the mood around the approaching valentines day... just to ease the tension till Categorization results are out ;) What do you think about dating between GMC and POC? I realize that AFROTCI "highly discourages" it, but we are in college after all, and as previously mentioned...we're not officers yet. If you keep it professional within the detachment, is it alright? Or is it out of the question always? Opinions anyone? AFROTCI K-3-III

Hey guys, I heard that it's good to have some jodies to sing at FTU. Anybody have any? Here's one I like: My girl's a vegtable, She lives in a hospital. Refrain: I'd do most anything, To keep that girl alive, yeah! She's got her own T.V., They call it an EKG! Refrain She's got no arms or legs, All she's got are wooden pegs! Refrain One day I'll play a joke, Pull the plug and watch her choke! Refrain Post what you have, this should be fun!!

I am a freshman at Riddle trying to decide how to get involved (there are so many clubs and stuff here). While I want to join clubs that are fun, and orginizations that are beneficial, I am also choosing how to spend my time based on what will rank me the highest among other cadets so I can secure a pilot candidate slot. I am particularly interested in joining Arnold Air Society. Is being a member of the AAS a good way to rank higher? I don't mean rank as in C/4C, I mean rank as in how I compare to other AS 100s. What would you say the formula for a competitive pilot slot candidate is, as far as clubs involved in? I don't think I will have a problem with the oth…

I have just joined ROTC on the two year program. I basically have less than a year before I apply to UPT... So the big question is...what spefic things should I concentrate on doing to "impress" my commander (I know how important that commander's rating is) All former and current ROTC cadets, please advise!!! Thank you.

Is there any disadvantage to using the crosstown program to attend ROTC offered at a school you're not attending? Would there be any pressure on the commander to boost the kids going to their "home" school over someone attending elsewhere? And also, does the Air Force take into account the quality/difficulty of the institutions where ROTC is offered? For instance, a cadet ranking in the middle of his detachment at MIT is likely to be a better candidate for a pilot slot than a cadet in the top of his detachment at a less selective school. Is this factor weighed at all? [ 25 September 2003, 20:26: Message edited by: WSteig ]
