  1. Nice, I've got family in Savannah, and could easily hop up there... But probably need to contact them first.
  2. I've always leaned toward President hopefuls that either (1) have a distinct and honorable military background, or (2) prove that they will do whatever is in the best interest of our troops...
  3. At least we're on my favorite page now... But I kind of like the idea of giving everyone who does well enough in T-6's (and wants fast flyers) a shot in the T-38... It should eventually become evident who's cut out for it and who's not...
  4. Wow, you really are living the dream. And nice description of the pros and cons of both... So basically, fun flying: Viper easy choice; War fighting: F-15 easy choice?
  5. Oh, I'm not gonna get into the career politicians argument... But your post reminded me of the Louis Griffin 9/11 joke...
  6. Thanks for the tips, guys. I'm not so worried about not being strong in other areas. I am confident in my other attributes, and even my flying skills, I just don't want it to come off as "hey, take my halfway put together packet and that's all you get". I'm trying to get my Class I done, I'm just waiting on my 3 years of medical history from my old doctor (no, I don't have 3 years of appointments memorized).... I'm going to reach out to a bunch of people over the next couple of days to try to give me recommendations, and I'll write myself a good recommendation and see if they'll concur with what I've written and sign it (great advice, mb). If I'm lucky enough to get an interview, I'll definitely be more at ease. I love interviews, because I've never really bought into the whole "my scores determine who I am". Again, not trying to make excuses for doing poor, I would just take walking into an interview room over simply submitting scores any day. Good thing ANG/AFRC at least requires a face-to-face interview if you pass the initial screening (scores/resume/etc).
  7. STUPID QUESTION ALERT: I just wanted to some of the guys who have been interviewed/hired for the ANG/AFRC... Have you ever submitted an application package that was less than ideal? I have had my eyes on a squadron that isn't necessarily close to where I work (about a day's drive), but it is in my home state and just seems like a good fit for me. Here are the following issues: 1. My PCSM is below the minimum for my flight hours (34). When I contacted them about it, they told me they look at the 201+ column, and to submit my application anyways. 2. I only have a class II, and not a class I medical (yet). I have amazing eyesight, and have been told that the class I thing isn't a huge consideration as long as the reason for not having the class I is the fact that you aren't physically qualified. 3. I probably will only have 1 (maybe 2) letters of recommendation. Although strong, the unit allows a maximum of 3, and I don't want them to think I'm not taking them seriously if I don't max everything out. I don't want to ruin any future chances with the squadron if they see my package and think, "Man, this guy just submitted garbage to us", especially since they're a squadron I could see myself applying to multiple times.
  8. Wait, so you're telling me that the media may be right about the huge shortage of AF fighter pilots? Something about that last sentence just makes me uneasy... "the media may be right"... Yep, that just doesn't sound right. I'm thinking that class must be just an outlier.
  9. This is why I hate politics; I can never figure out where the bad decisions start/stop and who started what (plus, politicians just give me that bad gut feeling). As a broad brush approach, though, I think the "it's pretty easy to figure out which party benefits the military more" comment above was spot on...
  10. Wow guys, thanks for all of the help! Sorry I abandoned this thread like 10 minutes after writing it... I got REALLY BUSY... But as always, you guys have given me some solid advice and taken a load off.
  11. I'm currently putting together my packet for the applications, and I had a couple questions about the letters of recommendation: 1. I know (very well) a retired Vice Admiral F/A-18 pilot, and regularly interact with F/A-18 pilots (I know, I'm very lucky). I also know a retired F-16 ANG guy pretty well, and a retired C-130 pilot (AD and reserves I believe). So I'm most likely going to choose the Vice Admiral and the F-16 pilot since I'm rushing fighter squadrons, but who do I choose as my third? Would a squadron be more interested in the F/A-18 pilots I work around, or a C-130 guy that I know through my dad, and happens to be a really good guy that helped talk me into going ANG/AFRC rather than AD? 2. If there are a maximum of 3 letters of recommendation for an applicant. Would it be more beneficial to have all 3 as fighter pilots, or does that give off the sense that I'm saying, "look who my dad knows"? I know the pilots pretty well, but I can honestly say I would have never known them if my dad wasn't a pilot.
  12. I would but the option for adding text is not available. I don't want to break any rules, but it seems like they are also giving you the table before you take the test... Is that an accurate description or can we not talk about that stuff?
  13. http://access.afpc.af.mil/pcsmdmz/Form T.HTML The site above gives information about the new AFOQT Form T. I just have 2 issues: (1) It says that the Pilot score no longer incorporates Airthmetic Reasoning (AR) (2) It says that the Instrument Comprehension section is only 5 minutes long Can anyone confirm these two changes are actually true? Or is it just repeated typos?
  14. What about the 125th in JAX? I never saw any job announcements go out.
