Does anyone have info on the cultural immersion PDT?

So, I just got an email from our Det CC saying that a SERE CBT is coming out in the next couple of weeks or so. Anybody else get this? I've been through actual SERE school and I just can't see how effective a CBT is going to be for it (are they effective for anything??). Is this the mandatory SERE training the CSAF spoke of recently?

I understand how the OM works for categorization, but does the commander directly recommend an AFSC (other than through UCR)? For rated and nonrated? I know that cadets compete for pilot slots nationally. Is this true for non-rated AFSCs as well? Or are commanders encouraged to fill hard to fill jobs? For instance, two cadets with equal GPA, one a history major and the other an electrical engineer. Would the commander have any reason to recommend (or give a lower UCR to) the engineer for an engineering job rather than a pilot slot because EE is a critical shortage?

My room mate was drinking and got written up. Because it was my room as well, as well as the fact I was there, I got written up too. What can happen because of this?

Hello, This is my first post, but I have been reading up on this forum for a few weeks. I am a Junior in High School and have almost completed my PPL. I hope to go to a state school and pursue my ratings, but I have wanted to serve my country too. I've been looking at all of my options for a pilot slot in the military and have narrowed it down to to the USAF, Navy, and Coast Guard. I want to keep my options open and not miss out on opportunities that will come at me in the next few years. I always thought the AF was for me, but I am unsure if ROTC will be, and the academy is probably out because I'm not an all A student. I was in Civil Air Patrol for half of a year and ne…

Hi everyone, This semester I'm in charge of fundraising...and our cadet fund is running rather low, so I'm looking to bring in as much money as possible. I was hoping some members here might have held the same position at one point or have at least been involved in fundraising in the past, and could give me some ideas on what has worked well and what hasn't. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Nathan

I know this is probably a question for the cadre, but I figured I'd ask here too. I'm considering traveling abroad for 2 consecutive semesters somewhere in the middle east. It might not even be considered studying abroad for both semesters, maybe just a sabbatical from school. Edit: I would be taking classes most of the time. NOT a vacation. Would I just add on another year of ROTC at my expense? Anyone have experience with this? Thanks [ 29. November 2006, 19:39: Message edited by: Tertle ]

I was wondering if the UPT selection board looks down on you if you transfer schools after your first year in college? I went to ERAU were i was on honor roll all year, but didnt like the flight program. Im now down at asu east still doing a flight major. Will this look bad on my application? And does the guard unit like it if you have a masters? Thanks "Aviators are optimistic by nature" George

I'm just curious how many of you guys commissioning here shortly are prior service, and what you thought of ROTC. I've done 5 years Active Army and am going back into AFROTC (I did one year, way back when). When I hear of kids saying ROTC was basically gay or worthless I cannot help but be stoked to go back! hah I say kids, I'm only 23 but two years deployed kind of changes you perspectives.

Hey guys! I have some questions and be prepared because some are probably dumb. Once you graduate from college with a bachelor degree (and lets say you participated in AFROTC) where do you go from there in the process of becomming an AF pilot? I have an idea but not exactly sure so I just wanted to clear some things up. Also how do you get from there to getting into UPT?

Seeing how fast the last new cadet thread got off topic, I thought I would post a general request for any sage advice or comments some of you experienced types could offer, I've been following this forum for quite a while and have always appreciated the perspective of those who have BTDT. I'd really appreciate some perspective on ROTC program and what is and isn't really applicable to life in the real AF. I'm interested in competing for a pilot slot if all the medical requirements line up but definately understand the real chance of it not working out so any comments on interesting nonrated career fields I should look into would be welcome. If you have anything to offer t…

Hello, I'm currently 17 years old so please bear with me if what I'm saying sounds rediculous. I'm a senior in high school and applied to 2 colleges. The first one I applied to was the one I really really really wanted to go to and got accepted and wanted to go to their AFROTC program. I got in and the Air Force gave me a FULL TUITION type 1 scholorship so I have until May to accept it. I was thrilled... Then today I recieved an acceptance letter from SUNY Maritime College. They have NROTC available there unlike the other college I was accepted to. Now I know I want that regimented type of lifestyle and that experience. I DO want to try to become a pilot since …

Hey everyone, This is my first post on this site and it seems awsome from the little time I've been around. Currently I go to a CC in Minnesota and am looking to upgrade. I've alot of reading about ots and things of that sort and I think I've decided that ROTC is the route for me, I think... Anyways, right now I'm taking mostly business related classes because when I registered I wasn't very serious about joining the AF. Now I'm really considering joining somehow and like I said I think ROTC is a good path. Now I realize business isn't really the number one sought after degree by the AF lol, so I am looking at schools to transfer to and get into a more appropriate…

Hi All, What does everyone know about the delayed entry program and categorization? Is it possible to categorized and then delay your entry for graduate school? Or must you re-categorize for the year you will be entering your school i.e. flight school? thanks for any info in advance!!!

for those who went the 2 year POC route and skipped the first 2 years of AFROTC, how hard is it to get adjusted to everything having missed the first 2 years? and is it that much harder to do well in FT because of everything you missed out on? im just saying this because this is the path I plan to take.

I'll be starting AFROTC fall of next year (as a sophmore). I was wondering what the chances of getting an airborne slot for the summer while in AFROTC? Are they still doing this?

I'm a college freshman and I'll be starting AFROTC this spring. I don't receive my uniform 'til January (when school starts), so I was wondering...how many sets of uniforms am I gonna get? Do they issue the shoes/boots as well or do I need to buy them on my own?

So what's the deal with who can commission you? Has to be an ACTIVE duty officer? Or can they be a retired officer? Any branch? If they are retired, should they be in uniform or anything?

Anyone out there (AD/Reserve/ANG) know of bases that have a CATM facility? Not sure if they are called that all over the AF but the shooting range I went to at Field Training at Tyndall was called CATM. The reason I ask is that I would like to see if a Security Forces squadron would be willing to host an M9 familiarization for cadets from our detachment. Are these facilities only located at AETC bases? If so I am SOL, FE Warren, Peterson, and Buckley (all AF Space Command) are the only bases around here. [ 29. Ok this might be a dumb question, but i did some searches and didn't find anything on other threads. At field training, are the awards awarded amongst all the cadets at that specific base during FT...or is it only among the cadets in each detachment? (hope that makes sense)

I know with force shaping that the AF is trying to get rid of cadets in this upcoming graduating class FY06. My question is: is it possible to leave ROTC now without having to pay back the financial aid or is it too late? This was offered to us in the beginning of the Spring Semester this year, and I was wondering if the offer still stood. Any advice would help. Oh, and I am leaving the AF for greener pastures btw.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any more of the special little privledges POC cadets get. I know some but if there's any missing please post: *Wear the boots you want *Wear coroframs (sp?) *Roll the sleeves on BDUs *Prop and wings on blues cover *Wear black shirts with BDUs *Name tag for service dress jacket *ID and stipend if not contracted before *Key to the detachment (at least at ours) Anything else?
