Rudy the Rabbit Posted January 22, 2015 Share Posted January 22, 2015 Anyone have any recent first or second hand experience retiring and then joining the reserves or guard. I heard of one or two people doing this since I first heard of the program advertised around 2007, but wasn't sure if there were any more recent examples. disgruntledemployee Posted January 23, 2015 Share Posted January 23, 2015 I know a guy or two. Here are their stories. 1st, is there a unit that is willing to do this? Many are not. 2nd, for the guy I knew that did AFRC, he was retired and it took a very high level waiver (think Air Staff and up) to get him back in the game. I heard this route is near impossible. 3rd, another route I heard about is that you don't retire, but rather separate, then get hired by ANG (don't know if AFRC works on this one). You continue to accrue points for more retirement, but I think that active duty owns the retirement bill at that point. Units may not want to do this either.
